THE TRUTH ABOUT BACK PAIN AFTER

CAR ACCIDENT

Page 2: The truth about back pain after car accident

Back Pain After A Car Accident While modern cars are much better at absorbing the impact of a

collision than cars from a few decades ago, much of the energy from a car accident is still transferred through the passengers neck, back, and extremities.

Even at low speeds, back pain, back muscle spasms,  or other pains could be instant or they could take time to evolve.  Sometimes you might not notice the pain because you are dazed, you had a head injury, or it was an injury that wasn’t apparent initially.  Many of the causes of back pain related to a car accidents are injuries that could take days to become noticeable.

When another car hits your car, the force is transferred through the car and into your body.  A chiropractor or other health care professional would want to know many pieces of information so that they can narrow down the likely cause of your back pain.

For example, back pain from a car accident could be caused by a herniation of your disc, sprained or strained ligaments and muscles, subluxation (a chiropractic one), broken bones in some cases, and many other reasons.

Should you visit a Chiropractor after a Car Accident?

A chiropractor will perform a proper history, examination, and imaging as necessary to diagnose your back pain after you’ve been in a car accident.Since a car accident is a significant trauma, the chiropractor will likely want to have an X-ray or MRI done if you haven’t had one done already to exclude a fracture.A typical treatment would initially consist of chiropractic adjustments and physiotherapy (massage, ice, muscle stimulation) followed by less frequent adjustments and a rehabilitation program to restore any lost strength and endurance.

Soft tissue injuries like those from car accidents take about 8-12 weeks to fully heal.  Of course, this all depends on the severity and individual case of back pain but hopefully at the end of the path you will feel as though you were never in an accident.

Conclusion

Many states have laws that cover your medical bills if you were in an accident.  Some states cover the bill whether it was your fault or not.

If you have back pain following a car accident and injury you may want to contact a lawyer in your area that will know your local laws.  Laws vary and you may be entitled to compensation for your medical care and associated future costs.
