Pacific Northwest The Pacific Northwest of North America has a lot of snow there. There is mostly weather that ranges to about 0 degrees in the winter to about 70 degrees in the summer. There is a lots of rain also. The Pacific Northwest has lots of vast cedar forests. One of the many Native American tribes that lived there was the Tlingit.

Homes of The Tlingit The Tlingit lived in beautiful rectangular homes. They were decorated with colorful animals like the raven and the eagle. The houses were made of red cedar trees. The houses often had fire pits for warmth and for cooking. The Tlingit had temporary camps to hunt for food in the summer and the Fall.

What the Tlingit Ate The Tlingit ate a lot of different foods. Some of the many different foods they ate were salmon, berries, goat, bear and deer. There main source of food was salmon. They could smoke it dry it and use the bones for tools. They would use the goat, bear and deer skin for clothes also.

The Tlingit’s Clothes The Tlingit wore beautiful clothes made of goat hair, bird feathers and animal pelts. Some of the pelts they used were goat, bear and deer. The Tlingit’s clothes were decorated with ravens and eagles. They also wear cloaks with bears and whales on them.

Totem Poles The Tlingit made very tall totem poles.They would dig holes in the ground to putthem in. 50 strong men are chosen to liftthe pole up. They would celebrate after they put he pole up. Skilled cavers carved thegiant poles. They caved beautiful animals likeravens, eagles, bears, and many more. Totempoles recalled events or legends. Some even tell familyHistory.
