The mass intention for the 8.00am mass and

rosary on Saturday, 5 May will be for all mothers,

past, present and soon to be, as well as all who

care for children as mothers.

The Ascension of our Lord, will be celebrated on

the weekend of Sunday 13 May.

Pentecost Sunday will be celebrated on the

weekend of Sunday 20 May followed by Trinity

Sunday on Sunday 27 May.

The next pre-baptism class for those wanting to

have their children baptised will be held on

Wednesday, 16 May at 5.00pm. Parents are

requested to see Fr John before attending.

Things you should not do at Mass

(but you might be doing anyhow)

Small details that make the difference and unite the

Church

Do not be late. Remember God is waiting for you

to fill you with love, to speak to your ear, to tell

you what you need to hear, to forgive you. He got

you a special place in his table. Do not keep him

waiting.

In the same vein, do not leave until the Mass is

over. You don’t want to miss the final blessing,

through which the priest sends you into the world

to bear witness in the name of the Father, the Son

and the Holy Spirit. Come out of the church with a

new purpose, inspired by the Lord, to build his

Kingdom of love.

Do not wear inappropriate clothing. Do it for

you, and for others.

Do not enter the church without greeting the

Lord. When you arrive, cross yourself. God is

there, happy to see you. Thank him for the

invitation.

Do not be lazy when it comes to bowing or

genuflecting. If you walk past the altar, which

represents Christ, bow. If you pass through the

Tabernacle, where Christ is, genuflect.

Do not chew gum, eat, or drink during Mass.

Only water is allowed if necessary for health

reasons.

Do not sprawl or slump in the pew. Your body

should express your devotion.

Do not repeat “Through him, and with him,

and in him…” (that is, the Doxology that

concludes the Eucharistic Prayer). The only person

who should say this is the priest who presides

over the Mass.

Do not leave your place to go and give peace.

You should only greet those who are close to you

in the pew. Neither should you use this moment

to go congratulate someone or give condolences.

If you are not prepared, do not take Communion.

After communing, do not talk to others. Go

back to your place and talk to the Lord. If you

have not communed, make a spiritual communion

and talk to Him.

Turn off the phone. Do not keep messaging or talking on the cell phone during Mass, as it distracts you and the others. Turn your attention to the Lord, who is dedicating His attention to you.

WALKING RETREAT AT CENTOCOW

In February this year 11 members of St Dominic’s

walking group spent four days on a walking retreat at

Centocow, led by Pauline Rosseau with Fr Brian

Southwood as our spiritual director. The mission is run

by energetic and welcoming Paulist Father Ignatius.

One of his helpers, Polish priest Father Paul, who is a

great outdoorsman, guided us on our walks.

Early morning walks at 6am were refreshing before

breakfast, followed by more taxing ones, halfway up a

mountain and another down to a local waterfall. In the

afternoons and evenings we reflected, we shared, we

cried and we laughed. On our last day we walked the

Stations of the Cross in the grounds of Centocow

following the extremely moving stone portrayals of the

Passion of Our Lord.

Each day we attended Mass in the priests’ private

chapel. On Sunday Father Brian celebrated a Zulu mass

in the Church of the Sacred Heart, and the homily was

translated into English for us by walker Dr Steven

Carpenter. Singing by the church choir and

parishioners was heavenly and wonderfully uplifting.

Altogether an invigorating, prayerful, spiritual,

inspirational and fun-filled four days, the whole group

leaving Centocow reluctantly with plans to return as

soon as possible to walk again in the beautiful

countryside that surrounds the mission.

If you love to walk, or would like to get into the

habit of walking, please come and join us every

Saturday morning. To join the group contact

Robynne Lott on 084 510 4797 or

[email protected] or Gravin Phyfer on 082 807

1326 or [email protected]

26 May Centacow

02 Jun Hillcrest

09 Jun Peacevale

St Dom’s DVD Library Celebrate the Month of Mary

There are a number of very good DVDs in our DVD Library on the topic of Mary. Since May is the month of Mary, you might like to take this opportunity to learn more about our Holy Mother. Please note: The DVDs in our Library are copies, and therefore might not work well on all DVD players. Please let the office know if you experience any problems viewing the DVD and we will try to find a solution for you.

Seeking employment

One of our parishioners, Venessa Omarjee, is currently

looking for employment. She has experience in a
