• Columbus found a Dream World

• He found Thousands of Pounds of Gold and new exotic goods– New Foods, animals, spices, fruits

etc…..

• Then to top it all off Columbus found a perfect labor force right there as well.

• Once Columbus landed what did he do?– Clamed the land for Spain and the Catholic Church

• However once it is clamed Columbus could not leave it unprotected in fear of the Portuguese so Colonies started to spring up on ever island Columbus discovered.– Colony: A Body of people living in a new territory

but retaining ties with the parent state

• Spain will begin to Explore and Conquer both North and South America

• The Men who would sail across the Atlantic and claim this land were called Conquistadors

• Hernando Cortez lead a small group of Conquistadors that conquered the Mighty Aztec Empire
