Food in the Seychelles

• The traditional foods of The Seychelles are rich and heavy and they have very tasty Indian and French flavours. Rice is mostly eaten with every meal mixed in with spices and it is usually served as the main course along with thick curry. People enjoy eating their meals with coconut milk which is the ingredient that makes their meals thick and creamy. Foods that would be eaten for lunch are: potatoes, rice, curry and fish.

Clothes in the Seychelles

• Generally the Seychellois wear modern western style clothing. Women go to the market in cotton smocks and sandals. They wear locally made straw hats for sun protection. They may also wear African Sarongs. Men wear hats also and loose fitting short sleeved shirts and trousers. For casual dress both men and women wear shorts.

Manners in the Seychelles

• The people of the Seychelles are called the Seychellois. The Seychellois people are a mixture of Creole, Indian, Chinese, French, Africans, Arabs and British bloods. The Seychellois people always expect to shake hands when meeting people. Normally when visiting someone's home they bring a present as a sign of friendship and politeness.

History of the Seychelles

• In 1960 James Mancham formed the Seychelles Democratic Party (more commonly known as: SDP). In the early 1970’s the people of The Seychelles started to demand an end to the British rule. In March 1975 James Mancham formed a government with France-Albert Rene from the Seychelles Peoples United Party (SPUP).

• On June 28th 1976 Seychelles became an independent country with the Commonwealth. James Mancham was the president and France-Albert Rene as the prime minister.

Food in Qatar

• There are many varieties of foods in Qatar. Some include: seafood, dates, rice, chicken, sour apples, and fresh almonds. The traditional dish Machbous is richly spiced rice with chicken, seafood or lamb and it is usually served from a large saucer.

Clothes in Qatar

• Women in Qatar wear the traditional Abaya which is a thin black coat which is worn on top of a T-shirt and trousers. Men wear a Thobe which is a a long white dress type with a collar.

Manners in Qatar

• Because Qatar is a Muslim country, people always have to pray. One major and popular rule is that no one is allowed to take someone's picture without permission.

History of Qatar

• Sheikh Mohammed bin Al-Thani was the first ruler of Qatar. His son Sheikh Qassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani is known to be the founder of the Qatar Peninsula. During the 19th century the Al Khalifa family ruled the Northern part of Qatar till 1868 when the British came to negotiate the termination of the Al Khalifa reign. Later all the Al Khalifas had to move to Bahrain. Then the Al Thani family came in. They had just lived in Qatar for 200 years.

• On September 3, 1971 Qatar gained their independence.
