FACT: Bullying occurs in about

10 to 20 percent of seniors citizens.

Evidence is mounting that points to the facts that, while we grow older,

we don’t necessarily ‘grow up.’ The cattiness and aggressive

tendencies of our youth are not automatically erased as the years accumulate. In fact, there comes a

point where the years begin to pile on a host of problems that may cause an elder to revert to more

childish behavior like bullying. Physical pain, disease, loneliness, fear, and vulnerability are all

common symptoms of aging that can cause an el-der to lash out at their peers. While elder-to-elder

bullying comes in many varieties, it usually involves ostracism of some form. Men tend to adopt a more direct style, preferring to verbally abuse someone

to their face, or sometimes take a physical approach to their bullying. Women, on the other

hand, engage in more behind-the-back or passive aggressive abusive style. Don’t be a Bully!

“The Quartet” (1h 39min) Monday, June 18th at 10:30 am

ONE DAY ONLY! FREE POCORN! Once-popular opera diva Jean Horton (Maggie Smith) creates a stir with her arrival at Beecham House, a home for

retired performers. No one feels the uproar more than Reginald (Tom Courtenay), Jean’s ex-husband, who still

stings from her long-ago infidelity. Most of the other Beecham residents are delighted, and try to convince

Jean to join them in a performance of “Rigoletto.” Jean, however, knows that she is long past her prime and is reluctant to sully the memory of her once-lovely voice.
