MAD COW THEATRE is founded on the belief that the Theatre is a dynamic and powerful means of social understanding, as well as a hugely entertaining art form. Through the combination of passionate, skillful acting and compelling, insightful writing, nurtured by an attentive and ever-changing process, Mad Cow presents entertaining works of Theatre to an ever-widening audience–promoting, enhancing and celebrating the human condition through art.

Mad Cow Theatre is supported in part with public funds from United Arts of Central Florida, Inc.; The State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs; The Florida Arts Council, The National Endowment for the Arts; The Downtown Development Board; and Orange County Government through the Arts & Cultural Affairs Program. A Great Nation Deserves Great Art!

Mad Cow Theatre is a 501(c)3 organization and welcomes all donations including funds, materials, time and goodwill. We are especially delighted when audience members bring others to share the theatrical experience.

Mad Cow Theatre has forged many alliances and made many friends. This endeavor would not be possible without the generous spirit, passion and goodwill of the following individuals and organizations.

ABOUT ATHOL FUGARD

Athol Fugard was born in Middelburg, South Africa in 1932. His full name is Harold Athol Lanigan Fugard and as a child he was known as Hally before he decided he wanted to be called Athol.

He is white with English and Afrikaner parents. He was brought up in Port Elizabeth, South Africa with English as his mother tongue. He describes himself as an Afrikaner writing in English.

Fugard started working in the late 1950´s with a group of actors in Johannesburg, including Zakes Mokae, who were influenced by Strasburg’s method acting. Fugard wrote his first play No Good Friday and later his first international success The Blood Knot (which lead to his passport being withdrawn).

In the early 1960´s Fugard returned to Port Elizabeth and worked with The Serpent Players. Their first performance was in the former snake pit of a zoo, hence the name. Fugard played opposite Yvonne Bryceland in Boesman and Lena in 1969.

He and his wife live in San Diego, California, where he teaches as an adjunct professor of playwriting, acting, and directing in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of California, San Diego, and maintain a residence in South Africa.

LISA BUCK (Scenic Designer, Scenic Artist, Props) originally from Massachusetts, received her BFA in Graphic Design from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1976 and studied watercolor at the Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute. She has worked as art director for Dow Jones, American Heritage, Danskin Dance Wear, and Leavitt Advertising. Lisa moved to Orlando in 1996 and began painting and designing scenery for the Orlando Opera, Mad Cow Theatre, and Stetson University. Before returning to the pasture, Lisa worked as a graphic artist for Visit Orlando as the publication artist for Orlando Arts Magazine and Texture Magazine.

JOE CANDELORA (Marius Beyleveld) Candelora is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and a professional actor for more than forty years. He has appeared in over 250 stage productions, 40 TV shows, and 20 films. He was seen most recently as Duwell in Mitch Ablom’s Duck Hunter Shoots Angel at the State Theater of West Virginia. He keeps himself busy hosting ESPN Club Live, a Live interactive sports talk show at the ESPN club on Disney’s Boardwalk. He would like to thank his son Neil (world’s greatest Paul McCartney impersonator) and his wife Bettie-Ann (beauty, brains, and talent) for their love and support.

GINGER LEE McDERMOTT (Elsa) is very excited to be working with Mad Cow Theatre for the first time. She has recently returned from Chicago where she was last seen as Rachel in Season’s Greetings at Northlight Theatre. Other Chicago credits include Lady Middleton/Mrs. Ferrars in the original cast of Sense and Sensibility at Northlight Theatre, Bianca in Othello at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro at Remy Bumppo Theatre, and Ann Putnam, Sarah Good, and Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible at Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Other regional credits include Catherine in Proof at Orlando Theatre Project and Madame de Tourvel in Les Liaisons Dangereuses at Pendragon Theatre.

ERIN MINER (Lighting Design) The Road to Mecca marks Erin’s 64th show with Mad Cow Theatre. She is excited to be working with Aradhana for the first time! When not at Mad Cow, she can be found in the fields of Apopka High School as a drama teacher.
