The Walk to End Alzheimers is a very special fundraiser for the SBPHC. This year, we are walking to honor Patti Myles, who was a longtime Parrot Head, serving on the board for many years and putting her heart and soul into the causes we support.

This year’s Memory Walk will be held at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan

Benderson Circle, Sarasota 34235 (near UTC Mall). The park is beautiful with a 3.25 mile walkway around the lake. It is not required that you actually walk the walk

to participate but please sign up and show up... we need your support.

SBPHC has been participating in the walk since 1996; it is the BIGGEST charity our club supports. Anyone can walk; young, old, Parrot Head or not. This is a Keet friendly

event & a great opportunity for them to show their involvement with our charities. Please wear your brightest Parrot Head shirt to make sure that everyone knows who

has the best team spirit! ****DETAILS ON REGISTRATION ON PAGE 8****

And when the places you know become unfamiliar

And the people you love become strangers

And the things that made you feel safe turn into danger

There’s one thing you know you can trust

Your memories are safe with us.

Hello SBPHC! First I would like to thank everyone who came out to the Patti Myles Open on October 8th. We had a great turnout, the weather was fantastic, and the barbecue afterward was awesome. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping out with preparation, cooking, cleanup, raffles, etc. We can’t do any of this without all of you.

Well, it's that time of the year, when we all go down to Meeting of the Minds. If you haven't ordered your Bloody Mary Morning t-shirts for Friday in Key West make sure you send an email to Dennis. If this is your first time going to MOTM, on Friday morning our club all meets at Smokin’ Tuna Saloon at 9:30am and has a big fundraiser for The Wesley House. Trop Rock Junkies play for us that morning.

We will have the t-shirts at the October social so you can pick it up on the way to MOTM!

See everyone in the Keys! SBPHC....What time is it???? Time for a team drink! Mike Fontaine President

The Patti Myles Open Saturday, October 8, 2016

Early morning on Saturday, October 8, the Sarasota Bay Parrot Heads took to

Bobby Jones Golf Course for the 15th Annual Golf Tournament for Alzheimer’s

research. This year was special as this was the first year the Tournament was

named after and dedicated to our beloved Patti Myles.

The Patti Myles Open is an annual fun day on the links for members and non-

members who want to have fun, play golf and raise money for a good cause. This

year over 108 golfers competed for prizes and bragging rights in a four person

team scramble. In addition, awards were presented for Longest Drive - Whoa! (for

men and women), Longest Putt - Wheeee!, Closest to the Pin – Whoo Hoo! (on

four holes). The proud winners were as follows:

Longest Drive Men – Rob Carruabba

Longest Drive Women – Denise Johnson

Longest Putt – Jean Miles

Closest to the Pin – Rich Myles, Tom Rigby, and Paul & Susan Damico.

Most of the teams actually kept score. Here are the best of the best –

1st Place the team of “Tommy Are’s with a score of 66

2nd

Place the team of “Team Degenerates” with a score of 66

3rd

Place the team of “Pirates after 50” with a score of 67

I don’t know what the tie breaker was, but the “Degenerates” were beaten out.

Perhaps it was due to a lack of morals or character deviating from our Parrot

Head high standard of culture, development, and evolution. Naaaaaaaaaaaah!

Anyway, following the Tournament the golfers and non-golfers were treated to a

lunch at Twins Lakes Park. DJ Albert played the tunes and everyone talked

about the shot of the day that will bring them back. The Lunch was prepared and served by Club

volunteers and representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association were on hand to express their

appreciation for all the hard work and donations from the Sarasota Bay

Parrot Head Club.

This year we wish to thank Co-Chairmen Rich Myles and Mike Fontaine

as well as their crew at the golf course – Lucie, Tina, and Katie. At the

Luncheon my crew of Gary, Jerry, Sheree and Ann, along with Katie

and Lucie, did an excellent job on the food and Sharon and her Raffle

crew raised near-record funds. Thank you all.

The financial results of the Tournament will be combined with money

raised at the Alzheimer’s Walk on November 12th and be announced at

a later date.

“The White Lei” If you see someone wearing one, that means they are new members to

the club. Welcome them and tell them how much fun they are going to have as a member of the Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club! Every month I spotlight the new members that I have met at the meetings. Next time you see someone wearing a white lei, ask them to join your group! They all joined to make new friends, clean the environment and have a lot of fun along the way.

OUR NEW SEPTEMBER MEMBERS

Geri & Mike Salitsky moved down from Western New York and have lived in Eng-lewood for a year. They were members of the Western New York Parrot Head Club for over 10 years; they are currently members of the CHPHC. They joined the SBPHC hoping to meet more Trop Rock peeps and to become involved with our many activities. Geri’s favorite Buffet song is “Come Monday” because it’s slow and romantic and it is a bit different from Buffett’s usual Trop Rock song. Mike doesn’t have a favorite, he likes them all!

Bert Meyers was born in Philadelphia, but left there when he was 19. He moved to Florida but has lived in & out of Florida for many years. He was a Charter member of the Tampa Bay Parrot Head club, having been a member of the club for over 30 years. He lived in Hilton Head for several years, but there was no active Parrot Head club for him to become involved in. He moved to Sarasota to be near his sister and currently resides in Palm Aire. Oh, and he’s soon to be single girls…..just sayin’!

Charlie Imes is a Trop Rock musician who recently moved to Anna Maria Island from San Diego, Ca. He is living at the Sand Box on Holmes Beach and will continue with their house concerts. He is looking for gigs to play, if you get a chance to attend one of his shows be sure to check him out! Charlie’s favorite Buffett song is “Stranded on a Sandbar” because it has beautiful lyrics and is just a beautiful song!

We need more Fruitcakes in this world & less bakers!

Do you love to mingle, jingle, being a social Parrot Head? Well, do we have a job for you! Fruitcakes are members that help new members get acquainted with the club. Fruitcakes help new members learn all the ways our club com-municates to the members, understanding all of the club events and charities. We want to make sure that every one of our members knows who, what, where, how and why about our club and to make sure they meet and make new friends. Please contact Lucie at [email protected] if you are interested in being a SBPHC Fruitcake.

When should we Tailgate?

I was scheduled for work at 1pm yesterday. I had an inkling to Tailgate before the shift!

If only I could have packed a cooler for this shopping trip! I could be Tailgating while my wife is looking for her new clothes!

Now I know we are heading out on a Cruise with Palm trees and Malibu Drinks with 5 different Rums but let's Tailgate before we sail!

When can we Tailgate? Great question! Yes, we Tailgate before Football! The biggest Tailgate is the one before we see Jimmy Buffett! But how come we don't Tailgate before Sunny Jim or Rich McGuire? We should!

No... Not a good idea to Tailgate before Church or your Granddaughter's dance recital! But I've learned you can Tailgate at a funeral, What a way to go out!

Yes...Whenever you can be happy about an event and you can get enough people together before the event - Tailgate! Just make sure it is appropriate to do so...

No...You don't want to Tailgate if there's only two of you! There's power in numbers. Your pitcher of Margaritas might become evidence in your case, not good.

Yes! When it is a true Tailgate shindig bring enough to share! Dress up! If there is a reason to do so - wear it! Raise dough for Charity if you're a Parrot Head and get there early to join the fun!

Tailgating is as American as Apple Pie! And if we're lucky Susan will bring hers to share! Wahoo! Let's Tailgate!

Cruise News We have booked the 2017 SBPHC cruise. We are exploring the beautiful Western Caribbean this year with

stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya Mexico. For the scuba divers and snorkelers, this is the best area for that.

Also exploring Belize, where we will have a planned excursion for those that want to join us. There is also the

beautiful Mahogany Bay stop where Carnival has their own island with beach area and a few food and bever-

age choices. There is a ski lift that you can ride over (fee) or a free walking trail through the nice garden area.

We had new activity onboard during this last cruise, a cabin crawl/poker run, planned by Laura Dobkins. This

was so our cruisers got a chance to check out other categories of cabins that are available onboard and mix-

ing it up with a poker run game to add a little fun. It was a blast. We did cabin door decorations which was an

easy way to recognize your cabin and fellow cruisers.

New this year: onboard Chef and restaurateur Guy Fieri has expanded his seagoing culinary offerings with

Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse, a casual open-air eatery located on Carnival Magic’s Lanai on the

Promenade Deck.

The Smokehouse features a wide variety of BBQ favorites smoked right on board over hickory and cherry

wood using Guy’s signature recipes, rubs and spices. Fieri is cooking up real-deal smokehouse favorites like

bone-in, dry-rubbed, slow-smoked and pulled Championship Pork Butt, dry-rubbed and grilled Blue Ribbon

Chicken, smoked Andouille sausage and Sliced Smoked Round of Beef cooked 'low and slow' and thinly

sliced. A rarity on cruise ships, the open-air spot features a traditional wood smoker.

Also featured are Fieri’s own unique take on traditional side dishes with deliciously creative offerings like

Mac Daddy Mac n Cheese, Old School Potato Salad, Scratch-Made Slaw, Collard Greens with Smoked Tur-

key, and Molasses Baked Beans with Bacon and Burnt Ends.

Diners can spice up their dishes with Fieri’s signature BBQ sauces, including Award-Winning Brown Sugar

(sweet and sticky), Kansas City (smoky and sweet), and Sriracha BBQ (spicy and tangy) and Carolina #6

(tangy with sweet heat). A hot sauce bar, Open for lunch on sea days, 12:00pm-2:30pm, food is compli-

mentary;
