Fellow Classmates-

If you have not paid AMS for tuition, please pay them by the means provided in their letter mailed to you as soon as possible. If you have not received your reimbursement please let me know.

Remember to try to encourage co-workers to get into the SMU program. You will receive a $50 gift certificate for each referral that matriculates.

I have received several suggestions for spending our social allotment. Please submit any ideas you may have by next class. We will discuss them on Friday during lunch.

October Profile One:

Travis Pipkin

Travis and his twin brother Jarrell were born on December 6, 1969 in Fort Worth, TX. Travis has lived in Fort Worth all his life, except for the 5-years he spent overseas (Red River & Trinity River) attending Oklahoma Baptist University. Growing up, Travis was very active in church. He loved going fishing with his Dad and Granddad and playing the piano. He played baritone and tuba (not at the same time) in his high school marching band. He also played softball for his church team which won the state championship his senior year. In college, Travis started out as an Accounting major then added Computer Information Systems as a second major when he learned that computer majors were the only students granted access to the computer lab equipped with COLOR monitors. He met and fell in love with his third major course of study. Her name was Jill Dobelbower (soon-to-be Pipkin). She was from Bristow, OK and was also an ACCT/CIS double major. Travis and Jill were married on July 3, 1992 and moved to Euless, TX after graduation the following June. Travis spent 2 years doing accounting and computer work for Intertrans Corp in Irving, TX. In June, 1995 Travis began eight years of employment with The Millers Group/Inspire Insurance Solutions in downtown Fort Worth developing, implementing, and supporting several different insurance-related software systems. On August 25, 2002 Kyle Wesley Pipkin was born. He’s the pride and joy of his Mama and Daddy.

October Profile One:

Travis Pipkin

In March, 2003 Travis started at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics working in JSF Air Vehicle Interface Management and is still there today. He spends most of his time working to develop & verify requirements for the Signal Interface Management System (SIMS) tool used throughout the program and helping to manage the day-to-day activities of the AV Interface Management team. In his spare time, he referees boxing matches between Vehicle Systems and Mission Systems.Travis and his family recently moved from the Park Glen area of Fort Worth to the Van Zandt Farms community in Haslet where there is a little more elbow room. He is looking forward to a long and successful career at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

October Profile Three:

Brian Steele

Brian Steele was born on August 29, 1977 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple,TX. He grew up in the small town of Troy, TX which is roughly between Temple and Waco,TX. He has one brother, Danny, who is 2½ years older. From the pictures, you can tell that Brian was like most other kids, boozing it up as a child with the occasional bar fight. Besides going to school, as a youngen, Brian spent every summer playing baseball, riding his dirt bike, and fishing at his grandparents. In high school, Brian continued playing baseball until graduating from Troy High School in 1995 in a class of 78. After high school, Brian went on to Temple Junior College in Temple, TX. There he earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering (yes, AA of Arts) in the Spring of 1997. Also while going to school, Brian worked almost full time at Maco Manufacturing where he made and installed school, library, and church wooden furniture. This is still one of his favorite jobs to have ever had, and he still uses what he learned at Maco today to make some of his own home furniture. Brian’s next step was to go to Texas A&M University, WHOOP!!!, in College Station, TX, where he began class in the fall of 1997. Here Brian studied hard with the occasional break between studying.

October Profile Three:

Brian SteeleAlso, after not having time to do much other than work and school in Temple, Brian was able to pick up multiple hobbies in College Station including Mountain Biking, Adventure Racing, and Rock Climbing. Brian also spent one Summer doing a Co-op at Raytheon in Waco, TX, where he did design work on P-3 Modifications. Brian graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in the fall of 1999.From college, Brian accepted a job continuing to work on P-3 Modifications in Waco, TX at Raytheon. During his 3 years there he was able to continue with his hobbies and was able to get some great exposure and pictures from high elevations.

Also while in Waco, Brian got to do some important experimental work. Although most of the work has gone unnoticed, he had a lot of fun doing it.

October Profile Three:

Brian Steele

Another important part of Brian’s life in Waco was his continued relationship with his future wife, whom he met while in College Station. Shortly after her graduating in the fall of 2002, he proposed and they were married on February 1, 2003. Two weeks after the wedding, Brian and his new wife, Heather, moved to Crowley, TX, where he began his new job at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, TX as a Liaison Engr., and she started her career in Sports Management. Now that Brian has settled down, he, his wife and kids spend a lot of time together having a blast. Brian and his wife plan on having children of their own in the future, but are hoping to get a handle on their current adopted and orphaned children first. In the future, Brian hopes to continue his work in the aeronautics business. He has always and continues to want to stay on the technical side of the business.

Team Questions

What do I need to do for subsequent tuition reimbursement?

Begin by downloading Form c-551 from the Corporate forms library. Fill out all of the personal information. You do not need to resend program and class information. The cost per class is $2287.50. Submit the statement you should have received from SMU regarding the amount you owe. You know what you paid for your books, so include that cost on the form and copy the receipt. I highly recommend you FAX to eliminate any issues with snail mail or STAMPS. Again you will be over the $5250 mark for the year, so be sure and add a piece of paper requesting full tax exemption. Last semester some students in other classes were taxed for some reason, so be sure and include that document stating this is work related and is tax exempt. If you run into problems, let me know. If you have questions, contact EFS then contact me with the outcome. Oh, and I guess it would be good to print your grades from Access and send them, too!
