The Seniors’ Ministry at West Seventh is beginning a new chapter. Barry England has agreed to coordinate the Seniors’ ministries and activities as a part of his Family Ministry responsibilities. Among several changes that are taking place, the Seniors’ group will now be referred to as the “Prime Timers” group. The Prime Timers began this new chapter with an informational fellowship meal and meeting on Sunday, March 2. During this meeting, the plan for the Prime Timers was shared with approximately 75 who attended.

The new Prime Timers ministry will be divided into three areas: Service, Enrichment and Fellowship. There will be team leaders coordinating each area.

The Service area will be coordinated by George and Shirley Freeland. The Service ministry will consist of Prime Timers helping to fulfill any needs that other Prime Timers may have. Members of the group on occasion have needs such as being taken to doctor’s appointments or other errands, yard or house work, etc. There is a large number of volunteers within the group who are willing to help in a time of need if they are aware of the opportunity and available to do so. Through the organization of this effort, those who are willing to help will be identified and offered the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of one another. Since coming to West Seventh, George and Shirley have been very involved in service for others both within the West Seventh family and beyond. They will do a great job of organizing this area

and many will benefit from their leadership.

The Enrichment area will be coordinated by Darrell and Deena Trimble. The Enrichment efforts will consist of activities provided for West Seventh and other seniors groups providing both spiritual and informational enrichment opportunities through the organization of these activities. Many significant opportunities exist to organize information sharing activities and resources that will be both meaningful and practical for West Seventh and other senior aged adults. Darrell and Deena are excellent organizers, extremely creative, and most importantly, have tremendous hearts for others and for God. The planning of the first Enrichment activities is currently in process and the first of these activities will be announced soon.

The Fellowship area will consist of opportunities for Prime Timers to be together and enjoy one another’s company. West Seventh has a strong history of trips and other activities having served this purpose, and this will continue through this particular area of emphasis. Team leaders for the Fellowship area are Bob and Judy Cofer and Faye Kinzer. The first of the Fellowship events took place on March 21 when several Prime Timers traveled

to Lawrenceburg for dinner and a local community play. Bob, Judy, and Faye will be seeking input from members of the Prime Timers group in order to determine and schedule upcoming Fellowship activities.

West Seventh is blessed to have a large number of senior adults and particularly to have a very capable and serving group. The Prime Timers group desires to do more than simply engage in fun activities. While these events will be provided, learning, sharing, and serving will be a significant part of the Prime Timers ministry. If you consider yourself a senior adult, please plan to participate and be a part of the group.

Thank you, church, for the great response we enjoyed at our special send-off Sunday, March 9. It was a day our family will not soon forget. We were especially encouraged by how many of you immediately began praying Jesus’ prayer from Matthew 9 and Luke 10

“Lord of the harvest, please send out workers into your harvest field.”

We believe God is willing and able to do a great work in our target country. We also believe success is dependent on your prayers! Please begin by committing to pray the above prayer every day.

As our journey begins, we’d like the whole church to be informed about us and our work so that we will continue to be a part of you and so that you will know how best to pray for us and the work. The best way to stay in the know is to follow our blogs:

“The church that helps people” is how the church in Cusco, Peru is known to the people there. During the first week of March once again for the fourth year in a row, the small building in Cusco was turned into a medical clinic. Jeff Binkley, Lori James and Kerry and Lisa Couch had the opportunity to be involved with 30 other individuals from Alabama and Kentucky. A four day medical clinic consisted of two doctors, two nurse practitioners, several registered nurses and one pharmacist. Also, in the clinic were three optometrists and two physical therapists. The total number of patients treated for the week was 1,413. The church in Cusco has been in existence for three and a half years, with Barton Kizer and Gary Reaves serving as the missionaries. Just a little under 100 members meet each Sunday to worship. Barton and Gary are two very dedicated men working in the city and surrounding villages of Cusco to show God’s love. The week in Peru proved to be successful in treating the people physically and spiritually.
