Vehicle Description:Suited for short to medium haul applications, this well proven unit with a rated power of 81kW@2900rpm and a torque of 275Nm@1600rpm is ideal for everyday operations.

Typical Applications:Butchery deliveries, contractors, shop fitting, delivery service, parcel deliveries, truck-hire companies, furniture dealers, hardware suppliers, newspaper and magazine deliveries.

Vehicle Description:The “Big Brother” of the range, this turbo powered unit boasts 100kW@2900rpm with a torque of 370Nm@1600rpm. A versatile world-class performer ideal for intercity deliveries with excellent fuel consumption and high average speed. Typical Applications: Intercity cargo van, express deliveries, scaffolding and construction supply, overnight deliveries, plant hire, timber merchant and furniture deliveries.

Vehicle Description:This 4x4 unit is built to take on the harsh South African terrain, this unit takes you anywhere. The truck is fitted with a high and low range transfer box for four wheel drive and limited slip rear differential, keeping the vehicle moving under the toughest road conditions. Single and dual rear wheel options available.

Typical Applications:Utility industry, fire truck and rescue vehicle, game capturing & viewing and most off-road applications.

FEATURES

Gear Shift - One of the most noticeable features of the new generation FUSO cab is the gearshift. Mounted on the dash and fitted across the entire range, the in-dash gearshift lever falls easily to hand and has been ergonomically designed for maximum comfort. Featuring a short throw shift mechanisim and precise selector gate, this new gear change makes working life more productive. With the relocation of the gearshift, cross cab access for both driver and passengers has also been improved!

Cab - Created to make working life more enjoyable and designed to maximise levels of driver comfort, every element of the new generation FUSO Canter cab is superior. From the outset the FUSO Canter’s fully redesigned cab takes on a completely new look. Overall cab dimensions have been increased. Door apertures have been widened, a larger windscreen has been fitted and mirror arms are more robust, stylish and functional. Interior enhancements include a fully adjustable driver’s seat and a front passenger bench seat with integral headrests and a redesigned easy-clean dashboard. In addition there is a fully rake and reach adjustable steering column.

Front Cab & Headlights - The front grill of the new generation Canter has been purposefully redes igned and the ha logen head lamps, incoporating clear lens indicators, take on a completely new wrap-around appearance.

Safety - Safety is at the forefront of the new cab design. Featuring the new FUSO Canter RISE (Realised Impact Safety Evolution) impact system, where all crash protection aspects have been addressed. The cab floor has been strengthened, the steering column is now collapsible and the doors now feature a cross doorframe protection bar. In addition, the new dashboard features an impact-absorbing frame and is manufactured from shatter resistant materials. ABS with environmentally friendly non-asbestos brake linings are fitted as standard on all the new generation FUSO Canters.

Chassis - Cass leading body and payload allowances. The new generation FUSO Canter uses the latest technology in chassis design. The hot rolled 6mm sections, featuring riveted construction, provide a very tough, flexible, yet lightweight chassis frame. The clear top rails of the chassis simplifies body mounting with the resultant reduction of costs. The chassis is suitable for a wide range of different body applications.

New Model designations - The new generation FUSO Canter comes in one engine size with two configurations. The 4x2 range has the nomenclature FE6-109 and FE7-136. The 4x4 model FG6-136 appeals to the agricultural industry, utilities sector, mining, wildlife and construction sector.

Powertrain - With one engine and two configurations for specific applications, the 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5 tonne models are fitted with 4D34 diesel engines. With a capacity of 3908cc and producing 81kW/275Nm to 100kW/370Nm in the turbo intercooled version, these engines provide excellent low speed flexibility, brisk acceleration and outstanding fuel efficiency. These engines are extremely economical and reliable. With a forward tilting cab on all models, engine access for service requirements are quick and simple.

A short history of FUSOIt all started with a single bus – the prosaically named B46 – in 1932. Seven metres long, with a passenger capacity of 38, it was powered by a seven litre, 6 cylinder engine that produced a credible 100 horsepower. The company marked this auspicious occasion by inviting employees to come up with a nickname for their inaugural vehicle and FUSO, an ancient Chinese term for a sacred tree, was chosen. The princely sum of three yen was awarded to the lucky winner! (The actual Fuso tree is a hibiscus, known in Japanese as “bussoge”. It is an evergreen that grows about three metres high and produces beautiful red and pale pink flowers.)

Over the past eighty years the company, FUSO, has flourished and continued to produce new and exciting varieties that have become as much sought after and admired as their horticultural namesake. The 21st century is an exciting time for FUSO. We are now a fully consolidated business unit of Daimler AG and can therefore safely say we are part of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers. This incorporation puts us on a strong footing to extend our reputation as the longest serving and most popular range of heavy duty vehicles in Japan to the rest of the world, with special interest in South Africa, with whom we have enjoyed close ties for many years.

Today, with over eighty years of technological innovation and expertise under our belts, we are more committed than ever to manufacturing, innovation, selling and servicing our range to the complete satisfaction of an ever-expanding customer base. A look into the futureSince the original B46, acclaimed by contemporary experts for its performance on steep hills, rough roads and its extraordinary durability, FUSO has always striven to produce the benchmark by which other manufactures could measure themselves.

Thanks to inspired product planning, we have always stayed at least one step ahead of our competition and in our earlier days were acknowledged by government as having made a sizeable contribution to Japan’s overall economic miracle. Later, our buses helped usher in, and cope with, the burgeoning tourist industry. During this period of rapid economic growth we helped realise the birth of high-speed, high-payload transport and, as society’s needs diversified, we were always first to provide tailor-made solutions by developing relevant payload and size variations to fit any and all requirements.

In the future, we will forge ahead by pursuing the three cornerstones of commercial vehicle success – economy, safety and comfort – while adding our own cornerstone; harmony with the environment and compatibility with the drivers and passengers of our vehicles. To this end, we are committed to clean diesel engines, low fuel consumption and compliance (in fact, over-compliance) with the strictest emission control laws.

Ongoing projects include the development of light duty trucks and small buses that exploit alternative fuels such as gasoline, compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, as well as investing in hybrid vehicle research. We are also pioneers in the area of barrier-free vehicles, with non-step buses for senior citizens and people in wheelchairs. Obviously we at FUSO realise we must continuously look to the future. However, we also believe that true success comes from never forgetting our past.
