Are you physically active, or do you fall victim to the TV remote?

Here’s a frightening statistic. A recent report from the Alzheimer’s Association predicts that 10 million U.S. baby boomers – that’s one out of eight – will develop Alzheimer’s disease.

Studies conducted over the past several years suggest that exercise which raises your heart rate for at least 30 minutes several times a week can lower your risk of Alzheimer’s. In one study, investigators looked at the relationship between physical activity and mental function in about 6,000 women age 65 and older over an eight-year period. They found that the women who were more physically

active were less likely to experience a decline in their mental function than inactive women.

According to Dr. Ronald Petersen, director of the Alzheimer’s Research Center at the Mayo Clinic, “Regular physical exercise is probably the best means we have of preventing Alzheimer’s

disease today, better than medications, better than intellectual activity, better than supplements and diet.”

So, get moving!

“These two words recognize that the way we do our work is as important as the work we do,” Lance said. “The refreshed brand is rooted in our SPIRIT Values, but also describes other attributes that we believe diff erentiate us. Most of the concepts in the refreshed brand are not new; they are part of the fabric of ConocoPhillips.”

The company is emphasizing that the brand refresh is not about logos, slogans or ad campaigns. Taking a very measured approach, the rollout will rely on the participation of all employees, who have been invited to share the brand messages where they live and work. To help them do that, on launch day, several resources were distributed worldwide, including a digital brochure entitled Defi ning the ConocoPhillips Brand, a brand video and an online Brand Center.

Long time Conoco landman and Denver resident Keith Starr Bennett passed away on November 27, 2014 at the age of 90.

Starr was born in Tonkawa, Okla. and attended Tonkawa schools, where he was active in drama and glee clubs. After attending Northeast Oklahoma Junior College, Starr was called to serve in World War II as a U.S. Army fi rst lieutenant in the Philippines. After the war, he returned to attend the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in business in 1949. He was a proud Sooner and a member of Acacia fraternity.

After graduation, Starr joined Continental Oil Company as a scout and landman, proudly working for the company for 36 years and retiring in 1985 as senior exploration landman. During his long career, he worked primarily in the Rocky Mountain region, opening the Conoco exploration offi ce in Billings,

Montana in 1960. After returning to Denver in 1962, he was instrumental in establishing the University of

Oklahoma’s professional landman certifi cation program.

A member of the American Association of Professional Landmen and the Denver Association of Professional Landmen, he was voted 1959 Landman of the Year.

Keith married Patsy June Raborn in Houston in 1950. After her death in 1981, he married Bozena “Bo” Crabb in 1982. They were married until her death in 2006. In his last years, his special companion was Teri C. Thompson of Ocean Beach, Calif.

Keith was an avid fi sherman and sportsman who loved international travel. During his time as scoutmaster

of Boy Scout Troop 258 in Denver, he had a positive infl uence on many young men. Keith is survived by eight children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
