Software used: Autocad 2010, Google Sketchup 6, Vray for Sketchup (Vray Core 1.49.84), and Adobe Photoshop Cs4

This is not a step by step tutorial. My aim to this “The making of modern minimalist house “ is to give you some tips and tricks, ideas, additional knowledge about software I use and I’ll show

you my process in creating this render. From 2d to 3d Architectural Visualization.

M O D E L I N G

After finishing the floor plan, next step is exporting the autocad to sketchup. The version of cad file must be compatible with the sketchup you are using. In my case I’m using Autocad 10 for 2d , and sketchup 6 for 3d. so before I import cad file in sketchup, first I must convert the cad file into older version, like version 2004 or 2005 for me to be able to open it in sketchup. image below shows how to properly import the cad files in sketchup.

This is going to be the result of importing cad file in sketchup. After this, you can now start model the house.

For realism, i want the edge of my concrete walls to be soft . I can easly make this by using one of my favorite sketchup plugin, RoundEdge plugin (by Bezier).

After picking the corners of concrete I wanted to be smooth, I can now adjust the offset

(radius) by 25 mm in thr Round corner parameter. As shown by the image below.

This is the result of using the RoundEdge plugin (by Bezier).

After long hours of modeling, here is the finished model without texture.

And here is the finished model with texture, most of texture I used in this model can be found at the paint bucket (default sketchup 6 materials).

Now that im done with modeling and texturing, I can now proceed to setting the lighting

in my scene. This is the one of the most important part if you want to achieve a good realistic rendering.I change the face style from “shaded with texture” to “shaded” for me to have a clear view on how the the lighting creates shadows in the scene.

Now im satisfied with result of my lighting, I will proceed now to my camera setting.I what my scene to be in a normal view (man’s eye view). I change te face style from “shaded” to “wireframe” . it helps me to see the horizon line (the red line) in the scene. After determining the horinzon line,save the create and save the scene.

R E N D E R S E T T I N G S

My rendering engine is Vray core 1.49.84. This is the render setting I usually used when its comes to exterior rendering. This setting is based on the default setting. I just change the other parameter.

P O S T – P R O D U C T I O N

This is my workflow in Post-production and I use Photoshop Cs4. i learned my style by visiting some forums about photo enhancement. I hope this tips and tricks of mine serves as an additional knowledge in your skills in Photoshop.

Image below is my rendered image saved in png format .as you can see it hgas no background.

I want this image to be my sky background .

I place the sky background layer behind the rendered image.

Adjust now the brightness and contrast of your sky background. Click the background

image layer and hit CTRL+M (curves) just like the image below.

To achieve more lively sky background, go to Filter>Distort>Diffuse Glow…

Click the upper layer (redered image) then go to Layer>Merge Down or hit CTRL+E to combine the rendered image and your sky background.

Hit CTRL+M (curves) again to add contrast and brightness in the image.

I want the colors of my image to be more lively , we can now proceed to color balancing. Hit CRTL+B, under tone balance, click the Shadows. Then try to play the colors( this depends on your taste).

Hit CRTL+B again, under tone balance, click Midtones. Adjust again the colors.

Hit CRTL+B again, under tone balance, click Highlights. Finally adjust again the

colors (last part of color balancing).

Adding Vignette on your image adds drama and makes it more photo realistic. There

are 2 ways to d this effect. 1st go to Filtter>Distort>Lens Correction… Then you can adjust the amount of vignette effect. And below image is my 2nd way to create that effect. First, create a new layer and put it in above the image layer., then color it with black by using paint bucket tool. Change the blending mode to soft light. Use eraser tool and erase the part you don’t want to be darken.

After adding vignette, now next step is to add Chromatic Aberration. - color distortion caused by lens defect: an optical aberration in a lens, caused by a defect, leading to colored light of different colors being refracted differently.

Duplicate the image layer. Click and drap the layer to the “add new layer icon” then go to Filter>Distort>Lens Correction…

Don’t give too much Chromatic Aberration effect because it will destroy your

rendered image. In this image, below shows my settings in Chromatic Aberration.

Use Eraser tool to erase the area you don’t want to be affected with the Vignette

and the Chromatic aberration effect. I doing this to emphasize the sharp areas of the

rendered image. after this, you can now merge it down to the first layer.

The last part my post-production. I add frames, and my signature logo for

presenatation. (optional) you can hit CRTL+M (curve) again if you still want too adjust

the brightnes and contrast of your image.
