13 February 2017: 1400 - 1550 Hrs, Kalinga-1 Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru

Programme

India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets and currently the ninth largest in the world. India is projected to be

the third largest aviation market by 2020. In the defence sector, the country has extensive modernization plans and has a

favourable policy that promotes enhanced participation of Indian Industry as well as foreign industry through Joint

Ventures / Foreign Direct Investment with the aim to “Make in India” – enhance competence and capability of Indian

industry via technology inputs of OEMs, and collaboration in design and manufacturing.

Indian industry has the technological capabilities to undertake complex manufacturing required for the sector and offers

cost competitiveness. With over 380 universities, 11,200 colleges and 1,500 research institutions, India has the second

largest pool of scientists and engineers in the world. Every year, over 2.5 million graduates are added to the workforce,

including 300,000 engineers and 150,000 IT professionals. This human resource pool offers unmatched advantage and

can be transformed into a huge talent and skill reservoir for the sector. That many foreign OEMs have established their

R&D centres for global delivery in India testifies this.

Karnataka is the aerospace hub of India and is an attractive destination for defence manufacturing firms. This session will

highlight the investment opportunities in the aerospace and defence sector in India and integration of Indian

manufacturers in the global supply chain. The session shall also delve into the capabilities of the local industry which the

foreign OEMs can access to fulfil their offset obligations. The session will also seek participants’ valuable views to address

the identified challenges facing the Indian manufacturing sector with respect to aerospace and defence.
