The Imperial Hotel | The existing restaurant and outside areas at The Imperial Hotel were not being utilised to their full potential. The restaurant, despite being located in a fantastic, character filled timber building was dark and uninviting. The outside areas consisted of a few picnic tables on an area of sloping grass. The terraces now provide seating for up to 100 patrons, served by a new terrace bar which is located in the old wine cellar, and offering spectacular views over Rocquaine Bay. The middle terrace is accessible by wheelchair from all parts of the site and all levels are served by ambulant stairs. In the restaurant the existing ceiling height and a large floor void were utilised to install a mezzanine set against the new two storey glazed gable. The remainder of the restaurant has been refurbished in light colours and furnishings. The natural warmth and character of the wooden roof structure has been retained. Almost anywhere in the restaurant there is now a sea view, as well as a feeling of light and space, largely thanks to the west facing glazed gable providing sunset views from both levels. To complement the new restaurant and terraces, the rest of the hotel has undergone a period of gradual refurbishment to rooms and public spaces which includes the addition of new male, female and accessible WCs. Since re-opening the restaurant has proved extremely popular with locals and visitors, and the hotel is gaining a good reputation as a boutique destination venue. CLIENT: R W Randall Ltd.
