Once upon a time there was a farmer and his wife. They had no children and she became very lonely. She decided she was going to bake a gingerbread man. She mixed some dough and cut out a large gingerbread man.

After baking the gingerbread man, she no longer felt lonely.Then much to her surprise, the gingerbread man jumped off the cookie sheet and ran around the house! The farmers wife thought This must be what it is like to have children!

When she went to pick up the gingerbread man, he yelled, Run, run, as fast as you can! You cant catch me, Im the gingerbread man! Im free, Im free! Then the gingerbread man ran out of the house. The farmers wife chased after him, but he was too fast. He ran out to the field where the farmer was working.

The gingerbread man kept yelling, Run, run, as fast as you can! You cant catch me Im the gingerbread man! Im free, Im free! He ran past a cow, a horse, and a hen. They all tried to catch him, but he was just too fast.

At last, the gingerbread man came to a pond where he had to stop. Oh me, oh my, what shall I do now? he said. I cant get wet. A fox came out of the bushes and said, Climb onto my back and I will give you a ride across the pond. When they reached the middle of the pond, the fox lowered his back onto the water. QUICK! Climb up onto my big nose! The water is deeper here! said the fox.

As the gingerbread man quickly climbed the foxs nose, the fox said Yum, yum, look what I caught for me! One gingerbread man, and its free, its free! In one gulp, the fox gobbled up the gingerbread man.
