Lighting DesignCAD Software Facility

Accurate lighting designs enable the client to see the finished effect right from the start.

We have a wide range of photometric data available for all types of lighting, including low energy, halogen and LED in both decorative and commercial luminaires. We are also able to advise on the building regulations requirements, and have a wide range of Part L solutions.

Our software allows for lights to be dimmed, or turned off completely, creating the effect of different circuits and zones within the design, making it possible to show the client how lighting control systems can be used to generate different lighting moods. Walls and floors can be realistically covered with a wide variety of materials or colours, and furniture can be inserted to permit a very close and accurate simulation. Emergency lighting levels can also be verified in this way.

The output generated from the lighting design can be supplied in a PDF format for ease of use by clients.

We are able to import and export into the lighting software directly from CAD programmes which enables us to produce detailed lighting layouts on the architectural drawings provided, very precisely.

We are very willing to discuss lighting requirements with clients, and arrange for site visits. Many clients also benefit from viewing the lighting design on screen during a visit to our showroom.

Using our sophisticated lighting design software we can demonstrate how the chosen luminaires will perform, by creating the room setting in 3D and placing the lights into the scene. The software will then calculate the lux levels and produce 3D virtual images. The output also includes luminaire data, isometric data and lux levels at floor level and on the workplane.

Lighting Design

What type of projects can you help with?Typically we tend to work with high end residential projects, ie barn conversions, new builds, refurbs. We also offer a one-room service which both end users and kitchen & bathroom studios find advantageous. In addition to this we regularly assist clients with retail and commercial designs including restaurants, hotels and shops – eye-catching and dramatic effects can be created with the help of our expert input.

Where do I start?Start by e-mailing us your plans so we can get a feel for your project. We can then agree the lighting design fees and arrange an initial consultation with our designers. This will involve discussing how the rooms are to be used, effects that you would like to create, lighting control requirements, and the budget available. We will also discuss our extensive product range, beginning to formulate ideas. This consultation is normally carried out at our showroom – we are open Monday to Friday 7.00-4.30. An appointment would need to be arranged.

What will it cost?Lighting design fees depend entirely on the scale and complexity of the project. Please send over your plans to receive a quote for the design.

What do you need from me?Please bring your plans including all sections and elevations. Site photos and information about kitchens/bathrooms and other furniture are also very useful. Throughout the project you will have the opportunity to make the ultimate choice on many aspects, particularly the decorative fittings which are often a very personal choice. However our designers are more than happy to assist you in this with suggestions from our comprehensive ranges.

THE DESIGN PROCESS – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What happens next?A personalized lighting design is generated, taking into account the desires and individual requirements of the client. Further suggestions are made as to which pendants, track fittings, chandeliers, downlights etc are to be included in the design, before the design is finalised. Site visits and further showroom consultations are arranged as appropriate throughout the process. Once everything is agreed, a presentation package is compiled including the finished lighting design, lighting layouts and lighting schedule clearly listing the products room by room with quantities, prices and technical info. A summary sheet gives the total costs in a user-friendly format.

Do you only provide designs, or can you also supply the lighting?Yes, the lighting is usually purchased from us. Our immense range of lighting caters for all applications and all tastes, providing an effective source of inspiration for every project. The designs generated by our skilled designers will be specifically created with our superb products in mind.

How long will the process take?We will always do our best to work with your deadlines, but typically it is best to allow 4-6 weeks minimum for a full whole-house lighting design. Our design department is usually very busy so it is best to book early to avoid disappointment.


Our project management stage begins once the design phase is completed and the development is underway. Often the most difficult and stressful part of a project for the client or developer, we can liaise with builders and electrical contractors from first fix to commissioning, to ensure a smooth and successful installation.

TECHNICAL TIPS:Domestic MCBs often need to be upgraded to larger ratings with C-Type anti-surge capabilities to cope with the in-rush current from these powerful toroidal transformers.

Many regular rotary dimmers cannot control toroidal transformers. Please contact us to discuss ways in which you can dim these transformers using special dimmers.

Toroidal transformers will often emit a slight buzz when operational, particularly if used with dimmers.

A petite mains voltage track system suitable for both residential and commercial applications. The two circuits can be switched separately or individually to create a total of three lighting moods. Swarovski Crystal Fibre Optic Kits offer a diverse configuration of crystal starry skies, using precisely ground Swarovski crystal tips to reflect star-shaped patterns on the wall or ceiling. A wide variety of innovative sets is available, offering endless possibilities and generating a whole new world of ideas.

Fibre optic kits are available for installation into paving, flooring, baths, spas and Jacuzzis, shower cubicles, or to create star effects on ceilings. SENTOThe Sento head offers the flexibility of changing lighting effects, due to the use of different light components. Coloured lenses can be changed simply and easily, even after installation. Five different colour filters enable the user to create atmospheric mood lighting, swapping the filters between the wall lights, ceiling lights and table lamps.

THE PIÙVersatile, powerful and functional, this superb range of ceiling fittings includes recessed, semi-flush, surface mounted and track varieties. LED RGB COLOUR CHANGE MODULE CHAINThis product is available in bespoke lengths, with a choice of 2-diode or 4-diode blocks. IP68 DECORATIVE LED This tiny (31mm faceplate diameter) 1W 350ma IP68 LED luminaire is totally immersible, making it suitable for use in bathrooms, wet rooms, swimming pool areas etc. It doesn’t give out much light; the unit is designed for effect only, but looks very stunning in many applications. Choose from cool white, blue, red, amber or green LED. Requires a driver.

LED/GLO18C SOFT OPAL. IP68This high quality 80,000hr 0.5W 24V DC IP68 LED light is fully immersible. The 36mm diameter luminaire emits a soft light with no glare, making it suitable for use as a marker light on decking, around pools etc. Available in stainless steel or antique brass, with option of white, blue, red, amber or green LED. Requires a driver.

LED/GLO19C SPOT. IP68 This product has exactly the same qualities as the LED/GLO19C FLOOD, but is fitted with a 12 degree lens for a tight, powerful jet of light. This is used with dramatic effect at the base of columns, along the foot of interior and exterior walls, or as a wall light for creating a pencil of light across a tiled floor.

LED/LYNX FLOOD This 1W 350mA high power chrome LED marker light has a very wide beam angle, and its very small size (30mm diameter, 19mm depth) makes it ideal for installing in small alcoves, wall units, shelving, and anywhere where a small but punchy light output is required for accent lighting. LED/LYTE IP THREADED FLOOD. IP65 This threaded version of the LED/LYTE IP FLOOD is designed for installation in outer bath panels, outer shower trays, kitchen plinths etc.


FRAME BASIC This 1W 350mA square LED wall light has many applications for marker lighting, stair lights, floor wash effects etc. Faceplate is 90mm x 90mm. LED available in cool white, warm white or blue. Requires a driver. The unit can be fitted with negatives or filters to provide small lighted signs.

The Rebel ProfileThis LED profile creates a ‘point’ light effect. Available in five lengths, these profiles are interconnectable. TAPTILE – Touch controlled mood lighting

An innovative lighting control system specifically designed for bathrooms, enabling the user to program and recall personalised scene settings by touching the six touch zones marked on the front of a tile. The Taptile unit installed behind the tile sends radio signals to the controller unit above the ceiling. The touch zone areas can be personalised - for example with mosaic tiles - or it can simply be used with the facia provided with each Taptile system. Multiple Taptile units can be used within a bathroom for added convenience.

This outer housing is designed to be fitted before the ceiling is plastered, however it can be retro-fitted using a special tool.

Insulation GuardThe latest Building regulations Approved document L requires that insulation is laid unbroken over the whole ceiling area in cold loft spaces to avoid thermal bridging ie the loss of heat through spaces in the insulation due to the fitment of luminaires.

This galvanised metal guard means that insulation does not have to be cleared around the light fitting. Available in two sizes.
