NEBT is an exciting company which is a refreshing addition to the UK dance and art scene.

I feel that it is very important to help ouryoung professional artists as they developtheir careers and especially important tosupport new works across the arts. NewEnglish Ballet Theatre seeks to do just that, and I am proud to be its patron.

As one of the UK’s youngest and mostvibrant ballet companies, New EnglishBallet Theatre is synonymous withexcellence, innovation, and inspiration.New English Ballet Theatre is a neoclassicalballet company with a mission to nurturetalent and promote the careers of emergingballet dancers, choreographers, designersand musicians. Seeking out exceptionaltalent and potential, we are dedicated toproviding paid opportunities and ongoingmentoring for our performers as theydevelop their careers.

New English Ballet Theatre creates 21stcentury ballet for 21st century audiences.As part of this process, NEBT is committedto introducing ballet to new audiences andyoung people through our touring andoutreach programme.

This Summer we recently held our thirdTaking Chances: Choreography Lab, whichwill take place as part of our dress rehearsalat Lanterns Studio Theatre in Canary Wharfwith Outreach classes joining us fromvarious parts of London and beyond on theday. We will be featuring the work ofchoreographers Daniela Cardim, Jenna Lee,Mark Smith - the Director of Deaf MenDancing and Valentino Zucchetti.

After an Arts Council Grant and our newoffices in Thurrock, we are thrilled to bebringing our world premiere of The FourSeasons choreographed by Jenna Lee withmusic by Max Richter to The Lilian BaylisStudio at Sadler’s Wells this June. Inaddition we will show our critically acclaimed ballets Vertex by Daniela Cardim andEnticement’s Lure by Valentino Zucchetti.

Enticement’s LureValentino Zucchetti’s new ballet, set toRachmaninov’s Trio Elegiaque No. 1 in G Minor, explores how temptation and desire impact on the relationships of two couples.

This ballet is generously supported by the Richard Cunis Syndicate and The Nicholas Berwin Chartiable Trust.

VertexDaniela Cardim’s piece, heavily influencedby classical music from her native Braziland set to Camargo Guarnieri’s StringQuartet No. 2, examines the dynamic andthe intention of movement in response to the music and to the mesmerisingdrawings of renowned Royal Academy of Arts sculptor, Ann Christopher.

In this ballet, April Dalton’s exquisitecostume design and Jenna Lee’s dramaticchoreography enrich this refreshing re-composition of Vivaldi’s masterpiece bypioneering British composer Max Richter.

The Four Seasons brings a modern take to a loved classic.Antonio Vivaldi wrote the four violin concertos known as Lequattro stagioni in 1721. Today, The Four Seasons may be themost widely heard piece of classical music ever composed.

KAREN PILKINGTON-MIKSAArtistic Director and CEO

Karen Pilkington-Miksa B.Ed., ARADgrew up in England and WashingtonD.C. She trained as a classical dancerand performed with the Seattle Balletbefore moving to London to pursueher career as a freelance dancer andchoreographer. She’s choreographedfor opera groups and BBC television,formed her own ballet company,Chelsea Dance and she started theKnightsbridge Ballet School in 1979.

Her work in mounting ballet ledKaren to a second career as a painterand sculptor. She subsequentlystudied at the Academy of Fine Art inNew York and at Heatherley Schoolof Fine Art in London. Karen’ssculpture and paintings, which reflect a fascination with the humanfigure and dancers in motion andperformance, have been exhibited in the US and UK and are found in many private collections.

In 2011, Karen founded NEBT toshowcase new choreography and to support the careers of emergingdancers, artists, designers andchoreographers. So far, the companyhas performed 5 West end seasons to critical and public acclaim,commissioned 16 new dance works,furthered the careers of 71 youngdancers and showcased the talents of 13 emerging choreographers, 47 musicians and 11 designers. NEBTis a proud partner organisation of theLyric Hammersmith and a proudcultural partner organisation of theThurrock Trailblazer – Royal OperaHouse. NEBT also collaborates with Cheltenham Music Festival,Garsington Opera, The EnglishConcert Orcestra, Handle House and Metal Festival.

DANIELA CARDIM Company Manager

Daniela Cardim danced with theDutch National Ballet in Amsterdamfor 11 years and with Ballet doTheatro Municipal do Rio de Janeirofor 5 years. She was commissionedby Dutch National Ballet to createchoreographic works for thecompany on three occasions.

In 2016 she created Uirapuru forBallet do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, work successfullyreceived by both critics andaudience. She also created works forSão Paulo Companhia de Dança,Dutch National Ballet's School,School of American Ballet (as part ofthe New York ChoreographicInstitute) and the Liverpool Instituteof Performing Arts.

Daniela holds a first class degree inArts Management. She works withNEBT as Company Manager andBallet Mistress. She is also one ofNEBT's choreographers and createdworks for the company in 2014, 2015and 2016. She was recently cited as ‘new name to watch’ by DanceEurope Magazine’s Critics’ Choice for these works.

JESSICA EDGLEY Ballet Mistress

Born in Canada, Jessica trained atVancouver Goh Ballet Academy andAmerica’s Pacific Northwest BalletSchool on full scholarship, learning a variety of techniques includingRAD and with heavy focus onVaganova and Balanchine. She alsodanced with Pacific Northwest Balletcompany before embarking on a 12 year career, dancing leading and soloist roles for companies such as English National Ballet, NationalBallet of Ireland and NorwegianNational Ballet, where she alsochoreographed for their Ballet Lab.

Jessica then went on to receive herteaching diploma (PDTD) from theRoyal Academy of Dance in 2009and has since become Ballet Mistressfor and choreographed for The NewEnglish Ballet Theatre as well asteaching at various schools includingRoyal Academy of Dance (BA HonsBallet Education programme), NorthLondon Ballet Academy, CentralSchool of Ballet and London StudioCentre. She has also appeared as a guest teacher for schools acrossEurope and Canada.

As Ballet Mistress for New EnglishBallet Theatre, Jessica has workedwith a variety of choreographerssuch as Wayne Eagling, MichaelCorder, Ernst Meisner, Kristen McNally and George Williamson.

MATZ SKOOGGuest Teacher

Matz Skoog trained in Sweden andin the former Soviet Union andbecame a member of the RoyalSwedish Ballet, later joining EnglishNational Ballet as Principal Dancer.Matz has enjoyed an extensivedancing career in both classical andcontemporary dance. He has alsobeen a member of NetherlandsDance Theatre and Rambert DanceCompany. In 1996 Matz wasappointed Artistic Director of theRoyal New Zealand Ballet, a positionhe held until 2001. From 2001 to2005 he was Artistic Director ofEnglish National Ballet. Since 2006Matz has been perusing aninternational freelance career as ateacher, coach and artisticconsultant.

RICHARD BLACKFORD Music Director

The internationally acclaimedcomposer and conductor RichardBlackford was the first Director ofMusic at The Royal Ballet School,during which time he conducted in a Gala for Ninette de Valois at theRoyal Opera House. His many credits include productions at the Royal National Theatre, Brno Philharmonic (where he wasComposer/Conductor-In-Residence),Cheltenham Festival, BBC andClassic FM broadcasts. His workshave been recorded on the Decca,Warner, Sony and Nimbus labels. As well as works for the concert hall he has composed the music for over two hundred film scores,many of which have woninternational awards.

LINCOLN SELIGMAN Artist and Visual Art Advisor

Lincoln read law at Balliol Oxford but after several years working as ashipping lawyer in London and HongKong he jumped ship to become anartist. Initially he worked mainly onlarge murals around the world butmore recently has devoted much of his time to large scale suspendedsculptures and mobiles for highprofile atrium spaces, includingPhoenix City in Beijing for theChinese government. He also hasregular exhibitions of his paintings in London and New York and isdelighted to have the opportunity to extend his work to include musicand dance.

JENNA LEE

Jenna Lee was a dancer with EnglishNational Ballet for 12 years. She waspromoted to First Artist within theCompany in 2007, and to Soloist in2008. As well as performing majorroles with the Company, she hascreated many of English NationalBallet’s more adventurous small-scaledance works.

In 2006 Jenna choreographed BalletRocks to launch Sky HD. She has alsobeen involved in Swanning Around,a huge dance project which wasperformed at the Royal Albert Halland World Expo in Shanghai in 2010,has collaborated and toured withFlawless in 2012 and createdClassical Symphony for New EnglishBallet Theatre. It has been a long-held ambition of Jenna’s tochoreograph the complete The FourSeasons to the exciting music of MaxRichter, NEBT was delightedcollaborate to achieve the creationof this dynamic new ballet.

VALENTINO ZUCCHETTI

Born in Brescia, Italy, Valentinotrained at La Scala Ballet School inMilan and The Royal Ballet School,London, where he graduated in2007. He then worked with HeinzSpoerli’s Zurich Ballet for two yearsand Norwegian National Ballet forone year before joining The RoyalBallet in 2010 where he waspromoted to soloist in 2012.

During his dancing career he hascreated roles in ballets by HeinzSpoerli, David Dawson, Liam Scarlett and Christopher Wheeldonwhile working with many otherchoreographers including NachoDuato, Jivrí Kylián, John Neumeierand William Forsythe.

Valentino’s choreographic careerstarted at the Royal Ballet Schoolwhere he won the Ursula MoretonChoreographic Competition in 2006.Since then, he has created numerouspas de deux, solos and pieces forthe Royal Ballet’s Draft Works from2011 to 2015. In collaboration withthe composer, Philip Glass, and withthe assistance of the Royal OperaHouse Music Department, Valentinodeveloped the three movementballet Orbital Motion, produced byNew English Ballet Theatre withcostumes by Emma Bailey.

APRIL DALTON

April Dalton graduated from TheRoyal Welsh College of Music andDrama with a First Class (BA HONS)in Theatre Design, 2014, winning the‘Costume Design Award’. Aprilspecialises in Set and CostumeDesign for Theatre, Opera andDance. Most Notably, April wasshortlisted for the Linbury Prize forStage Design, 2015 and the BritishCouncil Ukrainian Prize, 2015.

Dance and opera credits include TheMagic Flute (RWCMD, ShermanTheatre- Cardiff), So Long As WeRemember (National DanceCompany Wales, Dance House-Cardiff) and Tracy (Edinburgh FringeFestival, Buttercup Venue,Underbelly.) April has also worked asa Milliner with credits includingEnglish Touring Opera, RoyalTheatre Bath and National TheatreWales, with two of her headpiecesbeing exhibited as part of MakeBelieve, Society of British TheatreDesign Exhibition, 2015.

ANDREW ELLIS

Andrew is a London-based lightingdesigner working in ballet,contemporary dance, musicaltheatre, plays and opera. He hasworked in large-scale theatre, onnational tours and in small-scale andfringe theatre.

Andrew has re-lit both his owndesigns and work by designersincluding Chris Davey, Michael Hulls,Natasha Chivers and Jackie Shemeshin venues across the UK andinternationally. He is an experiencedproduction manager and technicaldirector, having worked for NationalYouth Ballet for nine years and withBalletBoyz for four years. Andrewcurrently works as an associatedesigner for Michael Hulls and MikeRobertson. Regular clients includeNew English Ballet Theatre, UrdangAcademy, National Youth Ballet,English National Ballet School,BalletBoyz and Tring Park School ofPerforming Arts.

ANN CHRISTOPHER RA

Ann Christopher has worked as anon figurative sculptor for over 40years with numerous exhibitions,awards, commissions and works incollections in the UK and abroad.She was elected to the RoyalAcademy in1980.

Ann also makes series of drawings,three of which are being used byNEBT, a project she was excited tobe part of – Dance, like sculpture, is manipulating shape and space –creating moving sculpture. Dance is an expression of emotion, Ann’ssculptures and drawings are staticexpressions of responses to herexperiences both visual andemotional. The sculptor and thechoreographer are one and the same except they chose to usedifferent materials.

Her solo exhibition entitled All the Cages Have Open Doors at Pangolin London runs from 2 Nov – 23 December 2016www.annchristopher.co.uk

GIUDITTA BANCHETTI

Giuditta Banchetti is Italian and hasstudied at theScuola Accademica Danza SadFirenze. She has participated in theinternational exams of dance at theAcademy Princesse Grace of MonteCarlo and taken professional trainingat the Marika BesobrasovaFondation. Giuditta has performedwith Ariston Proballet Sanremo andthis is her first season with NEBT.

Dancers

GYӧRGY BAÁN

Gyӧrgy studies at the HungarianDance Academy (2000-2007) and thePalucca Schule Dresden (2007-2009).He then danced with the Ballet derOper Graz in Austria (2009-2011)and with the National Ballet ofPortugal (CNB) (2011-2012). He hasworked on numerous contemporaryprojects in Budapest during 2013and joined NEBT in 2013, he nowreturns for his second season.

GIULIO GALIMBERTI

Giulio Galimberti hails from Italy andstudied at the Pavlova Ballet Schoolin Bergamo. Giulio has performedacross Europe with Kharkhiv NationalBallet in the Ukraine, Opéra Nationalde Bordeaux, Teatro Regio Torino,Teatro alla Scala, and Pavlova BalletCompany, Teatro Sociale/DonizzattiBergamo. Giulio joined NEBT inAugust 2016.

MARIA MARTINS

Maria Martins was born in Porto,Portugal where she did most of herdance studies at Escola DomusDança, also attending theConservatorio Professional de DanzaCarmen Amaya, Spain, for a year.Maria won several prizes ininternational competitions. Maria hasbeen invited to dance in severalGalas, and has performed roles fromD. Quixote, Le Corsaire, SleepingBeauty, Swan Lake, Sylvia,Raymonda, Paquita, Harlequinade,Coppélia, Flames of Paris, WalpurgisNach, and also neoclassical andcontemporary repertoire. Maria isthrilled to be joining NEBT for thecurrent season.

HANNAH SOFO

Hannah is from Adelaide, Australiawhere she started dancing at the ageof 12. She then moved to Sydney tostudy at the Tanya Pearson ClassicalCoaching Academy. Hannah spentthree years at the Hamburg Ballet ofJohn Neumeier where shegraduated and moved to Poland todance with the corp de ballet of theGrand Theatre of Lodz, also dancingsoloist roles in Onegin, Don Quixoteand Martha Graham’s ‘The Rite ofSpring’. She has just danced with‘The Polunin Project’ and this is nowher second season with NEBT.

ELENA HIBBERD - Understudy

Elena Hibberd was born in Ottawa,ON in Canada and trained locally atthe School of Dance in Ottawa at theage of 10. She has trained privatelywith Evelyn Hart, Taina Morales andKlara Houdet as well as withCanada’s National Ballet School,École Supérieure de Ballet duQuébec, Boston Ballet School, andwas apart of the studio companywith Alberta Ballet. She moved toLondon, UK in 2016 and is delightedto be joining NEBT this season.

SARAH FARNSLEY

Sarah dances across artistic as wellas national boundaries. In 2016 sheperformed Swan Lake with EnglishNational Ballet at Royal Albert Hallbefore returning to Montreal for athird season of Casse Noisette withLes Grands Ballets Canadiens. Shewas a contemporary soloist withChicago Repertory Ballet and a silksartist with Aerial Dance Chicago.With the Louisville (Kentucky) Balletshe performed Val Caniparoli’s TheSeasons and The Nutcracker, Balanchine’s Theme &Variations and Serenade, plusstandards like Raymonda and LaBayadère. She has been a guestartist with Cerqua Rivera DanceTheatre as well as a guest SugarPlum and Dew Drop Fairy innumerous Nutcrackers. A citizen ofboth the US and the UK, Sarah isexcited to be living in London andmaking her debut with NEBT as partof their 2017 season.

MADELEINE GREEN

Madeleine was born in Hull. Shetrained at Elmhurst Ballet Schoolfrom 2008 – 2016 and at NorthernBallet’s Graduate Programme from2016 – 2017. In the last year, she hasperformed with Birmingham RoyalBallet in Romeo and Juliet, NorthernBallet in Beauty and the Beast andalso in English National Ballet’s SwanLake. Madeleine is thoroughlylooking forward to her first seasonwith NEBT. Participation in the 2017season has been made possible bythe Michelle Fox Bursary kindlydonated by the Edwin FoxFoundation.

SEAMUS WILKINSON

British born Seamus Wilkinsonstudied at English National BalletSchool and has performed with theEnglish National Ballet on UK Tour, inSummer Showcases and in London.This is his second season with NEBT.

ANNE LOVETT Piano

Anne was born in Normandy, France. She began pianolessons at the age of three. She then went on to study atthe Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris with Pierre Reach (a pupil of the great Artur Rubinstein) and Alberto Neuman(a rare student of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli). At theage of just eleven, she was invited to perform in concert atthe Festival International d’Annecy, and a year later at theFestival International de Montdauphin. Anne then movedto the UK to further her education at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Hamish Milne. She also studiedcomposition with Ruth Byrchmore, chamber music withMichael Dussek, and jazz with Dominic Alldis. She thenundertook a Masters in Composition at Kings College,London. During her academic years, Anne took part inmany masterclasses, including those run by Pierre-LaurentAimard, Roger Muraro, Miriam Solovieff, Andrei Diev, John O’Connor and Rolf Hind.

Since graduating, Anne has performed throughout Europe,in countries including Portugal, Norway, Italy, England, andFrance, as well as in Brazil. She has represented France and the UK in official engagements in both concerts andmasterclasses. She has been broadcast on ITV, the Germanstation ZDF, the radio station France Musique (RadioFrance group), French national TV network, France 3, and the European network, Mezzo.

Anne leads collaborative work with artists from variousavenues, from acting to dance companies. This includes an instrumental project with producer and programmer,James Sanger, well known for his million selling work with Dido, Keane, U2 and The Cure.

Anne’s deeply personal debut album Beyond (and Below)which comprises her own piano works was recentlyreleased to rave reviews on Discovery Records. She has justrecorded a new album engineered by multi-award winner,Mike Hatch (Grammys, BAFTAS and Gramophone Awards),which will include the first commercial release of Carl Vine’s‘Piano Sonata’. She has also just recorded the sonatas byFranck, Faure and Poulenc for the label Champs HillRecords with Grammy Award producer Raphael Mouterdeand violinist Giovanni Guzzo due to be released in January.

GILDAS QUARTET Strings

Praised for their 'refreshing approach' and 'excitingprecision', the Gildas Quartet are fast establishingthemselves as one of the most exciting young ensemblesto emerge in recent years.

The quartet are proud to be City Music Foundation Artists2015 and Junior Fellows at the Birmingham Conservatoire.They have performed to critical acclaim across the UK andEurope at major venues including the Purcell Room,Wigmore Hall, and live on BBC Radio 3. They will maketheir Bridgewater Hall debut later this year as part of theManchester Mid-day Concerts series. The quartet havefrequently been featured by the Park Lane Group YoungArtists scheme and are grateful for awards and supportfrom the Tunnell Trust, the Richard Carne Trust and theRoyal Northern College of Music.

Passionate performers of a hugely diverse repertoire, theGildas Quartet have had the privilege of working with bothColin Matthews and Sir Harrison Birtwistle on performingthe composers' most recent string quartets at London’sSouthbank Centre and The Forge. The quartet performedlive via video link in New York's Carnegie Hall for theAmerican Composers' Orchestra, giving the worldpremière of Ray Lustig's 'Latency Canons' which received a glowing 4-star review in the New York Times. Otherrecent projects have seen them give recitals at the TwoMoors Festival, Hampton Court Palace, the Conway Halland Purcell Room, and an extensive Scottish tour reachingfrom Edinburgh to Orkney. With generous support fromthe Britten Pears Foundation, the quartet is delighted tohave been able to commission a new quartet from PhilipCashian which will receive its premiere in 2017.

The Gildas Quartet has joined musicians such as AlexanderBaillie, Linda Merrick, the Medici Quartet, Timothy Orpenand Daniel Tong. Ongoing partnerships include quintetswith clarinettist Jack McNeill, soprano Raphaela Papadakisand pianist Sholto Kynoch, in addition to a number ofexciting projects with the New English Ballet Theatre.

JAMES PARRATT

James Parratt is from London,England and trained at CentralSchool of Ballet where he graduatedwith a BA Hons in ProfessionalDance and Performance. Whilst atCentral James competed in TheGeneé International Ballet Competitionwhere he was a finalist. In his secondyear of training, James performedwith Kidd Pivot in a piece calledPolaris, choreographed by CrystalPite at Sadlers Wells. During his thirdyear of training he was a part ofBallet Central where he toured theU.K. After graduating in 2016, Jamesmoved to Dresden, Germany wherehe was a Guest Apprentice atSemperoper Ballet and performed inKennith MacMillan’s Manon. Nowback in the U.K. James is about toembark upon his debuting season

MATTHIEU QUINCY

Matthieu Quincy was born in Parisand trained in Toulouse at theAcademie Besso Ballet. He had theopportunity to make his debut withNEBT in 2014, as his firstprofessional experience. He thenjoined Vanemuine Ballet where he isstill currently working and performedmany soloist roles in pieces such as:Ninasarvik by Mai Murdmaa, DonJuan by Giorgio Madia and TheSnowqueen by Silas Stubbs. This ishis third season with NEBT.

ALEXANDER NUTTALL

Alexander trained at Central School ofBallet and danced with New English Ballet Theatre before joining Estonian National Ballet to work with ThomasEdur and Agnes Oaks, where hedanced roles in all of the majorrepertoire. Returning to London in2016 he worked with New EnglishBallet Theatre dancing works byValentino Zucchetti, MarcelinoSambé, Kristen McNally and DanielaCardim before pursuing otherprojects. His repertoire includesCranko’s Onegin, Edur’s Swan Lake,Sleeping Beauty and La Bayadere,MacMillan’s Manon and Hynd’sCoppelia. Most recently, Alexanderdanced in ‘Project Polunin’ at SadlersWells with Sergei Polunin andNatalia Osipova..
