"WORK BEE" THIS SUNDAY

In preparation for our upcoming Southern Union evaluation, FLEC is hosting a "Work Bee" this Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 8:00 a.m.to 12:00 p.m. Please come and have some fun while helping us tidy up our campus. Please bring your own gloves, rakes, pruningshears, etc. FLEC will provide spray bottles, rags, sponges, paper towels, and trash bags. Thank you in advance for your help in makingFLEC shine.H1NI FLU SHOTS AVAILABLE

Centra Care will be here at FLEC on Wednesday January 27, 2010, from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. to administer the H1N1 Vaccination.Information regarding the vaccine as well as consent forms are being sent home with your student today. If you cannot attend the eventwith your children for any reason, the consent form must be filled out and signed by the parent/legal guardian before the event date. Wewill accept the forms without the parents’ attendance as long as it is signed. The cost will be $10 per vaccination.

SCHOOL EVALUTION

The accreditation team will be on our campus on Sunday, January 31, 2010 through February 3, 2010. We pray for a successful andproductive evaluation report.

On Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 4:30 p.m., the evaluation committee will share their report with the faculty, staff, parents andBoard members. We are encouraging you to attend this very important meeting!

SOUTHERN UNION SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

The Southern Union Conference sent two representatives for the School of Excellence Award to our campus on Tuesday andWednesday to assess whether we are prepared for the actual evaluation visit on February 1, 2010.

In preparation for the final visit, parents and students will be randomly interviewed. As such, we are encouraging all team members,parents and students to learn the acronyms for the Southern Union School of Excellence Award.

The Health Fair will be from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Forest Lake Church Youth Center. Bring thewhole family! There will be a bounce house and scavenger hunt with prizes for the kids and door prizes drawn every 30 minutes, with agrand prize of a Nintendo Wii.

FLEC SCHOOL NIGHT WITH THE ORLANDO MAGIC

Join us for Forest Lake Education Center’s 3rd Annual night with the Orlando Magic! Show your schoolspirit on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the Orlando Magic vs. Detroit Pistons game at 7:00 p.m. inthe Amway Arena. If you arrive early, you will have the opportunity to hear the FLEC Choir perform theNational Anthem in front of 17,000 fans. The first 40 students to sell 10 tickets will get to high-five theOrlando Magic Players. Tickets start from $22 each. This offer is good for students, faculty, staff, familymembers, friends and neighbors—everybody! When you purchase the tickets through FLEC, OrlandoMagic will donate money to our school. AFTERCARE "FRIDAY" HOURS

Due to daylight savings time, Aftercare hours will be changing. Effective NOW through March 5, 2010, Aftercare will be closing at 5:15p.m. ON FRIDAY’S ONLY. Please make arrangements to pick up your child by 5:15 p.m.

This prayerful decision was made to allow time to prepare for Sabbath observance. While our goal is to honor this special day of theweek that God bestows upon us and to receive His blessings, we recognize that this may present a hardship for some families. Pleasedo not hesitate to contact us if our new hours present a problem for you. As always, we are here for you.

FOOD ALLERGIES

On behalf of our students with food allergies, we are requesting that if you are hosting, sponsoring a party or sending food to school thatyou label foods that contain nuts, peanut oil or peanut butter. As a school family, we have put controls in place to continue to make FLECa safe place for all our students.

HELP OUR TEACHERS!

Many classrooms are being disrupted between 2:45-3:00 p.m. and we need your help. It is our desire for teachers to utilize class timeeffectively and would like to request that disruptions be kept to a minimum. Also, if you would like to see a teacher we ask that you waituntil after dismissal, call or e-mail for an appointment. The FLEC Receptionist is happy to deliver messages, lunches, books and papersto your child. Thank you so much for your cooperation in this matter.

DISMISSAL

Remember school is out at 3:15 pm. Please note that it is disruptive to learning when parents come to theclassroom door at 2:50 or 3:00 to get their child. Please be patient and wait till the class is dismissed, youcan meet your child as the class leaves the classroom. Thank you for understanding and helping theteachers utilize those last minutes of the day.

Choose a Lane - Please remember to be extremely careful and patient when driving on campus. As youturn into the school drive please use the right lane if you are picking up from behind the school (5ththrough 8th grader riders) and the left lane if you are picking up children in front of the school (Pre-Kthrough 4th grade and multi-grade riders). Remember to be considerate; yield to your neighbor andpractice patience. Safety is our number one concern.

Rain Dismissal – We continue to tweak our rain dismissal procedure. Our goal is to safely completedismissal in 30 minutes or less from when the dismissal bell rings. Be assured that your child will not besent to Aftercare as long as there are still cars in line to pick-up.

PLEASE REFER TO PREVIOUS WEEKS FOR INFORMATION ON OUR H1N1 PROTOCOL AND FLU.

LOWER YOUR CELL PHONE BILL

The FLEC Handbook states: “Cell phones must be powered off during school hours: 7:50 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Monday –Thursday, and 7:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. They must not be visible during class, in the halls, or anywhere oncampus during school hours.”

There will now be a $25.00 fine for any cell phone visible during the school day. Students can use school phones withteacher’s permission and parents may leave messages with the front office if they need to reach their student.

INTRAMURALS BASKETBALL GRADES 1-3

Teams and schedules were posted on the FLEC website. Go to myflec.com to see which team you are on and which days you play.Games will begin at 3:30 pm and end at 4:10 pm. Weare praying for the Spirit to move our parents to renew their commitment to SDA education..... To understand the value it holds for alifetime for our kids.... What Will The Weekend Entail?March 19 - Friday Vespers- FLEC gym – evening will include: Speaker - Kay Rizzo, former teacher now inspirational speaker;testimonies from those who have been impacted by our schools, teen skit and musical selections from our SDA schools.March 20 - Sabbath Program – Sabbath will include: Speaker - Shane Anderson, Pastor and Author of “How to Kill Seventh-dayAdventist Education;” music from our SDA schools; testimony or commitment expression from our pastors from our constituent churches.March 20 - Saturday afternoon parent-values meeting – Seminar focusing on what parents need to do in the home to partner with ourschools and churches in maintaining a commitment to our values of Christian education.March 20 - Saturday evening educators meeting – Shane Anderson – will gleam elements from his book and motivate those who areserving our schools to continue the charge and help regain the commitment from parents.March 21 - Sunday Miriam Kittrell 5K Race for Christian Education – FLEC – a race for worthy student funds, removing financial barriersto our education.

PARENTS IN PRAYER:We meet every Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. in the Aftercare room next to Chris Carey's office in the library. Please join us as we upliftour students, teachers, staff, administration and our entire FLEC family in prayer! Our locked "Prayer Request Mailbox" is in the gym onthe wall in front of Coach McCoy's office.
