THE VUE TENNIS LUMINAIRE

THE FIRST LED TENNIS COURT LIGHT DESIGNED FOR THE DIMENSIONS OF A TENNIS COURT

Sometimes it takes one to know one. In this case it’s about a lighting industry employee who is passionate about tennis who had the desire to create the best LED tennis court optical system to date. The VUE Tennis Luminaire and its “Starpower” optical system are the culmination of dozens of years of effort and experience on the court and in the lighting laboratory. The VUE and its optical system are designed by Bill Hein a former Top 20 USTA Nationally Ranked Tennis Player who is also the President of National Lighting Solutions.

The Vue Series has a specific LED optical system designed to the unique 120 x 60 dimensions of a Tennis

Court. We combine our Star Power optical system with our unsurpassed knowledge and experience of

tennis court lighting. Give us a call and we will design and manufacture the best possible system at the

lowest possible cost with the least amount of energy and maintenance. We manufacture the entire fixture

in the United States as well as our poles and mounting arms which can complete your tennis court lighting

system.

In the Brochure you will learn why it is now time to convert your existing light system or construct your new

tennis lighting system with VUE luminaires. The VUE is the only LED tennis court luminaire that complies with

the American Sports Builder Association “PPA” light level and uniformity requirements at standard pole

heights without the need to tilt.

(SPR) STAR POWER OPTIC

• The VUE Produces the Highest and most Uniform light levels in the industry for the most common Mount-

ing Heights ranging from 18’ to 22’ foot without tilt.

• The VUE is the only LED fixture to accomplish a True American Sports Builder Association Class One PPA

Lighting Uniformity Requirement with only 8 fixtures.

• The VUE is the best LED fixture at controlling glare because it requires no tilt, the reflector is made from

95 percent Diffused aluminum substrate, and its LEDs are positioned deep within the housing so they

won’t be seen during play.

• The VUE is engineered and manufactured to the highest Reliability Level with respect to lifetime and

performance utilizing the best possible electronics protected with an impact resistant safety glass and

refrigerator gasket.

• The VUE is a Great Looking Low Profile traditionally designed fixture which blends with any country club

or residential setting.

• The team behind the VUE brings some of the most tennis court lighting experience to the table in terms

of the number of prestigious installations designed or sold over the past 20 years.

• We take Pride in every court we design. Our goal is to produce champions at every level and provid-

ing a product in which players can reach their goals and compete and teach at the highest level they

desire.

The VUE Tennis Series is the Best Fixture for Professional, Competitive, and Recreational Tennis

What are the Benefits of the VUE LED over its Competitor’sLess Glare & Greater Reliability

Before the VUE there were few if any LED fixtures which were practical, efficient, and effective for tennis.

Most of the existing fixtures had plastic lensed optics which actually stick out below the bottom of the

fixture in which hundreds of points of light and glare can be seen during the point. Plastic lenses have

been known to fail. Plastic lenses also face the possibility of oxidizing which disrupts the light pattern and

prevents heat from escaping which decreases life and increases rates of depreciation. Plastic lenses must

be perfectly installed and gasketed so that water does not run down the face of the fixture and short out

the electronics. Some companies now glue their plastic lenses directly onto the circuit board. This is also

unreliable as plastic expands and contracts on a daily basis due to the extreme temperature differences

which can eventually cause cracking, oxidation, and possible detachment. This is why the VUE does

not utilize plastic lenses. The VUE recesses its LED’s far into the housing so they cannot be seen eliminating

extraneous glare and are protected with a single proven glass lens like tens of thousands of fixtures before it.

The Optical Advantage of the Starpower Reflector SystemNo other LED companies have designed an optic or reflector specific for tennis. They might use a car

dealership front row optic which has a very powerful but narrow strip of light which must be tilted in

most cases in order to reach the center of the court. Often times other manufacturers need to perform

their photometrics at grade instead of three feet up because that is the only way they can turn in a

photometric readout which might be accepted on a project. (Players know that most shots are struck

between waist level and above. Players realize that the court surface might be lit, but the ball is not when

it goes over the net and travels through a shadow of darkness.) The Starpower Optical system has a very

thick and powerful light pattern which enables it to function beautifully at low mounting heights with all of its

photometrics performed at three feet above grade which is where the ASBA requires photometrics for tennis to

be performed.

Starpower Optics Specifically Designed for the Full Dimensions of a Tennis Court

Other LED companies talk about their high lumen packages. The total number of lumens coming out of a

fixture are meaningless when it comes to tennis and most other niche lighting applications. It’s where the

lumens go that counts. The companies with the highest lumens generally have no optics over their LEDs

and light goes everywhere including upwards and behind the fixture. The Starpower optical system takes

into account the dimensions of a 120 x 60 typical court and makes sure that the lumens go in the right

places and are responsible for their own zone.

Starpower Optics Eliminate the Need to Tilt the Fixtures and are Player, Spectator, Neighborhood, and Dark Sky Friendly

Other companies have to tilt their fixtures in order to get the proper light levels in the right places on the

court. Tilting LED’s is a Cardinal Sin. LED’s are like laser beams. If you tilt them, they will blind the players, the

spectators, and the neighbors. There could be complaints and the lights will need to be angled downward

where the focus of light will be on the doubles alley instead of the middle of the court. The Starpower

optical system requires no tilting and as such is glare free, Dark Sky, and Neighborhood Friendly. We are

committed to the International Dark Sky Association and have even named our optical system the Starpower

system because we believe that artificial lighting should not impede a beautiful dark sky in which thousands

of stars should be able to be seen and enjoyed by all.

The Freedom to Turn Off or Dim the Lights at any Time

The VUE is instant on and instant restrike. No more waiting for the lights to warm up. There needs to be no

more fear of turning the lights off and then on again a few minutes later. The VUE can be ordered with

timed motion sensors which automatically shut off the lights when no one is present. All VUE fixtures are

dimmable. One can dial in how much light and energy is being used on the court at any time. And the

lights can be dimmed down low for parties where only low levels of light may be desired.

Paybacks & Income Generation

Depending on what the goal is the VUE offers the highest paybacks in the industry. If the goal is for a

municipality to equal their existing light levels without decreasing light levels then the VUE can take a

typical 1000 watt shoebox, flood, or sport lighter and equal the output with approximately 250 watts which

is a savings of 80 percent per year after transformer losses are taken into consideration.

Or a club and park facility that charges for court time can retrofit their typical 1000 watt fixtures with 450

watts can save 60 percent of their energy and double their light levels and increase revenues and activity.

If the Club wants to retrofit their club with 600 watts they can save 45 percent energy and triple their light

levels.

If the club wants 90 – 100 foot candles of perfect illumination they can double up and mount twin 450 watt

fixtures side by side saving 15 percent energy while increasing their lighting levels four fold.

The ASBA and the Lighting Level Criteria’s for Professional, Tournament, University, Club, High School, and Recreational Park Play

The ASBA stands for the American Sports Builder Association. It is an organization which works with the USTA

in determining the building criteria for new facilities and facility upgrades for a number of items including

outdoor lighting levels. Below is the lighting criteria determined by the level of play expected at a type

of facility in terms of minimum required light level thresholds and lighting uniformity. Lighting uniformity

is important because the more evenly lit the entire tennis court is, the bigger the court appears to the

participant and spectators. Lighting is very quantitative. You can actually see a shadow if the maximum

measured light level on the court is double what the minimum light level is no matter how bright the court is.

The PPA stands for the Primary Playing Area and is not just the area within the base lined and doubles lines.

It is a much larger rectangle that extends 10 feet beyond each base line and six feet beyond each doubles

line. This is the area where just about all of the points are primarily played. The ASBA defines the PPA by

specifying the exact points which are critical to play and require calculation with measurements occurring

approximately every five to ten feet along the perimeter of the rectangle as well as the critical points inside

the lines along the net, down the center of the court and the service lines.

The VŪe Series is a collaboration of form, optics, and thermal management reducing energy costs, utilizing the least amount of poles and fixtures per project meeting IES minimum foot candle levels, and extending maintenance cycles at a competitive price. The VŪe has specific optical systems designed for Parking Lots, Roadways, Auto Dealerships, Tennis Courts, and Sports Field Lighting. The VŪe's optical system is called “Star Power.” The flexibility and power of the “Star Power” optics enables the VŪe to gain a distinct advantage over its competitors for almost any distribution pattern. The system features 95 percent optical material which goes through a linear diffusion process to stretch the virtual image of the diode both magnifying it and creating a large range of angular flux both horizontally and vertically. This added range increases the width of the light pattern at a greater distance compared to optical systems which rely on refraction principles using plastics. Star Power optics are also the most reliable, other plastic optics will oxidize over time as well as tend to lose its seal while exposed long term to the elements.

Product FeaturesThe “VŪe Series” is the Best Value Outdoor Lighting Solution

• Produces 100 lumens per System Watt of controlled illumination.• Based on wattage, fixture can weigh from 17 to 32 pounds. • Has an End of Life modular efficient chip upgrade solution, which takes
