Introduction

PBN procedures are being published throughout Europe in all

phases of flight: RNAV5 routes, RNP1 or RNAV1 SID/STAR, RNP

APCH… One day, they might even become the only instrument

procedures available.

The Map Tool illustrates PBN deployment status and plans in ECAC

with maps and deployment evolution graphs.

This also includes information on other instrument approach

procedures with vertical guidance (ILS, GLS)

With the PBN Map Tool:

Progress against publication objectives set in the European

Commission Implementation Regulation 2018/1048 dated 18th July

2018 can be monitored.

Airspace users can assess their network of operations against their

PBN airborne capabilities.

The Map is currently focused on PBN final approach procedures.

Adding PBN SID/STAR procedures in the map is under assessment.

Step 1:

Choose the Date :

- Current Status (implementation status

“as of today”), or

- Situation as end of “a year” (any year

from 2012, when implementation

monitoring by EUROCONTROL

started)

Press the « Update » button

The colour of the airport symbol on the map (Black, Grey, Orange,

Blue, Green) depends on the implementation status of the approach

type selected at the selected date

Instrument runway only are taken into account, a few Non-

Instrument runways are also depicted if they have with publication

plans

Step 3: Choose the Airport types (1) (Airport, Airport/Heliport or Heliport) and

the Implementation status (2) for airports you want to see on the map

Step 4:

Use this Search function if you are

looking for specific airports. Search

by:

Country Name

Airport Name

ICAO code, or

IATA code (if one exists)

Detailed Airport information (1/2)

Detailed airport information is available:

- by clicking on the airport symbol on the Map or

- from the list of Airports ( )

- One line per runway end, one

column for each approach type

- One Status and Year for each

approach type

Detailed Airport information (2/2)

The detailed airport information window will be slightly different for

users authorised to propose changes for this airport:

- Change proposals

which have not been

approved yet are

summarised in a

dedicated tab

- Propose changes to the

data here (see also slide 26)

Statistics (= Deployment evolution graphs) (1/5)

Statistics can be obtained for a selection of Countries, Airports or lists of Airports

defined by the user (User list / see slide 17)

18

Statistics will be generated for those items appearing in the column on the right.

Items can be added to (Add) or removed from (Remove) the column on the right.

One, several, None or All values can be moved from one column to the other.

Statistics will be generated for:- One Approach type or aggregated type

- Runways Ends or Airports

- A Period

- All airports including those for military use only (excluded by default)

- PCP airports only

Statistics on Runway ends (4/5)

23

The graph shows the evolution of the deployment over time.

The curve in green illustrates how deployment evolved up until today. From

then, the curve becomes orange and illustrates deployment forecast according

plans captured in the map tool (Y-axis from Bottom to Top on the left hand side of the graph).

Holding the mouse over any part of the curve shows the status in numbers.

A curve in grey appears at the top of the window. This illustrates those runways

ends/airports where the approach type is “impossible” to implement (Y-axis from Top to

Bottom on the right hand side of the graph).

The gap between the grey and the orange curves gives an indication of the

number of runway ends without publication plans.

Statistics on Airports (5/5)

24

Graphs for Airports are a little more complex than those for runway ends.

An airport can have several runways, therefore it can be partially or fully covered

(or planned to be covered) by a particular approach type.

Before “today”, the blue (“partially implemented”) is added on top of the green

(“fully implemented”). From “today”, the yellow (“planned partially implemented”)

is added on top of the orange (“planned fully implemented”).

On this example, no airport is set to “impossible” (grey line is at the top – 0%).

On the 01/01/2022, 75% of the airports are planned to be “fully implemented”

and 25% of them planned to be “partially implemented”.
