in the Holland Heineken House in Richmond yesterday. The two visited the Vitality

Campus, restaurant The Lodge and the Medal Ceremony Hall. They told The Daily

Dutch that their three daughters, Amalia (6), Alexia (4) and Ariane (2), enjoy being

Te Australian boxing kangaroo had the privile-ge to be named as the rst incident during theseOlympic games. Te brown colored mammal withred boxing gloves stands for the ghting spirit Au-stralia has. It was shown on a ag, two storeys high,in the Olympic Village.

According to the IOC, the Australians had to re-move the ag, because the mascot is a restrictedtrademark. But dont mess with Aussies kangaroo. Its still hanging in the air, and keeps ghting.Visitors from the Holland Heineken House alreadymet the Dutch mascot. jemp, the dynamic ame,

Team Canada started out a little bit nervous

in their rst Olympic game. But in the end, the

sold-out crowd in Canada Hockey Place had

enough to cheer for. Jarome Iginla and Dany

Heatley scored two goals each in the 8-0 shu-tout over Norway. The credits for the shutout

belonged to goalie Roberto Luongo, who made

15 saves. Canadas next game is against Switzer-

    land on February 18.

was also present at the summer Olympics in Bjing. In Vancouver, jemp hopes he can re up t

Dutch athletes to great heights. You will not him that much on ags, but in the Holland Hneken House he will be present at every medal lebration.

And how about Canada? Looking at the seared in the rst hockey game against Norway, tCanadians certainly know what to wear. For Olympics, however, VANOC decided to use thdierent mascots. First, there is Quatchi, a yousasquatch who lives in the mysterious forests Canada. Ten theres Sumi. He shows the dierevariety of Canada with a hat of orca whale, wingsthe thunderbird and the legs of a black bear.Te third mascot for the 2010 games is Migayoung sea bear who lives in the ocean of BritColumbia. ogether, the three mascots show all dierences that Canada has to oer.

Four years after her crash in the Turin nal,

snowboard cross racer Maelle Ricker avenged

herself. On Cypress Mountain, she won

Canadas second gold medal of these Olympic

    games, beating Deborah Anthonioz from

France and Olivia Nobs from Switzerland.Ricker, a North Vancouver native, became the

rst woman to win gold on home soil, two days

after Alexandre Bilodeau won the rst gold for

    Canada.

    Yesterday German Magdalena Neuner and

Swede Bjorn Ferry won gold medals on

biathlon persuit. Problems occurred during the

start, when game ofcials sent different skiers

away to early or to late. People spoke about

    By Twan Clarijs

How is it to have a medal celebration in the

    Holland Heineken House? Ruben Houkes

knows. The judoka won at the summer

Olympics in 2008 a bronze medal in his

weight class under 60 kilograms. Right now,Houkes is in Vancouver to visit the winter

    Olympics.

What have you been going lately?

Mainly, I watched a lot of speed skating. Ive seen

the 5.000, 3.000 and 500 meter races. Sven Kra-

mer was skating very well. Ive got a lot of respect

for him; being under so much pressure and still

    become the new Olympic champion.

Could you compare the Holland Heineken

House in Richmond with the one in Beijing?

Like Beijing, this place is enormous. it just looks a

little bit different. Of course, I went to the medal

celebration of Sven Kramer. I wanted to see if

the atmosphere was the same. And I must say, I

watched with great pleasure. The atmosphere was

    terric.

If you could make the decision, who would

you like to drink a beer with?

Thats got to be Sven Kramer, denitely. For win-

ning Olympic gold. But Im about to leave soon,

and he still has to compete in three races, so I

think its gonna be tough to make that arrange-

ment. Perhaps we could meet in the Netherlands.
