Welcome to the first edition of our new

alumni magazine, the Crummer Chronicle!

In the past we have had a few different

types of publications, but this new one

is designed exclusively for all of us.

With an ever-growing alumni network,

currently at 6,017 strong, the goal of the

Alumni Association is to continue to build

connections for alumni across the globe.

In this publication you will find important

information regarding events and activities

across the country, updates about your classmates and fellow

alumni, as well as articles written by and about alumni,

students and faculty.

This inaugural issue highlights our Honor roll of donors who

contributed to the school in 2009-2010. In future issues you can

expect to see some interesting features on a variety of important

business topics. The Alumni Association is committed to providing

you with valuable information and continual opportunities to

connect to the alumni network. If you would like to learn more about

how you can be a part of this publication, please visit mba.rollins.

edu/alumni/magazine to see how you can share your story.

on behalf of the Alumni Association, thank you for supporting

The newest rollins mBA program welcomed its inaugural

class of 16 students in July of 2010. This program changes

the way that the Crummer school provides the mBA

education, combining distance learning with intense in

class experiences one weekend a month. The program

offers an integrated curriculum, and courses are team-

taught by Crummer faculty. various business disciplines

are combined to give students a more comprehensive

understanding of all aspects of business.

on April 30, 2011 the last cohort of Crummer Corporate/

executive mBAs will cross the stage to receive their

diplomas. originally called the executive mBA, the

program scheduled students to meet one full day a week

alternating between fridays and saturdays. It began in

1982, graduating 19 students in the spring of 1984, and

will conclude with 21 graduates from the CmBA28 class.

over the 29 years of its lifespan, 694 students earned

their mBA through this challenging path that allowed

mid-level and higher professionals to earn an mBA

while still fully employed. In the future, students who

As the Alumni Association launches a new magazine in 2011, I wanted to thank all of

you who had such an impact in 2009 and 2010. There were accolades from business

publications, remarkable students earning their degrees, unprecedented involvement

by the alumni, and the loss of a prominent member of the Crummer family.

Dr. edward moses made a difference in the growth and quality of the Crummer

graduate school through his efforts as Dean and Professor. We miss his spirit and his

passion and we know that the school would not have received the recognition it has

earned without his early involvement and vision. on behalf of the faculty and staff,

we are deeply honored by those alumni and friends who have generously supported

the creation of a new scholarship in his name to ensure his legacy.

In the following pages you will find the names of alumni, friends, faculty, staff members, and businesses that

have generously contributed in 2009 and 2010. Your gifts are reminders that the efforts of everyone at

Crummer are important to our alumni and friends and we strive to be worthy of your support.

Thank you.

financially and of ourselves. As a Crummer Alumna, it’s a joy to participate in the

success of other students through the mentoring program. Watching them step

out into their new careers and knowing that you can enhance that journey through

your personal experience and education is truly rewarding. Contributing financially

The strength and reputation of a business school is, in large part, a reflection of the relationships it maintains with leading corporations. since its founding, the Crummer school has forged numerous intellectual and educational partnerships with corporations and foundations. In turn, they have invested substantially in the school. We extend our sincere appreciation to those corporations and foundations which have made a contribution during the past year.

Currently, students enrolled in

the Professional mBA (PmBA)

program generally have two paths

for financial support: their place

of employment if there is a tuition

through self-financing including

scholarships might be a third

path, but to date there is only one

scholarship for the PmBA program,

created in 2006 by lisa and Charles “Chick” gregg ’92mBA.

Inc. are championing the creation of this new scholarship.

Patrick states: “It’s pretty simple for me. I give to Crummer

because Crummer connected to me. The first connection

occurred as a student in the classroom with challenging

course work, rigorous curriculum and an mBA degree

from one of the nation’s finest institutions. After leaving

Crummer, the connection was maintained through

newsletters, announcements and campaigns. I soon found

a way to connect my work and community to a Crummer

Domestic Consulting Program Project and continue to

attend on campus leadership seminars and various alumni

functions whenever possible. And now, most importantly,

I give back because I am ready, willing, and able to

support the next generation of mBA’s get the most

out their Crummer connection.”

The goal is $50,000. over the course of two years, ron

and Patrick will be working with the Alumni Board and the

development office to contact others to support this new

connection to current and future students. In the event

that the minimum endowment level is not reached, the

funds that have been raised will be made available through

the student services office to PmBA students. In either

situation, all donations to this fund will be directed

to current and future students who are working

full time and taking classes in the evenings.

Details on how the fund will be distributed are still

being determined.

Consider if this is the kind of fund that appeals to you.

It has a direct impact on students — perhaps even

a student like you.

Ken AlloWAY ’92mBA

Ken Alloway

is one of the

nicest alumni you

will ever meet,

with a strong

commitment to

his family, career

and alma mater.

As a student at

Crummer, Ken

worked as a

design engineer

at fmC Technologies. since graduating

from the Professional mBA program in

2002, Ken’s career in energy technology

has taken him to ABB Inc. where he

serves as the global Product & marketing

manager. ABB is a global leader in power

and automation technology with offices

in more than 100 countries. As you can

imagine, Ken’s work requires travel to all

pats of the world when not at his office

in lake mary, florida.

Ken enjoys staying involved with the

school. He served on the Alumni

Board for 8 years, and now continues

to be involved by speaking to classes,

mentoring students, and contributing to

the Crummer Annual fund. Ken enjoys

spending time with his wife stacey and

watching his two boys play various

sports. Ken and his family live in

Central florida.

DAvID PArrIsH, ’93mBA

When David Parrish decided to return to

school for a fourth degree, he chose the

Crummer graduate school of Business

based on his interview experience with

Dr. edward moses. not only was the school

an easy drive from his busy downtown law

firm, but the flexibility of the executive

mBA classes meant that David could

continue to practice law while earning an

mBA. However, he tells the story of how his

study team made a tremendous difference

in the quality of the program for him, with

each member bringing strengths that

supported the others.

David credits his experiences at Crummer

with the growth of his law firm, beginning

with the increased use of computers —

his firm being one of the first law offices

to adopt new technology in Central

florida. now, he spends as much of his

time as he can with his family, especially

his grandchildren. However, David still

considers himself a “walking chamber

of commerce” for the Crummer school

as he encourages others in the community

to pursue their mBAs at rollins.

sAnDeeP sIngH, P.e. ’92mBA

sandeep singh

grew up in India

and earned his

undergraduate

degree in Civil

engineering

from the Indian

Institute of

Technology in

new Delhi. Today,

he is the

President of his

company, AvCon, Inc., a consulting firm

specializing in the planning, design, and

development of public roads, bridges,

airports, transit systems, and utility

systems. AvCon was founded in 1988

with only five employees originally

focusing on the aviation industry.

Despite his responsibilities to AvCon,

sandeep decided to return to school and

earn his second master’s degree, this time

an mBA (the first was an ms in structural

engineering from university of California,

Berkeley). An excellent student and a

leader in his class, sandeep graduated

with honors and as a member of Beta

gamma sigma in 1992. His business grew

and achieved new levels of success. since

2001, the company has grown

approximately 10% each year, now has

50 employees and offices in orlando and

niceville, florida, and in Charlotte, north

Carolina. As an alumnus, sandeep has

been a generous supporter of the school

and a resource for faculty and students.

gAIleon THomPson ’01HH ’03mBA

It is no wonder

gaileon

Thompson is

president of

the Alumni

Association. As

a dual graduate

of rollins, she

received her

undergraduate

degree from

the Hamilton

Holt school in International Affairs in 2001

and then graduated from the Accelerated

mBA program in 2003. gaileon’s career

in banking has quickly taken her up

the ranks at sunTrust Bank. she has

recently accepted a position in Atlanta,

georgia where she is now the group vice

President managing the bank’s Business

Deposits Product management team.

gaileon often credits her rollins mBA

with providing her the tools to succeed,

and has chosen to stay involved with the

school as a way of giving back. gaileon

joined the Crummer Alumni Board in

2005, and currently serves as president

of the board, the first alumnus to manage

the alumni association from outside the

state of florida. gaileon’s contributions

to the school extend beyond her board

involvement; she is a financial supporter

of both the school and the Alumni Board,

and has also served as a mentor to

students and speaker/judge for various

classes. gaileon currently lives in Atlanta,

georgia, and enjoys getting to know her

new city, along with supporting the launch

of Crummer’s new Atlanta City Club. Al

This past fall, the Crummer Alumni Association launched 10 City Clubs across the country. The purpose of the City Clubs

is simple: allow alumni to meet, network, and create new friends and business contacts right in their own backyards. With

6,017 Crummer alumni scattered across the united states and abroad, the Clubs will provide a variety of opportunities
