FUND RAISING

MTPA PROVINCIAL FINALS SHOWThe MTPA Finals will be held at the Keystone Centre on September 17 & 18, 2010. We are

looking at a similar format to last year. This should be an exciting weekend with lots of action!

Clint Masse has stepped up and will chair the fund raising committee for theMTPA in 2011. As discussed at the Annual General Meeting, the Board has beeninvestigating new ways to raise money for the MTPA. We will continue to askmembers to sell cattle numbers for advertising. The advertising package is beingrevisited and will be sent out early next month to every member. If everyone soldone cattle number we would be in great shape. We are also working on the detailsof a raffle to raise additional funds. This will be a cash raffle so they should be andeasy sell. Clint is working on the details and application to Manitoba Lotteries.

Every member will be required to sell at least one book of 20 tickets valued at$5 each. The $100 for the book will be part of the membership fee. If a member sellsall the tickets, he/she will recoup all the cost. Exceptions will be members under 18and brand new members. In this case, he/she will be asked to attempt to selltickets, but not required to pay for them up front. The complete details will comeout the next newsletter. In the mean time, please start to think about potentialbuyers of cattle numbers. Your help is much needed to make this year a success. Ifwe don’t raise enough money by April, it will impact our awards as well as addedmoney to shows.

TENTATIVE HRA SCHEDULE.... 2011

I hope everyone has survived the winter, it looks like spring is hopefully on its way – although that may only mean trading inyour winter boots for your rubber boots!

Over the past few months, the HRA Board of Directors has been working very hard at preparing for our 2011 rodeo season. I would like to welcome Souris to our tentative rodeo schedule for our 2011 season on July 9th and 10th. We are very excited

to be working with this wonderful committee and look forward to visiting their community. Mark your calendars now, as I’mcertain the exciting rodeo action combined with the other excellent events they have planned for their fair will produce a re-markable weekend!

Carman Rodeo Committee and the community of Carman will once again be hosting the Heartland Rodeo Finals in 2011,on September 10th and 11th. Last year’s finals were a definite success, and we are eager to return to their community for an-other first-class event!

Hopefully in the next months to come we will have more exciting announcements for our upcoming season. Stay tuned!

Holly Gardiner, President

Ashley Potvin, 2010HRA High Point Cow-girl, competes in boththe Ladies Barrel Racingand the Goat Tyingevents. She has beencompeting on the rodeocircuit for 17 years.Ashley has been a mem-ber of the HRA since thebeginning of the HRA,competing in the 1996season. She said thatpretty much from thetime she started walkingher parents had her inthe saddle.

Packin’ Six, or betterknown as “Six” has been a stellar partner for Ashley inthe rodeo arena. Ashley has been running Six for about7 years now, and he gives 110% every time he runsthrough the arena gate. He will be 14 this year. Diggerwas Ashely’s very first barrel horse, and at 21 years old,is still no stranger to the rodeo arena and has competedin nearly every event. Ashley used Digger in Goat Tying. Now retired, Ashley and her family are hoping to getsome great babies out of her, as she truly is one in a mil-lion!

When Ashley isn’t in the rodeo arena, she also enjoysplaying hockey, training horses, and spending time withher family. She is currently attending the Brandon University and is a first yearstudent in the Business Administration Program.

Ashley wanted to send the following message to Delmar Commodities, thesponsor of the 2010 HRA High Point Cowgirl saddle:

“As the recipient of the High Point Cowgirl saddle, I would like to send mygreatest thanks to Delmar Commodities for sponsoring the saddle. It was a greathonor to receive this saddle, and I will use it with pride. I would also like tothank Delmar for sponsoring the Ladies Barrel Racing Year End Runner-up sad-dle pad. Without great sponsors, like Delmar, events with prizes like this wouldnot be possible. We really appreciate your generosity!”

Where in this world can man find nobility without pride, friendshipwithout envy, beauty without vanity? Here, where grace is lacedwith muscle, and strength by gentleness confined. He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity. Thereis nothing so powerful, nothing less violent; there is nothing so quick, nothing more patient. Our past has been borne on his back. All our history is his industry:we are his heirs, he is our inheritance.
