What was the Cold War?

-The Cold War was not a direct war. It was a tension between the United States and Russia.

-The Cold War began because the US did not believe in communism, and the Soviet Union did.

-The two countries never declared war, but they were preparing for it.

-They competed with each other, mainly in the Space Race.

-The Cold War lasted from 1945-1991.

The Berlin Wall was built. The Berlin Wall was a long wall that separated East Germany (Communist) from West Germany (Democracy). The wall was built in 1961 and torn down in 1989.

Both the Soviet Union (or USSR) and America built many nuclear weapons. The US has produced around 70,000 missiles and other weapons since 1945.

Not-so Fun fact: If just 8 of the nuclear missiles went off at the same time, the blast would be enough to wipe out almost all life on Earth.

Also, one of the most important things that happened during the Cold War was the space race.

What happened during the Cold War?

Boeing made a lot of military aircraft and became one of the most prominent companies in Washington

The number of immigrants from the Pacific Rim skyrocketed. -The two proxy wars that were during the Cold War were the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Because Washington borders the Pacific Rim, many immigrants from Asia, Australia, and other Pacific Rim countries moved here The Korean War caused many Koreans to immigrate to Washington, and the Vietnam War caused many Vietnamese and Hmong people to move here as well.

How did all of this impact WA history?
