This year's Scottsdale Show featured outstanding visibility for

the Egyptian Arabian horse, thanks to the collaboration of The

Pyramid Society, premier sponsor Markel Insurance and the

Arizona Arabian Horse Association.

Numerous activities were held, beginning with an educational

seminar, THE HORSE WITHOUT BORDERS: A PRIMER ON THE

STRAIGHT EGYPTIAN HORSE AND ITS GLOBAL INFLUENCE

TODAY.

Attendees were treated to an exceptional line-up of experts, includ-

ing noted Equine Consultant Scott Benjamin as well as panelists

Tara Carpio, Ted Carson, Shawn Crews, Allison Mehta and Becky

Rogers. Following the morning classes, a social reception was held

with Egyptian Arabian Ambassadors on-hand to answer questions

about The Pyramid Society and the Egyptian Arabian horse. An ex-

quisite, hand-crafted halter valued at $300, was generously donat-

ed as a premier raffle item by Nancy Gates of Heirloom Arabian

Halters. Part B of the seminar followed the afternoon classes with a presenta-

tion of Straight Egyptian horses in an interactive session. See the links below

for access to videos of Part A & B of this educational seminar. The Straight

Egyptian and Heritage classes were well supported by Pyramid Society mem-

bers. The quality of contenders was outstanding and the crowd was on their

feet as the horses were presented and the winners were announced. The

Straight Egyptian Champions took home a special bronze trophy, “Egyptian

Pharaoh” created by Dennis Hilkhuijsen, along with exclusive neck garlands

sponsored by The Pyramid Society.

Special socials and presentations were also hosted by Arabians Ltd. and

Tara Carpio Arabians, providing even more opportunities for our

Egyptian Arabian horses to take the spotlight in Scottsdale.

The Pyramid Society thanks featured sponsor, Markel

Insurance and media sponsor Arabian Horse Times, as well as

the Arizona Arabian Horse Association for their ongoing support

of the Egyptian Arabian horse. READ MORE

EGYPTIAN ARABIANS IN THE WINNERS’ CIRCLE

AT SCOTTSDALE

The top four STRAIGHT EGYPTIAN honors in Scottsdale were proudly

awarded to Pyramid Society member owned horses!

Ariela Arabians made a big

splash at Scottsdale ,

taking home 2 of the top 4

honors. AL AYAL AA (Al

Ayad x *The Vision HG), first

caught everyone’s attention

by winning the Straight

Egyptian Stallions 5 Years &

Older class. He then took

the competition by storm and

was named the Champion

Straight Egyptian Senior

Male.

Next, SOFIYAA AA (Al Ayal AA x

Saniyyah RCA) won her Straight

Egyptian Two Year Old Fillies class

and was ultimately awarded the

honor of Champion Straight

Egyptian Junior Female.

It was an outstanding showing by

Ariela Arabians, and one that won’t soon be forgotten.

AL AYAL AA

SOFIYAA AA

THEE DOMINION (Scapa x Thee Desert

Rose) earned two big wins for owners &

breeders Danny and Carol Heithold of

Misty Valley Arabians in Chickamauga,

Georgia. After being named the unani-

mous winner of the Two Year Old Straight

Egyptian Colts class, he was enthusiasti-

cally led to his Junior Straight Egyptian

Male Championship by Luis Paniagua of

Arabians Ltd.

MAKEDA DB (Mishaal HP x

Jamiil Baarrah) is living up to

her farm’s namesake by making

dreams come true for Virginia,

Ruel and Nicole Gober of

Dreamco Breeders, LLC in

Folsom, Louisiana. She clearly

stood out from the crowd by first

winning the Straight Egyptian

Mares 5 Years & Older class

and going on to be awarded the

title of Champion Straight

Egyptian Senior Female. It

seems the sky is the limit for

Makeda DB!

This was not the first glimpse at stardom for the Senior Champion Mare

and Junior Champion Colt, as both have appeared on the cover of The

SOURCE! Check out MAKEDA DB in Volume 1, and THEE DOMINION

in Volume 3.

Highlighted on show calendars around

the world in February is The International

Arabian Horse Festival in Kuwait. And

for good reason. Bait Al Arab’s show fa-

cility is first class, the horses are spectac-

ular and the hospitality is unsurpassable.

Farm visits following the show to many of

the leading breeders in Kuwait inspired

those attendees fortunate enough to stay,

and further reconfirmed Kuwait’s dedica-

tion and passion for the Arabian horse.

This year’s Festival was held February 4-

7 and included 238 entries for the Inter-

national Championships (all purebreds

with qualification) and 181 entries for the inaugural All Nations Cup – Straight

Egyptians (with qualification). Exquisite breeder awards rewarded and highlight-

ed those top breeders for their dedication and suc-

cess. Visit Bait Al Arab’s website soon for full re-

sults and photos.

THE PYRAMID SOCIETY HONORS BAIT AL ARAB

WITH COMMISSIONED BRONZE BY KAREN

KASPER

The exquisite bronze, "Egyptian Splendor" created by

Karen Kasper, was presented to Bait Al Arab for their

generous support of the Pyramid Society and their

support of its mission in preserving and perpetuating

the Straight Egyptian Arabian horse. The bronze was

presented at a special dinner hosted by Sheikha Sarah

(cont.)

Fahad Al Sabah, Undersecretary of the Amiri Diwan and Chief of the Arabi-

an Horse Center - Bait Al Arab Kuwait State Stud. In attendance were Pyra-

mid Society Trustee, Judith Forbis, Board of Directors, Cynthia Culbertson,

Gail Mailloux, Omar Sakr, Keri Wright and Executive Director Anna Bishop,

as well as other members of the Pyramid Society.

It was a special night dedicated to a marvelous display of Karen Kasper’s

magnificent bronzes - from her first one of Moniet El Nefous in the mid-80's

to the outstanding representation of Ansata Hejazi, commissioned by his

owner Mohammed Jassim Al Marzouq. “Egyptian Splendor” will be on per-

manent display at the new Bait Al Arab Kuwait State Stud.

CHRISTIE METZ

THE PYRAMID FOUNDATION THANKS CHRISTIE METZ

(Bait Al Arab Tribute cont.)

Compassionate, dedicated breeder, respected mentor and teacher, studious, creative, insightful - - just a few of the words effectively describing Christie Metz. It was those, and other attributes too numerous to mention, that served as the drivers behind Christie’s efforts in getting The Pyramid Foundation, Inc., established in 1997. Created as a 501(c)3 charitable arm of The Pyramid Society, its mission is to enhance public recognition and appreciation of the Arabian horse with an emphasis on the Egyptian Arabian horse through educational activities and publications, historical tours, and art featuring the Egyptian Arabian, as well as other charitable activities under the guidelines of a 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation. Significant projects under Christie’s leader-ship have included the highly-regarded

CHRISTIE METZ

Desert Legend Series, Historical DVD’s, the Mary Haggard Giclee prints, Custom Artistic Pedigrees, informative reference materials and ongoing support of the Society’s educa-tional activities and Breeders’ Conferences.

With those accomplishments to her credit, Christie recently announced her decision to be a ‘cheerleader in the background’, as op-posed to remaining the front runner. Christie has definitely earned her stripes, not only serving as the Foundation’s President but also a committed Society Board mem-ber who successfully ran the Society’s art auction for numerous years. She con-tinues to serve the Society as one of its esteemed Trustees. And in this case, effective leaders come as a pair. Husband Henry, also a Trustee, very capably led our Society as its President for eight years. Henry and Christie are stalwarts at every Egyptian Event, in addition to other Society-supported activities. They are also Life Members of The Pyramid Society.

Janice Bush, who’s served as co-chair of the Society’s Education Committee and worked closely with Christie on numerous projects, will be taking the reins as The Pyramid Foundation President. We look forward to continued superb leadership of the Foundation in Janice's capable hands.

The Pyramid Society Board of Directors, fellow Trustees, members and staff are grateful for leaders in our world-wide Arabian community who exemplify the qual-ities of Henry and Christie Metz. We will continue to be inspired by your vision, your dedication and your efforts on behalf of the Egyptian Arabian horse, The Pyramid Society and The Pyramid Foundation, Inc.

Elizabeth Salmon was an icon

within the Arabian community. Her

sincere passion, along with her

expanse of knowledge and sheer

dedication were undeniable, and

ultimately defined her as a trail blazer

and a true advocate of the Arabian

horse.

In 2012 Liz began a valiant battle

with cancer, often courageously post-

ing about her triumphs, challenges and personal experiences, with a positive

attitude consistently shining through. Sadly, Liz passed away on February 7th in

her home surrounded by her loving family. She will be missed by so many and

will be remembered for her significant contributions to the Arabian horse indus-

try. READ MORE

IN MEMORY OF LIZ SALMON

Members of The Pyramid Society join the Arabian com-

munity at large in mourning the profound loss of iconic

horsewoman Sheila Varian. As stated so eloquently in

Arabian Essence’s Tribute to Sheila, “The impact of

this news will be felt in ripples around the globe as

Sheila touched and inspired the lives of horse enthusi-

asts around the world for over six decades.”

May her legacy live on forever.

ARABIAN, A GLOBAL AMBASSADOR

In keeping with our history as guardians of the Egyptian Arabian horse,

The Pyramid Society Board of Directors have taken a major step forward

by implemented new, specific guidelines concerning ring conduct and the

presentation of horses to the judges. At no time will intimidation of the

horse be allowed. In the new guidelines, if at any time the judges feel the

handler is intimidating the horse, they will ask the handler to drop their

whip and step to the side of their horse. Please reference the soon to be

released Prize List for complete class specifications and guidelines.

We are confident that our new guidelines will be met with applause, as we

all work together to showcase these horses in the exciting and dignified
