One of the NHL’s “Original Six,” the Boston Bruins’ rich history includes six Stanley Cup championships and a roster of legendary hockey players. Perhaps the most famous of these legends is Bobby Orr, the Hall of Fame defenseman who revolutionized the way his position was played. Born in Parry Sound, Ontario, Orr was recruited by the Bruins as a 14-year-old junior hockey player. By the time he joined the NHL team as an 18-year-old, he was already considered one of the most exciting players in the world. Over the next 13 years, Bobby Orr led the Bruins to three Stanley Cup finals, winning twice. He also shattered traditional notions about the defenseman position, using his speed and power to create scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. Though knee injuries forced him to retire at the young age of 30, he had already established himself as one of the all-time greats. Orr was selected to the Hall of Fame in 1979.
