David C. Driskell LectureTonight at 6pm, all students are invited to join the 118A colloquium at the David C. Driskell Center in the Cole Student Activities Building to view and discuss the artwork and career of David Driskell, Professor Emeritus, Artist, collector and Curator. Dr. Driskell will be discussing the breadth of his work and

his process as an artist as well as entertaining questions about the nature of his artwork.

For those of you in 118A, please meet at the Driskell Center by no later than 5:50pm--please plan accordingly. The entrance to the Driskell Center is directly across Union Lane from the Stamp Student Union on the south facing side of Cole (look for the DCDC banners just outside of the entrance. In

Arts, Education, and Service at Stamp GalleryThe Stamp Gallery is holding a talk with Baltimore based artist, Peter Bruun, as part of the Leadership in the Arts speaker series on November 9th from 12-2PM in the Jimenez Room at the Stamp. For the past five years, Bruun has served as Founding Artist/Director of Art on Purpose (www.artonpurpose.org), an organization dedicated to art workshops, exhibitions, and programs in support of education, social justice, and community service. The talk will focus on how the arts can be involved in the realm of education and service.

Students in CPSP218A can receive extra credit for attendance. Please check in with Emily at the event to ensure you receive credit.

Water is Rising AssignmentFor those who attended the Water is Rising trip on Friday, the assignment is now posted under the discussion board section of BlackBoard. Please submit your initial questions by Friday, November 11, and respond to another question by Tuesday, November 15 at 11:55pm.

CPSP218A: Technology Project WorkshopTomorrow in the Sophomore colloquium, students will have the opportunity to work on and workshop both the technology project and the capstone proposal assignment. Please bring anything you need to work on the assignment (either for planning or execution). We will be doing directed workshopping activities through the entire class period.

Winter Term Course: Performance for Social ChangeThis winter, fulfill a supporting course requirement with THET399A: Introduction to Applied Theatre: Performance for Social Change, taught by arts program associate director Emily Warheit. In the class, you will learn about an array of applied theatre methods, including drama therapy, educational theatre, playback theatre, community-based performance and theatre for development. As a class, you will also create a forum theatre play on the issue of sustainability on campus to be presented in a public dialogue. No theatre experience is necessary,

Scholars Program Speakers This WeekThis week also brings the next two events in a series of speakers presented by other programs within College Park Scholars. Tonight from 6-8pm in Tyser Auditorium, the Public Leadership program will present Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker to discuss leadership challenges in the county.

Wednesday from 4:30-6:30, the Environment, Technology & Economy (ETE) and Business, Society & the Economy (BSE) programs will present, “Stirring it Up: How to Make Money and Save the World” with Stonyfield Farm CEO Gary Hirshberg in 0130 Tydings Hall.
