Things just feel “heavy”. Maybe it’s because we announced our intentions to plant a new church in Lenoir. Maybe it’s the Coronoavrius. I don’t know. Whatever it is sure feels heavy. You know, as the children of God we are going to feel this type of heaviness as long as we are on this side of Heaven. We don’t belong here. Our home is in an entirely different place. We are called to be sojourners here on earth. We are not meant to “put down roots”. Now where I say put down roots I don’t mean that we are unable to settle down, have a family, build relationships, and work in our community. All of those things are part of the Christian life. What I mean by “put down roots” is that we are not to so embed ourselves within the culture of this place that we begin to love it more than we love the things of God. We as God’s people should yearn for the sight of our King. (cont. on next page) Annie Armstrong Easter Offering Goal: $13,500.00 Total to date: $5,352.50

The Corona-Virus is affecting our world and culture as few things have before. Efforts to curb the spread of the disease are wreaking havoc with many areas of our lives not the least of which is our assembling for worship.

Governor Roy Cooper by executive order on Saturday March 14th banned mass gatherings of over 100 for 30 days. Hello, Church! These past few weeks have been somewhat difficult. Things just feel “heavy”. Maybe it’s because we announced our intentions to plant a new church in Lenoir. Maybe it’s the Coronoavrius. I don’t know.

Announcements

(cont. from front page) Sadly, we are still fighting that old nature that we were born with due to humanity’s sin. We are still capable of fear, sinful anger, resentment, etc. All of our circumstances are having an effect on us whether we realize it or not. The Scriptures say to take every thought captive; quite the fear if you ask me. No matter how difficult it is the command remains. We must take every thought that we have about everything and make it bend to the will of our sovereign God. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused worldwide panic, confusion, supply shortage, and death. These are all things that would give anyone a sense of fear or uneasiness. While we may be con-cerned, or even frightened, by the current situation we find ourselves in we must find our strength in the God that has ordained this to be. God uses all things for our eternal good. (Romans 8:28) This promise isn’t for everyone. Only those who have been called according to His purpose can claim this. The world has no such luxury but we as God’s people do. God has also placed governing bodies over us to keep order. (Romans 13) We would do well to heed our leaders' warnings as long as they do not violate the commands of God found in Scripture. The world is watching how we conduct ourselves in these trying days. May we be found faithful and above reproach. Stay safe, stay sober-minded, and wash your hands. :) -In Christ, Pastor Jimmy
