The Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are a professional baseball

team based out of Boston, Massachusetts. They are

a member of the Major League Baseball's Eastern

Division and were founded in 1901. The team

changed its name in 1908 from the Red Stockings

to The Red Sox, which was a decision of the team

owner, John I. Taylor.

Boston was a leading team in the new league.

They defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1903 World Series and by 1918 they

had won 4 more championships. They are considered to be under one of the

longest championship curses in baseball history, named the "Curse of the Great

Bambino" which is asserted to the Red Sox's sale of Babe Ruth to their greatest

competitor, the Yankees in 1918.

The team's history during a long period was

hardly one of vainness, but was rather

engaged with some of the most memorable

moments in World Series history, such as

EnosSlaughter's mad dash in 1946, the

Impossible Dream of 1967, Carlton Fisk's

home

run in 1975, and Bill Buckner's error in 1986.

The Red Sox are uniformly one of the top MLB teams in average road attendance.
