BEST CD (All Styles): #7) The Blind Spots, "El Camino Dream" - Singer Maddy Walsh release a solo CD a few years ago, but that only hinted at the vocal abilities she displays on the Blinds Spots' debut. She's found her musical soulmate in guitarist Mike Suave, and they've formed a band that rapidly gained a following with a series of strong shows in 2010. BEST FEMALE SINGER: Maddy Walsh, for her powerful vocals on the Blind Spots' debut CD. She also did a great job overdubbing her harmonies. And she really brings it on stage, which not all singers can do when it comes to raising their game in concert. BEST SONGS: The Blind Spots, "Star"

Return of 'The Jimmies' Recognizing the best local CDs of 2010 — By Jim Catalano Before we get too far into 2011, it's time for me to announce the winners of my annual Soundoff awards, nicknamed "The Jimmies." I've been covering the Ithaca music scene since 1992, and I started doing these awards in 1994 to recognize the many talented people who make music in the area. There were approximately 50 CDs released locally in the past year, and while I didn't get to quite all of them (I'm still trying to track down a few recent ones), I did manage to listen to just about all of the ones that came out by Thanksgiving. As has been the case since 1994 (except for last year, when the Jimmies were on hiatus), these award choices entirely subjective. The winners receive absolutely nothing except a handshake and a "Way to go next time I see them around town.

"My favorite part of my time with the

Blind Spots was the fact that every

song sounded different. There was

the upbeat stuff from the upcoming

album, the more mellow sounds of the

live performances, and vice versa in

both cases. They always kept me

guessing. Aside from that, they were

a pleasure to have in the studio,

very personable and humble. Big fans

of their music and wanting only to

share it with the world. And the

world should listen."
