May sincere congratulations and welcome to Imelda Gonzalez, Kathy Hinojosa both from Alice; Nora Lopez from Agua Dulce; and Tina Saenz from San Diego, our four new members, who were initiated at our February meeting held at San Diego ISD Main Library, San Diego, Texas. These key women educators were highly recommended by our members. They will be an asset to the Beta Pi Chapter. Spring is almost here and Beta Pi will have an early March meeting, March 2, and several activities before Spring marches in. In observance of Week of Caring, March 3-9, Beta Pi members will engage in “caring” activities in their respective communities. March 7, is the big fashion event, “O’ What a Show” sponsored by Beta Pi. It will be a night of dining, shopping and a preview of Spring and Summer fashions. This event needs our strong support. We need to sell
tables and/or tickets for the event, donate or solicit silent auction and raffle items. Each one of us will help in some capacity the evening of the show working the entrance, running the auction helping with the models. Please call Mellie Smithwick or Adela Navarro to offer your help and donations. All members should make a strong effort to be at the event. Remember to purchase a ticket if you are not at a reserved table. May you have a grand night at “O’ What a Show,” a great Spring break, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter Sunday.

Beta Pi Welcomes New Initiates Imelda Gonzalez and Kathy Hinojosa from Alice; Nora Lopez from Agua Dulce; and Tina Saenz from San Diego, are official members of The Beta Pi Chapter. New members were initiated during a traditional ceremony at the February meeting held at San Diego ISD Main Library, San Diego, Texas. Membership chair, Yolanda Barerra, was assisted with the initiation ceremony by President Elva Garcia, Grace Estringel and Marta Teresa Villarreal. New members recited their pledge, signed the Official Initiate Register, accepted their membership certificate and were presented a Red Rose.
Following the ceremony Imelda, Kathy, Nora and Tina were congratulated by members and pictures were taken with their sponsor member.

A “Ceremony of Remembrance” will be held at the March 2, 2013, meeting in remembrance of our deceased members Ann Lee Fair, Marguerite Laughlin and Gloria Olga Garcia. We will honor our deceased friends and members as key woman educators. Please make every effort to attend.

The three members will also be remembered in a “Ceremony of remembrance” at the TSO Convention in Austin in June along with Clara Utley and The Honorable Ernestine Glossbrenner.
Happy 50th Anniversary
“Felicidades” to our 50 year members Esmeralda Garcia, Palito Blanco and Jane Garcia, McAllen. We will pay tribute to these two Beta Pi sisters on April 13, 2013. Come enjoy “The Rose,” at a dutch luncheon at Jalisco Restaurant, Falfurrias, Texas. Partake in the tribute to these key woman educators who have been role models for many of our members. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Founders Day will be observed at the April 13, meeting.

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts4 slices Swiss cheese1 can cream of chicken soup (dilute with water to pour)2 cups herb-seasoned stuffing 1/2 cup butter, melted (optional)

Place chicken in baking dish.Add slices of cheese on top of chicken.Pour soup over all.Sprinkle with stuffing mix.Drizzle butter on top.Bake, uncovered, at 350º for 50 to 55 min.

The Beta Pi Chapter continues to contribute to this year’s project “The Light at the End of the Rainbow” with the “Week of Caring” being observed March 3-9, 2013. President Elva Garcia encouraged members to become involved in “caring” activities in their communities. Members are planning on revisiting the Rainbow Room, located at the Department of Human Service building in Alice, with gifts of school supplies, personal and other much needed items. During the “Week of Caring,” Beta Pi will also host a book drive to benefit The Davis Moon Project, Inc. The Davis Moon Project organizes literacy missions to deliver books to Ethiopia to identified children’s libraries in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Book donations may be brought to “O’ What a Show”, fashion show, March 7, 2013, KC Hall.

“Women teachers to the calling ...”
O’What a Show, a Spring fashion show, is the latest “buzz” in town. O’ What a Show sold out of Runway tables within the first week of table sales. The fashion tables are just as popular. Showcasing at the show will be clothiers Kids Kloset Specialty Shop, BEALLS, Krazyy Cowgirls, Cosa Bella Boutique, Especially For Me Boutique and Wedding Lace Bridal Shop & Tuxedo Rental. More than 100 volunteer models will take the runway on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the KC Hall, Alice. O’ What a Show will feature vendor shopping with Amy’s Creations, Neva’s Bowtique, The Pink Box (baked goods), Sweet Shoppe of Mine, Sweet Shoppe Rental and RSVP Events. Silent auction and raffle items donated and/or solicited by Beta Pi members should be brought to the March 2nd meeting to prepare for displaying. Members are asked to wear red to the event in the form of a dress, blouse or jacket; this will be our unifying marker. Alice High School Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), will be on hand to help escort our guest to their tables. Every member is asked to make a “strong” effort to be at our event, O’ What a Show. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and showtime at 7:30 p.m. Members will need a ticket if not seated at a reserved table.
