Words from your interim Pastor Footprints in the Sand

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the

LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets

of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in

the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I de-

cided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most trouble-

some times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you

most you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During

your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried

you.

Ponder on the words of the poem. How many times in our life’s journey have we asked God; why

did this happen to me? Have you forgotten me? Many of the Psalms have these questions and la-

ments. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 13; How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How

long will you hide your face from me? ...But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your

salvation. I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.

The Psalms have been referred to as “The People’s Book.” The Psalms had been written over a

period of 400 years. There are many Psalms which identify with the poem “Footprints.” Where are

you hiding when I need you the most?” The LORD comforts us in that he is the rock of our salva-

tion. He is ever present during the good times and the times of trial. God is faithful and he gives

strength to those who are weary. God will renew our strength and he bears us up on eagle’s wings

(Isaiah 40:28-31). The LORD promised the one who asked him; where were you when I needed you

the most? The LORD replied that during the trials and sufferings, it was then that he carried him.

God renews our strength and he bears us up on eagle’s wings and we will not be tired or weary. God

promises that we too are carried by and comforted if we let him. Then we continue in our life’s

journey and God is ever present in our lives.

The refrain to the hymn “I need thee every Hour;” “I need thee, O I need thee; every hour I need

thee; O bless me now my Savior, I come to thee. The person in the poem, the psalmist, and you and I

know that we need the Savior who once for all has saved us from our sins. We are to fully rely on

God (F.R.O.G.).

We have the assurance that in the times that we lose sight of our LORD; when we have a “sleepy”

faith, Our Father turns us in the right direction, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus.” He will not fail us or

leave us orphaned.

God’s love is amazing. Who are we that God is mindful of us? Who are we that he cares for us?

The answer? It is us for we are his redeemed children.

Blessings, Pastor Marcia ╬

Dear friends at Ascension Lutheran, Thank you so much for your special

gift of $200 for the May Benevolence. We enjoy getting to

co-labor with you in the Great Commission, seeing Jesus glorified and lives

transformed through the power of prayer, worship, and hands-on ministry. We know that God’s eye is upon you all and pleased to find a congregation standing in agreement with the

Word of God, like a light in this dark world. Praying for you today to be strengthened to

run your race with endurance, and strengthened by a greater revelation of

Jesus and God’s great love for you.

Blessings, Theresa & Jonathan Baldwin

approved.

Pastor’s Report was presented by Pastor Sabin, there were only a few questions of the Pastor.

Treasurer’s Report: Lisa presented a synopsis of the financials up to May 31, 2016. YTD our in-

come exceeds our expenses by just over $10,000, mainly due to the fact of not a having to pay a

fulltime Pastor. Motion by Dave, second by George, and a voice vote approved the motion.

of the shingles lost in a recent wind/rain storm. (Youth) It was learned that Shelly Klemp is

in the process of purchasing “Lifefest” tickets for the older youth in the congregation for

their summer outing. Lifefest takes place in Oshkosh, July 7-10. This a faith-based gathering

featuring music and displays for young and old alike.

gone up $74. This is a minimum increase and approval is recommended. Moved by Dave,

second by Al, and Motion approved.

LP Contract: Darrel reported that Larson Coop has bid a price $.10 less than our current suppli-

er, Garrow Oil. It was moved by Glen, second by George to go with the Larsen bid, unless a

lower bid can be found.

Other new business: Dave suggested that the Church does not have a weather monitor radio for

severe weather. Lisa said she has one and will donate it to the Church. Thank you Lisa.

Friends-June is here and soon it will be very hot. The following note was given to the women who attended the garden retreat at

our house. Before long the garden plants will be suffering through summer in the desert. We sometimes suffer in what seems to be

a desert of the soul. But, God promises His presence at ALL times and in ALL places. He brings us beside refreshing waters.

Remember to not take a vacation from daily time with God this summer.

Garden Moments with God

The garden teaches us a lot about God. It is the place I feel closest to Him. We have a lot of really good conversations there. And

sometimes, I whine to Him. But, He’s always there, ready to listen….and sometimes, when I finally quiet myself, He even talks

back!

Dead Seeds-seeds are dried up, dead things that fall off plants. But, give them a little attention and they spring to life! When we

“die to ourselves” God cares for us and brings us to life with His perfect plan for our future (and HIS plan is always prettier!)

Rain-a good steady rain is wonderful for the plants in the garden. It waters them deep inside and cleanses the outside. It relieves

the drought. A good cry can do the same thing in us: it cleanses us deep inside and relieves some pain. God invented our eyes in

such a way as to have them ‘spill over’ when we are emotional. He’s pretty cool that way.

Weeds-I love a beautiful garden with nice dark soil or mulch around beautiful green plants. I hate it when another green plant in-

vades the territory. Nut grass has a way of popping up in my garden. When you look at the vegetables, you’ll see some nut grass. It

sends a little hair-thin root with a nut on the end that pops up another grass. When you pull it, the little root breaks so the nut stays

down there to produce another invading grass. Sin is like that. We can cover up the top of it but that little root sticks around to in-

vade our thoughts another day. But, when we seek the root of the sin and surrender ALL to Jesus, He is faithful and just to forgive

us and remove the whole thing…root, nut, invading part too.

Too much of a good thing-I planted a spider plant in my front planter about 6 years ago. They are usually in hanging pots but who

cares, they look pretty in the planter too. Well, today, a free spider vine is available to take home and place in a hanging basket!

That is what that original little spider plant did….underground it produced a bulb which kept on going. It is “too much of a good

thing”. I’ll guarantee that with all the vines I removed, there are still a few of those bulbs under the ground and I’ll find more

plants popping up soon. I should have planted the first one in a hanging basket. In life, we need moderation in all things. God

gives us lots of adventures (family, friends, meals, meetings, church activities, exercise classes, games) but if we only focus on one

thing, we miss His joys in the other things and our life gets boring.

Not enough of a good thing-I love pansies. They are delicate little early spring flowers. But, their season is short because as soon

as the heat begins, they expire. I want them longer. I want more of them. But, maybe if I saw them all year long, I wouldn’t appre-

ciate them nearly as much as the few months I can see them bloom. It’s the same with the Iris in the front planters…or geraniums,

stocks, snapdragons and the like. Can I force myself to appreciate the beauty God gives me just for today? His adventures are

endless!

Surprises-I love surprises! Sometimes in my garden I plant seeds and then forget what I planted. When the plants come up, I am

pleasantly surprised. But, sometimes the plants distribute their own seeds on the wind and again, I get surprised when that plant

pops up in another area next year. And occasionally, I plant seeds and nothing comes up but those flowers show up in the following

year! God said, “I have a plan to give you a hope and a future.” Again, God surprises me!

My Plan or God’s?-My garden pavers were very spread out. I wanted them closer for the retreat. So, I hauled in dirt and sand and

began the task of pulling them all up and raising them and placing them closer. The newer pattern gave me only enough for about

halfway. I planned to go to the store and buy another pallet. But, I found out, they no longer make that style. And most pavers

aren’t the gray color that would match. Now what? ? My plan is ruined! The pattern won’t be the same! So, I pouted for a few

minutes and bought another pallet of pavers. Those are the ones closest to the gate. I like them better, they are easier to walk on

but the store only had one pallet and they reached exactly to the gate.

Generosity-one day as I talked with my neighbor about preparing for this retreat, he asked if I would like an arbor. “Always!” I

replied. I expected a little aluminum arch and instead he gave me a beautiful iron arbor with a gate in it. I quickly removed my

chain link gate. The new gate wasn’t as wide so I planted passion vine on both sides to keep the dog out. It is growing beautifully

and climbing up that arbor more each day. God asks us to be generous givers of our time, talent and treasures. My neighbor’s gen-

erosity has delivered many happy moments as I look at that gate!

Repurposing-this term simply means using one gift or item for another purpose later on. In my garden, you’ll see lots of repur-

posed items (the pallet planter hanging on the fence, the monkey bars that will hold the cucumber vines, the white wrought iron

planter by the garden hose that my neighbor threw away 9 years ago, the short metal fencing that will hold in the wildflowers when

they come up). God repurposed me last year from a financial analyst to a jail/trauma counselor; not part of the original plan but

functional for Him anyway. Are you ready to see what He does with you this next year?!!!

Respite-Respite means ‘rest’. I don’t get enough of it…or take enough. I’ve had to learn that the hard way. So, God sent me a 17-

month old to teach me! When Richie and I are working in the garden, he gets bored faster than I do. Sometimes, he gets fussy. He

needs attention right now! I have to stop what I’m doing So, I stop and we pick an orange together and go to the swing and sit and

eat it, throwing our orange peels into the dirt because they will be used by the soil. God gives me free will to keep on working until

I’m exhausted. But, He also says “Come unto me, all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest”. We can take it all

to Him & rest, knowing He has it all taken care of.

Thank you for letting me share my garden! I’m so glad you could be here for a time of respite and enjoying the beauty of God’s

creation. And now…May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may OVERFLOW with

hope by the power of the Holy Spirit! ~ Pastor Robyn

Granola Breakfast Cookies 1 1/2 cups Granola 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 1/2 cups rolled oats 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup dried fruit (raisins, cherries 2 ripe bananas, mashed cranberries or blueberries) 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup chocolate chips 1/4 cup honey

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, com-bine oats, dried fruit, chocolate chips, cinnamon and salt. In a medium bowl, combine the mashed banana, peanut putter and honey. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until well mixed. Using 1/4 cup of the cookie mixture for each cookie, spoon the mixture onto the parchment-lined cookie sheet. Shape and flatten with your spoon. They should be 1/2 inch thick. Keep in mind they’re not going to spread when you bake them. Bake for 15-17 minutes until the edges start to turn golden brown. Cool for at least 5 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.

Thank you to Sarah Olson for this recipe. Rita Olson provided the recipe and stated that

she uses only 1/2 cup of dried fruit and also adds nuts.

blesses them. So at other

times, when you are safe

and happy, remember

that someone has prayed

for you.

WORRYING does not

take away tomorrow’s

TROUBLES, it takes away

today’s PEACE.
