DESCRIPTION
Ola, Hola and Hello from the Americas. This is the final stop on our whirlwind tour of our continents. We have learnt about North and South America today. We found that more people live in North America and that the climate changes from the North to the South. The children ate a traditional corn cuisine from Mexico prepared by Chef Howarth. We also discovered that the habitat of many of the South American animals is being endangered by humans. This afternoon we also had some special visitors from South America - two furry little guinea pigs courtesy of Anthony. Thanks to Cassidy for providing our South American music. • The Americas are made up of two continents. North and South America.
• North America has 40 countries.
• South America has 13 countries.
• Most people in North America speak English or Mexican. In South America there are lots more languages spoken.

NORTH AMERICA PEOPLE
• North American Indians are the native people of this continent. They live in tribes. Some tribes are inuit from Alaska, Cherokee Indians, Cheyenne Indians from USA and Chilliwach from Canada. There are hundreds of tribes.
• North American people mainly have come from European countries – England, France, Holland, Ireland and Germany.
• Most people speak English. The native people have many different languages.
SOUTH AMERICAN PEOPLE
• South American people mainly descend from Spain and Asia.
• Each country speaks their own language. The native people have many different languages but they mainly speak Spanish and Portuguese.
• Famous tribes are the Incas and the Aztecs.
Some people live up north by the Arctic where it is very cold, like Canada.
Some people live in the
tropics along the
Equator, like Jamaica.
Some people live in the rainforests and mountains of South America.

Over 514 million people live in North America. They mostly speak English. But some people in Canada
speak French too.
Over 371 million live in South America. Many people are of Inca, Aztec or Spanish descent.
NORTH AMERICAN ANIMALS
• Large animals of North America include the Brown Bear, the Moose, Buffalo and Coyote.
• Many animals are ENDANGERED because their habitat has been put in trouble by humans.
South AMERICAN ANIMALS
• South America is full of unusual animals not found anywhere else on Earth.
• Many of the animals of South America live in the Rainforests.
• People believe thousands have not been discovered yet.
• Many animals are ENDANGERED because their habitat is in trouble because of logging and deforestation (burning of the forests).
North American Foods
People in North America eat foods from all over the world.
Many of our takeaway foods come from North America.

South American Foods
Each South American country has a unique cuisine that was shaped by its history, geography, and culture.
They grew corn, lima beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, chile peppers, avocados, peanuts, chocolate, and raised llamas and guinea pigs
Unusual Foods from the Americas
Eskimos of Alaska are known to eat seal fins and whale blubber.
In South America some coastal tribes eat turtle stew.
In South America some tribes eat Iguana.

• The most popular sport in the Americas is Football.
• There are eight teams going to the Fifa World Cup from the Americas.
