The Basics

• Figure drawing is the nude study of the human figure

• The basis for all drawing with the human form

• The typical mediums used are charcoal, pencil, pen, brush

And ink, and pastels.

Comparing Aesthetics

During our research we found there are many styles of

Figure drawing. We decided to compare the different

Aestheics of these styles. We had four separate books on

The topic: Dynamic Figure Drawing, The Art of Figure

Drawing, Realistic Figure Drawing, and Figure drawing

For all it’s worth.

Dynamic Figure Drawing

This style of drawing is the most

“unreal” style that we studied.

It emphasizes the muscular

Structure of the human body in

A disproportionate and idealized way.

The Art of Figure Drawing

This style of figure drawing is much

More loose and proportionate to the

Actual human body. The rendering is

Realistic but still sketchy.

Realistic Figure Drawing

This style is lighter and more

blurred. And the figure has

smoother, rounder edges. The

highlights are created by a light

pencil, unlike the others

examples. The highlights

contribute to the roundness of

the edges.

Figure Drawing For All It’sWorth

This style and picture are done

primarily in charcoal. The high

contrast gives it a great sense of

depth and 3-dimension. Allowing

the woman to appear realistic, yet

sketchy.

After looking at these different aesthetics of

drawing figures we chose to compare Danica’s

figure drawings to the ones we had studied.

Then determined which aesthetic they were

most similar to.
