CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME

On behalf of the Korean Society of Steel Construction (KSSC), it is my great pleasure to havethis opportunity to welcome you all to Seoul, Korea to participate in the 5th InternationalSymposium on Steel Structures, ISSS'09. The main objective of this symposium is to provide aninternational forum for presentation of recent advances on various aspects of construction steeland its applications to steel structures.

The technical program of the symposium consists of presentations of 4 keynote lectures, 49invited papers by each session organizer, 14 industrial session papers, and 95 general technicalpapers related to mechanical and structural behaviors, analysis and design, fabrication,construction, and maintenance of steel structures such as bridges, buildings, and other industrialfacilities.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to the members of theInternational Advisory Committee, Local Advisory Committee, and Local Organizing Committee fortheir valuable contributions and hard work. Special thanks are due to invited keynote speakers andsession organizers for their hard work which will make the Symposium very successful one. Lastbut not least, to all Symposium delegates for their supports and participations to ensure anothersuccessful Symposium.
