Miracles Continuing to Blossom!
Hello! I am so excited about St. Junipero Serra Catholic School’s growth. I graduated from St. Serra in 2014. I was there when we had trailers for classrooms - and when we moved into the amazing current buildings. My little brother is currently a St. Serra student and he and his peers will be able to use all the facets of what the building campaign has done because of your generosity.
I am particularly excited about this final part of construction though, because of my appreciation of technology. My life went in a surprising direction on June 16, 2015 when I dove off a boat while on vacation in Florida and broke my neck.
My biggest challenge in a day frequently is getting people to realize I am not different because I am in a wheelchair. We are all unique as God made us. I am the same person I was before the accident. My dreams and goals have not changed. I am a rising senior at JSerra Catholic High School in the Medical Magnet program. I want to work in the medical field. What has changed is physically how that will happen. My reliance on technology has increased a bit - I use a manual wheelchair to get around and I use voice-to-text software to write frequently, for example. These are universal designs that are used by many people the world over. They were invented to solve a problem - to fulfill a need. The world needs problem solvers.
The STEAM building will be a wonderful place to continue St. Serra's tradition of educating students who are excited to learn and want to be problem solvers in this world. I am thankful for my time at St. Serra and the faith, education and love that has followed me in my journey.
I encourage you to support St. Serra in all of its endeavors - and I encourage you to remember what I have learned and come to embrace in the last two years - that none of us will leave this world without sometimes asking for help and none of us should leave it without having given it.
