NNR BOARD 2015-2016

NNR (Nonthaburi Neighborhood Reach) is a not-for-profit organization of

volunteers dedicated to serving the Nonthaburi community and supporting local

charities since 1994. We achieve this by publishing Thani Talk, a free monthly

magazine that has a distribution of 1,400 copies, as well as hosting an annual charity

bazaar. We host monthly socials and organize monthly tours. There are no

membership dues, and anyone living in Nonthaburi is already a member.

As the holidays approach I

like to think about the things

I am grateful for. I am

always grateful to live in

such a wonderful community

with so many people and

kind hearts. The NNR has been fortunate to

have a very successful Charity Bazaar, so we are

able to give back to the local Thai communities

around us.

Many charities will benefit from your help

and participation in the bazaar. Thank you so

much. We are also grateful to help new

members connect into the community, and to

have helped the women in the Nichada

Worker’s Camp receive breast cancer checks,

mammograms, and ultrasounds. I am very

pleased and relieved to say that none of those

women had cancer!

I am also very grateful to all those

individuals in our community who give

generously of their time and money to help

those less fortunate. Every month we want

to show you how people in our community

give back. We hope that will encourage

others to join in.

I am also grateful for my wonderful

family, and I wish you and yours a fabulous

holiday season wherever you may be. Live

life to the fullest and smile often :)

Our Nonthaburi community is a microcosm

representing the many cultures and religions of the

world. As we work and live side by side, we also,

if we choose to, worship at different venues in or

near the neighborhood, and in the Greater

Bangkok area.

The beauty of it all is that we all respect our

cultural and religious differences, while embracing

one another in friendship.

In every issue of Thani Talk, a list of

religious venues had always been included for our

readers’ convenience. But the listing of addresses

and phone numbers alone did not provide enough

information for us to get to know one another.

So, in this issue of Thani Talk, I’m pleased

to introduce you to a more enlightening glimpse of

more than half a dozen religious groups and

venues that serve the thousands of people in our

Mosques in Our Neighborhood

at Soi Prasert Issaram and Samakkee Road

Meet Our Diverse Community:

Worshipping and Living Side by Side in Harmony

community, both local Thais and expatriates.

Two groups that had been inadvertently left

out of previous listings of religious venues are the

Hindu community, and the Bahá’í community.

Beginning with the next issue of Thani Talk in

February, I will rectify that oversight and list their

information on a regular basis as well.

I hope that in addition to reading about your

neighbors of different faiths on the following

pages, you will also reach out and introduce

yourself to them, and get to know them.

Many groups have extended open

invitations to visit their venue, especially during

the upcoming holiday season. Take advantage of

that priceless opportunity if you can.

Happy reading!

The Soi Prasert Issaram Mosque, not far

from the main gate of Nichada Thani, is one of

two Sunni mosques in our neighborhood. Under

the leadership of Imam Yousop Leechalard, the

mosques serve more than 500 Muslim families

representing more than 3,500 people.

At Friday prayers, the faithful include not

only local Thais, but also professional football

players from Africa, immigrants from Pakistan

and India, as well as Nichada expatriates from

around the world.

Prayers are broadcast from loudspeakers five

times a day, making Muslim expatriates such as

Lea Palma, who is from Indonesia, feel right at

home. Other foreigners are equally embraced by

the Muslim locals on Soi Prasert Issaram. ISB

students are invited to take field trips to the public

school down the soi, and Imam Yousop said

everyone is welcome to visit the mosque.

Catholics Meet at

Our Lady of Mercy in Nonthaburi

Greetings from Our Lady of Mercy’s

English congregation! We are a growing Catholic

community just 15 minutes away from Nichada

Thani.

Our Lady of Mercy (OLM) is a large and

beautiful church that includes a prayer chapel

(with relics of Saint John Paul II), a retreat house,

and visitor accommodation.

On February 16, 1974, OLM had the honor

of having the King of Thailand himself, His

Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, preside over

the opening ceremony of our church. Since then,

the church has functioned as a subsidiary church

of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Bangkok, and an

independent parish since 1986.

OLM has a vibrant Thai Catholic

congregation and has welcomed the English-

speaking community by sharing a number of

International masses together.

Father Raffaele Manenti is our wonderful

priest who belongs to the PIME (Pontifical Insti-

tute for Foreign Missions) community of apostolic

life. This is reflected in the role OLM takes by

hosting missionary families and priests as they

study and prepare for missions in Northern

Thailand.

OLM has several charitable and social

activities. Some projects are mail operated under

the St. Martin Foundation. The "Homes for Hope"

project cares for about 80 underprivileged

children. OLM has a close relationship with the

adjacent home for disabled children, “Home for

Angels,” which welcomes visitors any time to

come and meet the Thai children and families who

live there. These social and charitable projects are

run with the help and cooperation from all people

of good will.

Thanks to Father Raffaele and our parish

volunteers, OLM provides ongoing faith

formation and prayer for all ages. You will find

many of our parishioners participate in our mass,

our youth in altar serving and music ministry. Our

priests are always available for Sacraments and

counseling.

Current projects include forming a youth

group, community outreach (e.g. prison visits, our

annual Christmas Giving Tree), and supporting

charity fundraisers (such as the “Bike for Dad”

campaign in honor of His Majesty the King.)

New parishioners are always welcome. For

more information, please contact us by phone or

by the email provided.

Peace, love, and joy to all during the

upcoming Christmas season. Welcome to Our

Lady of Mercy Church!

There are more than 40,000 temples in

Thailand, according to the National Office of

Buddhism, and an amazing one is located only a

20-minute drive from Nichada.

Wat Bua Khwan, most likely the only

temple in Thailand with escalators, is truly a

neighborhood temple serving Buddhists in the Soi

Samakkee and Nganwongwan Road areas.

Phra Rachanumthamuni leads 150 monks

and more than 30 novices in offering the local

community a place to pray, make merit and seek

solace, said 32-year-old monk Phra Phraphon

Phanthavitcho.

In addition, the temple provides cremation

and funeral services, and it is affiliated with the

Wat Bua Khwan primary school next door.

Each day, 100 to 200 locals visit the temple.

On important holy days and holidays, 400 to 500

people pray there, said Phra Phraphon.

The main hall of the temple, completed in

2014, is home to a golden Buddha that is a replica

of a revered Buddha image from the renowned

pilgrimage city of Bodh Gaya, India.

The spacious compound of Wat Bua Kwan,

home to a wide range of deities, offers a sanctuary

to worshippers and others who want to meditate.

The pivotal principle of the Bahá’í Faith is to

unite all races and peoples in one universal cause,

the betterment of the world.

Bahá'u'lláh, founder of the Bahá’í Faith,

teaches that every person is an unique soul that

must have a place in the advancement of society.

He teaches that there is one God whose existence

is beyond our understanding. He is the Creator of

everything, and although we may call Him by

different names – God or Yahweh, Allah, Brahma,

or the Great Spirit – we are speaking about the

same loving Presence that has supported and

guided humanity throughout history.

Bahá'u'lláh’s message of infinite hope for all

of humanity finds expression in the work that the

Bahá’ís carry out in their communities. In all types

of settings, Bahá’ís are learning how to foster

gatherings for friends and neighbors to unite in

prayer and explore how to draw from spiritual

forces like love, service and an attraction to beauty

that provide meaning to our individual and

collective lives; and how to tend to the spiritual

aspirations of children and make their education

central to community and family life.

An activity of particular significance in the

Baha’i community is the “Junior Youth Spiritual

Empowerment Program,” open to young people

aged between 11 and 14, which assists them in

navigating a crucial stage in their lives. The

program helps them form a strong moral identity

and empowers them to contribute to the well-being

of their communities and the world at large.

People from all backgrounds are invited to

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day

Saints (LDS Church), a global church with over 15

million members worldwide, was officially recog-

nized by the Thai government in 1961 and

presently has over 20,000 members in 38 congre-

gations throughout the Kingdom of Thailand.

The local chapel for Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-Day Saints is located at 50/33 Moo 4

Chaengwattana Road. The Chaengwattana Ward

(LDS congregations are called "wards") is an

English-speaking congregation that caters to

people whose first language is other than

Thai. Worshippers from a dozen countries, includ-

ing 18 Nichada families, attend the local ward.

The congregation meets every Sunday from

9 a.m. to noon (beginning in January this will

change from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.) in meetings divided

into three 1-hour blocks: sacrament meeting

(similar to a mass, where all worshippers meet),

Sunday School classes dedicated to scripture

study, and group meetings for men, women, youth,

and children.

Ward youth aged 12 to 17 also meet together

every Wednesday night in Nichada Thani to

participate in wholesome group activities.

Bishop Richard Nelson, a Nichada Thani

resident, has been called to lead the congregation.

The LDS Church has no professional clergy and

relies on lay church members to lead and teach its

congregations. Thus, ward members serve one

another as teachers, counsellors, speakers and

administrators.

Mormon Church Serves Community

from Base on Chaengwa0ana

The LDS Chaengwattana Ward welcomes

visitors to its weekly meetings and also holds

events throughout the year for all members of the

local community.

On December 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.,

several local LDS congregations will present a

special Christmas event called "Journey to

Bethlehem" (see p. 33) at the Chaengwattana

chapel. The activity takes guests on a journey

through ancient Israel at the time of Christ's birth

(in either English or Thai.) Visitors will experi-

ence the sights and sounds that marked the birth of

Jesus on that first Christmas. The Chaengwattana

Ward invites all Nichada Thani residents to join

them for this special event to celebrate the

Christmas season.

Hindu Community Worships

at Many Venues

Religion in India is characterized by a

diversity of religious beliefs and practices. The

Indian subcontinent is the birthplace of some of

the world's major religions; namely Hinduism,

Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.

Throughout India's history, religion has been

an important part of the country's culture.

Religious diversity and religious tolerance are both

established in the country by law and custom.

Hindus worship at home daily with Poojas,

shlokas and Bajans in praise of Hindu deities who

reflect the 'way of life' a Hindu should live. The

day starts with a bath, sooriya namaskaram in

worship of Sun god, pooja to all deities, cooking in

satvik vegetarian method, offering the food to

Gods called “neivethyam”.

Often, an evening Pooja is also held, ending

with evening praise “sandya vanthanam,” thanking

the Sun God for the boons the sun has given us

during the day. Hinduism allows a lot of flexibility

and freedom in its practice and hence daily

worship will vary among communities and

individuals. (source: Priya King, Nichada resident)

QUICK FACTS

In 1964, the Jewish Association of Thailand

(known as the JAT) was formally established.

During the 1960s the Vietnam War brought

hundreds of American Jewish servicemen to

Thailand. It was during this time that the

community established a religious school, a

sisterhood, and regularly scheduled religious and

social events.

For the first time the community had Rabbis

through the services of the American military

chaplains. By the early 1970s many Israelis began

to visit Thailand, especially young back-packers.

Several Israelis established businesses here in

Bangkok .

In 1979, Elizabeth Rosenberg Zerner, the

Thai-born daughter of the first Jewish family in

the country, donated a parcel of land and a

residence for the synagogue. To honor Elizabeth

Zerner, the Association’s synagogue was named

Beth Elisheva.

During the community presidency of a

prominent local businessman, Mr. Ebrahim

Kashani, our synagogue was remodeled and the

first Jewish cemetery consecrated.

In 1993, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor,

accompanied by his wife Nechama Dina, and baby

daughter, arrived in Bangkok to serve as the

Community Rabbi. Due to Rabbi Kantor’s

inspiring leadership, the Jewish Community now

includes a branch on Khaosan Road, and in Chiang

Mai, Ko Samui, and Phuket where regular Shabbat

and holiday prayer services are held as well as a

kosher restaurant and shop at all the above

locations, and an educational program.

The JAT has a membership of almost 300 local

residents representing Jews from all walks of life,

and as well we host thousands of visitors from all

over the globe every year. Besides families that

have lived here for generations, our community

members come mainly from the United States,

Israel, and Europe.

Jewish Associa4on of Thailand

Jewish Association of Thailand members join late JAT Pres-

ident Michael Gerson for prayers for the King of Thailand,

respects to His Majesty.

Thailand Progressive Jewish Community's

(TPJC) mission is to meet the spiritual and cultural

needs of Jewish residents of Thailand who are

more comfortable with Reform, Reconstructionist,

and Conservative liturgy and policies.

TPJC welcomes all people who are

interested in practicing and learning about

Judaism, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, sexual

orientation, or ability. Our membership includes

Jews-by-birth, Jews-by-choice, and non-Jews

seeking to further their understanding of Jewish

religion and culture, and we support those

sincerely seeking to convert to Judaism.

We are a multi-national and multi-cultural

community of Jews based in Thailand who come

together to hold progressive and inclusive religious

services as well as other activities and social

events. We organize monthly Shabbat dinners/

services, High Holidays celebrations, and other

Jewish events throughout the year.

Our events are religious, educational and

informal, primarily lay-lead by member(s) or

invited rabbi(s) from other countries. The next

holiday on the Jewish calendar is Chanukah, and

there will be celebrations in both Chiang Mai and

stories. The community is welcoming of other

beliefs and ideas, and brings out the best of the

Jewish religion, focusing not only on “history,”

but also on the morals it teaches. In this way, it is

simple to be both Thai and Jewish, growing up

with both Jewish and Buddhist concepts,

holidays, and ceremonies.

Chris4an Church in Nichada

Unites Denomina4ons and Na4onali4es

Chaengwattana Community Church (CCC)

is an English speaking, non-denominational, Bible

-based, Spirit-empowered church in Nichada

Thani, where more than 30 different nationalities

gather to worship every Sunday. Our mission

statement is: Love God • Be the Church • Serve

the World.

The purpose of this church is simply to equip

and mobilize men and women to follow Jesus

through corporate worship, Biblical teaching,

prayer, sharing life together in small groups,

serving needy people in our community, in

Bangkok, in Thailand and southeast Asia. Essen-

tially, we are called to join God in His Kingdom-

agenda of making disciples from all nations.

The church sanctuary is located on the south-

east corner of Lake Nichada, adjacent to the com-

munity pool. Every Sunday, the entire congrega-

tion gathers for worship, instruction and fellow-

ship from 9:30 –11 am. Additional opportunities

for all age groups are scheduled throughout each

week for fellowship, instruction and service. “The

Den” is a unique space set aside specifically for

high school and middle school youth, and is open

at various times throughout the week. All youth

from the Nichada community are welcome to drop

in, hang out, play games, do homework, or just

relax. Snacks are available, along with free wifi.

A significant part of what makes CCC unique

among churches is its strong commitment to offer

physical and financial assistance to more than a

dozen other organizations ministering in and

around Thailand. This provides multiple service

venues for charitable volunteer work.

CCC is self-supporting, in that it receives no

financial assistance from any other religious

organization. The entire budget is determined by

free-will offerings from the congregation. The full

-time staff at CCC are comprised of an office ad-

ministrator, a housekeeper, as well as Youth Pas-

tor and Lead Pastor. The congregation is governed

by a Church Council, consisting of Elders and

Deacons, who in turn are elected by the congrega-

tion at an Annual General Meeting each spring.

Anyone is welcome to visit us to explore

what the Bible teaches about God’s amazing love

for those created in His image. Occasional special

events are held throughout the year to aid this

exploration (e.g., Christmas Eve, Good Friday.)

Foodland: Alternave for Full-range Grocery Shopping

Although IT Square at Laksi Plaza on

Chaengwattana Road is well known for its

computer and printer repair, pirated DVDs and

cheap shoes, it is not as well known for its

grocery store, Foodland.

On the first floor there is a large (guessing

about twice the size of Villa) well stocked

grocery store. Foodland, which has 15 branches

in the Bangkok area plus another in Pattaya,

carries a large variety of foreign foods and also

offers a butcher, seafood, and European style

bakery with fresh bread.

Although I found their fresh fruit and

vegetable section lacking, they do have a small

salad bar.

Stop by their café, Took Lae Dee

Restaurant, for an American breakfast, with two

fried eggs, your choice of either sausage, ham or

bacon, served with toast, butter and jam along

with coffee or tea all for just 62 baht during the

happy hour of 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

If you ever arrive at Don Muang Airport

late at night and know there is no fresh milk for

the kids’ cereal in the morning, Foodland is open

24 hours a day.

Recently, when everyone was searching for

a turkey, I was able to find a Butterball there for

350 baht/kg.

Foodland’s Laksi branch is straight down

Chaengwattana Road to the east from Pakkred,

over two flyovers. It is located on the north west

corner of Chaengwattana Road and Vibhavadi

Rangsit Highway.

Halal Markets Near Nichada

Convenient Corner Bike Shop

Ever since I came to Thailand from

Indonesia in 2013, I’ve been looking for places

that sell halal food, because I am a Moslem. I

needed all kinds of halal food such as meat,

poultry, sausages, meat balls, tofu etc.

Living in Pakkret, in the middle of a

Muslim neighborhood, really helped. At Ruam

Jai Market, located near the factory outlet stores

by Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani, I can

find halal meat and chicken. The market is open

from morning until afternoon, but sometimes

they’re sold out, so it’s better go in the morning.

Another place to buy halal food is Talad

Krom Chon on Tiwanon Road. It’s a popular

market for the locals, so if you have a driver, he

should know where it is. Taxi drivers should also

be familiar with the market.

You will find most everything you need

there. At Talad Krom Chon, the vendors speak

very little English. Just point and ask how much

(tao-rai kha?). They’re pretty fair and they

welcome non-Thais.

Lea Palma

Tucked in the corner next to the Sayan Vet

Clinic outside Nichada’s main gate is a hidden

gem. If you should ever need a bike flat

repaired or minor maintenance, try Khun Suwit.

Henri Bulli and I visited the humble

gentleman recently. Although there was a

language barrier we were able to get across what

we needed to get done.

He charges 2 to 5 baht to pump up a tire, 20

baht to fix a punctured tire, but more if a new

tube is needed. He does not stock tubes but can

order one. A new motorcycle shop next to Que

Pasa restaurant stocks tubes. Khun Suwit is

open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Community News Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015

Community News & Opinions

We seem to have a bit of a

poop problem in Nichada.

Some people have

forgotten that it is your or your

help’s responsibility to pick up

after your pet.

Nichada’s pet policy is outlined very clearly

in your residence guide, which you were given

when you rented your home. In all public spaces

in Nichada it is your responsibility as a pet owner

to clean up after your pet.

As a walker of my own pets I know I would

really appreciate it if the pathways and sidewalks

were not minefields of poop bombs, and I am sure

many others would appreciate it too.

Please remember if you are fined for this

infraction the fines begin at 500 baht and go up to

2,000 baht for multiple offenses.

Let’s respect the beautiful community we

are a part of and clean up after our pets.

Barb Lewis

Traffic Safety Reminder:

Double check to avoid close calls

Neighborhood

Pet Watch:

Pick up a9er your pooch

I recently had the opportunity to bike ride

along Nichada’s main thoroughfare during the

ISB traffic jam.

A young child jumped out the back door

of a car into the bike lane with no regard for

bikes riding down the bike path.

I know it feels like you are at the curb and

can get out safely on the curbside, but bicyclists

are riding in that same path and will have a hard

time stopping quickly to avoid a collision.

Even if your child doesn't enter the bike

path when exiting a car, the car door opening

suddenly can scare a young rider.

Please pay special attention when

dropping your children off at ISB in the

morning. Remind them that a quick look over

their shoulder is needed!

Better yet…let’s all encourage our kids to

get out of the car and walk or bike!

Travel: Bhutan Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015

We loved Bhutan and would highly recommend a

trip there during your time in this region.

When to go: High seasons - Sept./Oct./Nov. and

March/April/May – both ISB breaks in October

and April would be good timing. We had 4 days to

tour, and that gave us lots of time to see the

attractions. You would need more time to trek.

Airlines: Bhutan Air was good - 2.5 hours to

Kolkata, India, 45 minutes on the tarmac, and 50

minutes to fly to Paro. Royal Bhutan Airlines is a

second option.

Getting around: Most people speak English so it

was easy to get what we wanted. We took some

US cash and used our debit card at “BOB” (Bank

of Bhutan) ATM. Not all ATMs worked.

Souvenirs are expensive, but there are some really

cool things!

Visas: All foreigners need a Bhutan travel agent to

help plan your trip. You must pay 225-250 US dol-

lars /per day/person. That will get you your visa,

driver, guide, transportation, some meals, and a

3-star hotel. We paid a premium to get 4-star

hotels. The first 65 US dollars go straight to the

government to pay for free health care and educa-

tion for the Bhutanese people.

The Bhutan government is

managing their tourism well

and the country is a delightful

mix of traditional and modern.

The country is beautiful, and

the people have a better

standard of living than in

neighbouring countries.

Bhutan is more expensive to

visit than other parts of Asia,

but well worth it. It is unique

and still fairly untouched by

mass tourism.

Bhutan Travel Agent: I

would highly recommend

Pema from Druk Family Tours.

Other Nichada families

recommended her to us, and

she advertises in Thani Talk. Pema was so friend-

ly and helpful, took care of everything, and let us

have a flexible itinerary. We got our own van,

driver, and guide. Some of the bigger companies

put people onto a bus; be sure to ask what kind of

transport you are getting. Our guide (Wangchuk)

and driver (Dorji) were also excellent.

Hotels: We stayed at the Druk Hotel in Thimphu

and Haven Resort in Paro (two nights in each.)

The Druk is really a 3.5-star hotel, but the rooms

were nice and the bathroom brand new. There was

lots of room for an extra bed for our son. The food

was good and the hotel was right on the town

square, making it easy to walk around.

There were other 4 to 5 star options just outside

the city. Haven Resort was a nice 4-star hotel with

a yummy Thai restaurant. They did have some

western breakfast items. Nice rooms, great views,

and the staff were great. The hotel was a bit of a

drive from the town, but we enjoyed staying there.

Activities: We spent our time between Paro

(airport) and Thimphu (capital). Both places were

nice and had lots to offer. We did a mix of things

each day – dzongs (fortresses), monasteries

(temples), museums, arts and crafts, shopping,

hiking, and seeing a giant 55 metre bronze

Buddha. THE iconic thing to do there is hike to

the Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). It was

absolutely stunning! Later that day we had a hot

stone bath in a rustic farmhouse. It was a very cool

and fun experience. There are also lots of options

for different treks, rock climbing, rafting, and

cycling.

Food: Very unique and usually spicy. They did

tone it down for me and I tried almost everything.

We did eat western breakfasts and had one western

dinner (yak burgers and fries – yum).

Whether you want laid back or high adventure,

Bhutan has it all. We thoroughly enjoyed the

mountains, the cooler weather, and the easy and

uncrowded traveling.

River Wine Restaurant

Atmospheric riverside dining in our own backyard

Restaurant Review Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015Thani Talk ~December 2015

Looking for a lively place to spend a

Saturday night? Looking for stylish décor, and an

attractive river-side location? Looking for good

food, a menu full of cocktails, and a large wine

selection? If so, you are in luck. Bangkok is full

of these places.

Looking to spend hours in traffic? No? Then

why not visit River Wine? It’s a great place in a

great location and even with usual Chaengwattana

traffic, it’s no more than 15 minutes from Nichada.

The first thing you’ll notice about the place

is how stylish it is. It is also huge. As you walk to

your table, you will notice several rooms for

private parties. There is seating by the river

(reservations recommended.) There is seating at

“sunken” tables. (It’s hard to describe, but it’s

quite cool).

When I went, I sat upstairs which was very

nice. With the cool breezes blowing off the river

(aided by fans which also keep the mosquitoes

away) it is actually pleasant to be outside. Also,

from up top you can enjoy the view, even at

nighttime.

The reflection of the lights on the river; the

boats slowly chugging past, and even a few stars.

It’s amazing how a place so close to home can feel

a world apart. It’s as if Bangkok’s Soi Thong Lor

has come to Pakkret.

The food menu contains a variety of Thai

and ‘western’ dishes, and there’s also a Japanese/

sushi menu. The only thing slightly out of the

ordinary was a long list of crab dishes, and there

are also a few dishes featuring ostrich, which you

don’t normally find in Thailand.

I ordered ostrich with black pepper (300

baht), cabbage with fish sauce (150 baht), roasted

pork topped with a spicy sauce (180 baht), Salmon

skin sushi roll (80 baht), and roll of salmon,

wrapped around rice, topped with roe (150 baht). I

would recommend the signature cocktail called

the River Wine Sabai Sabai.

All in all, the place, the atmosphere, the

service, food and drinks make River Wine a great

place to visit. The fact that it is so nearby makes

it outstanding. To get there you need only follow

Chaengwattana Road and head west. Continue

over the Rama IV bridge. At the first chance,

make a U-turn and head back towards the bridge.

Before getting on the bridge again, stay to the left.

The road will snake under the bridge. Turn left at

the first soi and follow the signs. You can’t miss

it.

Hours: 11am - 11pm.
