Preliminary ResultsThe first yearling sale of the year was held July

26-27 in San Antonio, Texas. The 2013 TQHA Yearling Sale recorded a 12% increase in average selling price to $10,326 compared to $9,084 last year, and the buy-back rate was a steady 28%. To-tal gross sales were down, but that was expected due to 21% fewer yearlings consigned to the sale, reflecting reduced foal crop numbers.

“We’re very pleased with the sale,” stated TQHA Executive Director Val Clark, accord-ing to StallioneSearch.com. “Not only was the average encouraging, but the overall feel and energy was good.”

The high seller at $76,000 was Hip#249, Six-es Down (Streakin Sixes-First Down Sixes, First Down Dash). Consigned by Jerry Windham, the bay colt was purchased by Tacho Cavazos, Jr. Sixes Down is a full brother to Dash For Cash-G1 winner Sixes Streak si 106 ($219,276) and is out of Grade 3 placed First Down Sixes si 99 ($24,957), a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Secret Courage si 95 (2013, $167,297).

The second-highest seller at $75,000 was Hip#28, an unnamed yearling colt by Tempting Dash and out of Passem Up Perry, by Mr Jess Perry. The colt, who was consigned by Granada Farms, Agent, and purchased by Jim and Pam Williams, is out of a half-sister to Grade 2 win-ner Southern Cash MAn si 102 ($157,590).

The highest selling filly at $42,000 was Hip#190, Miss Corleone (Carters Cartel-Clueless Bugaboo, Runaway Winner), consigned by HSC, Inc., Granada Farms, Inc., Agent, and purchased by HSC, Inc. & Partners. She is from the family of Champion Joanna Kate si 104 ($539,084).

The leading sire by yearlings sold was Mr Jess Perry with 6 horses sold for $222,000 and an average of $37,000. The leading sire by aveage was First Down Dash with 2 horses sold for an average of $86,000.
