DESCRIPTION

Presented by Jay Gary, Lane Jennings, Kate McCallum, and Alex McManus Whether it is Teihard de Chardin's "omega point," Barbara Marx Hubbard's "conscious evolution," Ken Wilber's "integral theory," Ziauddin Sardar's "Islamic science" or Pope Francis' exhortation to simplicity, the religious imagination continues to reframe our quest toward transformation and tomorrow. This panel will share how the spiritual quest for "terra nova" is expressed in their own futures work ranging from transmedia in Hollywood entertainment, to a "Voxtropolis" mashup in Motown with rap and social entrepreneurs, to a journal that ponders how the spirituality of science fiction is creating a post-terrestrial age.

It is the Year 2149

IT IS THE YEAR 2149. Overpopulation and pollution have overtaken our world. In search of a better tomorrow, scientists stumble upon a temporal rift, allowing for waves of human pilgrimages back in time to reshape the world anew, 85 million years ago on Earth.

Terra Nova means New Land • The dream to recreate our world

and reframe our quest toward tomorrow, however, has been alive for millennia across our globe.

• We are only now beginning to uncover its spiritual roots in the human past.

Gobekli Tepe

Archaeologists have unearthed the world’s oldest Temple, 10,000 B.C.

Page 10: Terra Nova: The Religious Quest for Tomorrow

It predated the Agriculture Age, the Wheel, and Domestication of animals

Gobekli Tepe

Page 11: Terra Nova: The Religious Quest for Tomorrow

Was Gobekli Tepe our 1st Futures Observatory?

• Created by nomadic Hunter-Gatherers, and continued for 25 generations.

• We may never know all what happened, but we can say at Gobekli Tepe our ancestors so stretched their horizons so to transform all their tomorrows.

• They went onto create the Neolithic Revolution to bring about permanent human settlements across the Fertile Crescent.

Page 12: Terra Nova: The Religious Quest for Tomorrow

Horizons of the Future • Immediate future (1 yr.) • Near-term future (1 - 5 yrs.) • Middle-range future (5 - 20 yrs.) • Long-range future (20 - 100 yrs.) • Distant future (100 - 1,000 yrs.) • Far-distant future (3 trillion yrs. out)

Page 13: Terra Nova: The Religious Quest for Tomorrow

Toward the Year 3000

Page 14: Terra Nova: The Religious Quest for Tomorrow

As we engage the 21st century…

• is the religious imagination for Terra Nova still strong enough to inspire us to create new worlds?

• Or has religion itself become so codified in declining empires and economies that it has lost its creative quest for Terra Nova and beyond?

“Creating a Better Future Through Arts & Media”

The c3: Center for Conscious Creativity, founded in 2004, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and education arts organization whose mission is to

support and catalyze the transformational power of arts, media and entertainment at a personal, social and global level.

The c3 fosters an ecosystem of positive change by bringing scientists, futurists and thought leaders

together with artists, storytellers, content creators and advanced media technologists in workshops, classes,

screening salons, think thanks, and an annual symposium. Resulting art and media projects benefit from c3's online community resources, grants, fiscal

sponsorship and partnerships such as The Millennium Project, a Global Futurist Think Tank. Projects are then showcased and disseminated by c3 and other arts and

media partners to influence lasting change on a personal, social and global scale.

c3 maintains offices and access to The Vortex Dome, a 50 foot immersive fulldome theater

at Los Angeles Center Studios

An experience that substantially alters a person’s “possibility space” or life path ● Discovering new facts, cultures, connections ● Epiphany, realization, revelation ● Spiritual, numinous, or “unity” experience ● Awakening to empathy, compassion, love ● Often triggered by new friends, social circles ● Trauma, loss, fear, etc. can also be transformative

Page 62: Terra Nova: The Religious Quest for Tomorrow

● Art can be seen as the evocation or transmission of unique neural states

● The performing artist’s instrument is the audience’s nervous systems

● The conscious artist must therefore be mindful of the audience’s experience

● The artist cannot easily evoke a state of consciousness that they themselves cannot maintain

● Therefore the artist’s prime directive is to: a. Attain unique/useful/entertaining moods or states of consciousness b. Consciously evoke these neural states in their audience through

their craft

Terra Nova as a spirituality

Terra Nova as a spirituality of the future can be defined as the concern of all who

feel drawn toward the fullness of humanity and, in tum, allow their lives to be

transformed by their relationship with the Absolute, however that may be defined.
