Parents are invited to attend the next Governing Council meeting on Thursday 30th October,

will be an opportunity for the school community to provide direct input about the school charges.

In lieu of attendance at the Council meeting, parents can express their views in writing to the

NEW PLAYGROUND Your child may have told you about the new roster for the “New” playground. Over the last 6 weeks of term 3, the number of students using the playground was closely monitored. The new roster will be trialled for this term, hopefully enabling more students to safely access the equipment.

WELCOME TO KPPS! We would like to welcome our new students and families to Kidman
Park Primary School. Welcome to Hanieh, Hedieh and Tara.
COMPETITION FOR THE RENAMING OF “NEW” PLAYGROUND
The “New” playground is no longer NEW (being built in 2010), so we
are having a competition to rename it. A naming slip
went home with the students today explaining the
process for the selection for the new name. Money
raised from the competition will go towards an
outdoors “Kindness Couch”.
DISABLED CARPARKS REMINDER: PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE DISABLED CAR PARKS UNLESS YOU HAVE A DISABILITY PERMIT ON DISPLAY.
These parks are for use by our families of students with disabilities only.
The City of Charles Sturt Parking inspectors regularly patrol the car park and do issue fines.

CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to Portia M, P1 who has won a prize in the Mayoral Make a Book competition, she will be presented with her prize on Thursday 30th October at the Event Cinemas, Arndale, by the Mayor of the City of Charles Sturt, Ms Kirsten Alexander.
Congratulations also to Taylah B, P2 who is the Josiah Mitton Prize recipient at KPPS.
The Josiah Mitton Prize is offered to the most outstanding or best "all round" student in all primary and high schools in the City of Charles Sturt.
Josiah Mitton was one of the first elected Councillors of the Corporation of the Town of Hindmarsh and its third Mayor (1878-1880). He participated actively in local affairs and in the Hindmarsh Institute Library, which was formed between 1852 and 1855. On his death a bequest of over 50 Pounds was presented to the library to set up a library scholarship for school children. The Josiah Mitton Prize was initially presented annually to a student from each school in the Hindmarsh area to perpetuate the memory of the Josiah Mitton
Scholarship to the Hindmarsh District Library and Mechanics Institute. When libraries became a free service the scholarship became irrelevant and an annual book prize was introduced and has been awarded annually by the City of Charles Sturt ever since.

こんにちはKonnichiwa,
Welcome to Term 4. We hope you enjoyed your holidays with your children. We are looking forward to another busy term in Japanese – so keep an eye on the newsletters for more information as the term passes. Here’s an overview of what Hiroko and I hope to cover in Japanese this term. Foundation students in Unit 4 and Unit 5 will continue their learning about Japan
and Japanese looking at basic geography, numbers, colours and introductions. They will use their new vocabulary in songs, games, reading and matching activities.
The Early Years students will be focussing on a Japanese folk
tale “Omusubi Kororin,” (The Rolling Riceballs), learning about the ways in which different cultures tell stories and developing the language needed to retell this tale in Japanese.
Students in the Primary Years will continue their focus on
extending their knowledge of the hiragana alphabet. Everyone has been working so hard to achieve their Hiragana Karate Belts it is very impressive.
Middle Years students will consolidate the Japanese they have
learnt over the past few years of Japanese in the form of a “Language Passport.” We will review lots of vocabulary (such as greetings, introductions, colours, numbers, time, weather) and create a learning tool to share this learning with others.
Seasonally we are focussing on Autumn (aki) in Japan, check out our corridor display of autumn leaves and haiku poems. And finally we hope to find out a little more about Japanese food and try some cooking for ourselves.
Please pop in and see us if you want to find out more about this term’s work, our Japanese programme, second language learning or your child’s progress. We look forward to meeting some of you during the term.

At the end of Term 3 the World of Maths Roadshow visited our school. The World of Maths Roadshow was an ideal opportunity for students to see how maths is applied to some real life situations. Students gained insight into problem solving, working in teams, and also various maths principles which are part of the Australian Curriculum. It was a highly engaging session which showed the students that Maths can be fun!

This term our class has been researching African and South
American countries. After taking notes and presenting
information in a pamphlet form we compared the countries
with New Zealand to see the similarities and differences
between these southern hemisphere countries.
One of the countries we studied was Peru. We made some
Peruvian beads out of air drying clay.
