Tell Them from Me Surveys

The Partners in Learning Parent Feedback Survey Research indicates that partnerships between home and school improve student learning outcomes. As a school we will run this survey each year to gain a better understanding of parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home, and parent/carer views on the school’s support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements for the future. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey will typically take fifteen minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey is open as of now through till Friday 21 October 2017. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated. The link to access the survey is: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/q773x There will be students asking parents to complete the survey before and after school for the next three weeks.

Anti-bullying Leadership Day

On Wednesday 6th September, student leaders in 6th grade from Milton Public School joined with Ulladulla Public School students at Ulladulla High School for an anti-bullying day run by the Student Representative council as part of their “Stand in my Shoes” anti-bullying initiative. The day started with some icebreaker activities so the students could get to know each other, and then continued with discussions, presentations and activities, run by the high school students, that focused on strategies to combat and deal with verbal, physical and cyber bullying. Goals of the schools “Stand in my Shoes Initiative” included crush the stereotypes, gossip the good stuff, close the cyber gate, and be an upstander. ‘The day was fun, educational and helpful’, says Holly. ‘It was interesting, exciting and all round awesome!’ says Brooke. All the MPS students represented their school very well on the day. Written by Holly and Brooke

Junior Performance Poetry

Competition

Thanks Amy, Joe, Ivy, Lucas and Emily for electing to represent Milton Public School at this year's Junior Poetry Competition. Thank you also to your families for their support in ensuring you were at St Mary's Star of the Sea at 2pm on Saturday. All five of you are to be truly commended for taking on such a challenge. How many of us would be able to stand alone and recite a poem from memory in front of an audience? Your performances were a credit to you and your talents. Well done Emily for achieving a Highly Commended and congratulations Lucas for winning the competition. Performing Arts is actively encouraged and nurtured at our school and we are immensely proud of our five recent representatives.

KidsFest@MPS

This year Milton Public School will host KidsFest on the first weekend of the school holidays (23rd and 24th of September). We are busy planning Art Trails and installations. All information regarding competitions can be found online and flyers are hanging in the foyer and the form for the Opening Paragraph and the Colouring Competition are on a desk to your right as you enter the foyer. Check out what is available and maybe book into a workshop, or two!

K-2 Sports Day

Last Friday Milton Public Infants students participated in the K-2 Sports Day on the school oval. It was a beautiful day and the weather was superb. When the students arrived they went into their house groups; Bass, Tasman, Flinders and Cook and marched over to the shelters beside the running track. Our Year 6 House and Vice Captains led each house with loud and enthusiastic war cries. The races started with the 8 year old 50 metre heats, semi-finals and finals, followed by the 7, 6 and finally the 5 year olds. The following children gained places in the finals and will receive their ribbons at the next K-6 assembly: 5 year boys: 1st Kobi, 2nd Jordan, 3rd Joey 5 year girls: 1st Matilda 2nd Elke, 3rd Eden 6 year boys: 1st Kyle, 2nd Cooper, 3rd Braxton 6 year girls: 1st Winnie, 2nd Meg, 3rd Ellie 7 year boys: 1st Max, 2nd Jett 3rd Finn 7 year girls: 1st Suvi, 2nd Renee, 3rd Willow 8 year boys: 1st Phoenix, 2nd Cobie, 3rd Koby 8 year girls: 1st Lucy, 2nd Kayley, 3rd Hazel Well done to every child who participated in the running races. A big effort was also put in by the pre-schoolers, parents and teachers in their race. After recess the children participated in some novelty events organised by Mr Tidburys’ Year 5 students including Jaffa and spoon races, skipping, parachute games, running relays, sack races, rob the nest, Frisbee, over and under, tug-o-war, quoits, obstacle course and stuck in the mud. Thanks Year 5 for your organisation and event running. The House with the most points from the whole day was COOK. Many thanks to the following: the children for their excellent behaviour, participation and cheering; the teachers as always for their time and effort setting up, performing particular roles and monitoring the novelty events; Year 5 and 6 students who helped run novelty events and led the house war cries; Monique, George and the canteen helpers for the sausage sizzle. All these people made the 2017 K-2 Sports Day a success and we thank you for your commitment to our great school.
