SMOKIES NEWS AND NOTES EXTRAS Making Contact: Ronald Torreyes has been the best player in the Southern League in terms of not striking out. The Smokies middle infielder strikes

out just once every 18.40 plate appearances, far and away the best in the league. Pensacola’s Brodie Greene is 2nd at 12.76.

Can’t Catch Him: When Arismendy Alcantara was caught stealing on 5/16/13, it broke a streak of 18 consecutive stolen bases dating all the way back

to 6/21/12. For his career, Alcantara has 93 stolen base attempts and has only been caught 18 times.

Hendricks Catching Fire: Starter Kyle Hendricks is 5-0 in his past five starts, dating back to 5/12/13 @ JXN. Hendricks has a 1.32 ERA (5 ER/34.1

IP) with 27 K’s and 6 BB’s. Also, in five starts at home, Hendricks 3-0 with a 0.27 ERA (1 ER/ 33.0 IP).

Lopez’s Hot Hitting: Lopez was 3-31 (.097) with 3 RBI in his first nine games of the season. In 28 games since then, Lopez has hit .309 (29-94) with

Smokies Banged Up: With first baseman Tim Torres (6/3) and starting pitcher Dalls Beeler (5/23) being placed on the disabled list, the Smokies now

have six players currently on the DL, the most in the Southern League. Those players are: Tim Torres (6/3-Forearm), Dallas Beeler (5/23-Hand),

Johermyn Chavez (5/9-Hand), Jae-Hoon Ha (5/7- Back), Justin Bour (4/21-Wrist), Dae-Eun Rhee (4/16-Shoulder). Four teams are tied for second with

four players on the DL. Those teams are: Mississippi, Jacksonville, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

Out of Control: The Smokies bullpen has walked 95 batters in just 174 innings this season (4.91 BB/9) while the starting rotation has allowed just 116 bases on balls in 325 innings (3.21 BB/9).
