Chaplains Corner: PURE HEART Have you ever wondered why it is that some prayers are answered and some are not? Why some minis-ters walk in the power of God and some just walk? Why is it that some Christians appear to have it all together and some just cant seem to get it right? Some have the plastic Jesus on the dash of their car with all the religious bumper stickers, still having wrecks, flat tires and break downs. Some of us Chris-tians use the bible as a good luck charm like a rabbits foot, but that wasnt too lucky for the rabbit! Could it be that God looks on the content of the heart? In the book of II Kings we read about Elisha was serving the prophet Elijah for many years and when it came time for Elijah to on to be with the Lord, Elisha asked for a double portion of the anointing. Because of his faithfulness (pure heart) to his man of God, he received double the power that Elijah had. Now that Elisha was the prophet of the land he too had a servant named Gehazi. The day came when a woman came to Elisha for help because her son lay dying, Elisha sent Gehazi with Elishas staff to lie upon the boy. Gehazi did as Elisha has re-quested but nothing happened the boy was still sick. Then Elisha came and healed the boy through the power of God, so why didnt Gehazi heal him through that same power, he had the same staff, he was sent by the man of God. Later on we read that Elisha had also healed a captain named Naaman of lep-rosy, and the captain want to give Elisha a lot of money but Elisha refused. Later on Gehazi went after the captain and told him that Elisha had changed his mind, so Gehazi received that money. When Elisha knew what Gehazi had done, Elisha pronounced that same leprosy on Gehazi. Gehazi had a chance at a double portion of the anointing but ended up with leprosy because of the content of his heart. Its like some Christians today that sit their family bible on the coffee table but never open it, go to church every Sunday but never apply it to their lives. You can talk like a Christian, look like a Christian, go to church and carry your bible every where you go, but if you dont have it in your heart your just a tinkling sym-bol and sounding brass. You just make a lot of noise but with no results. If you want Gods best then you must have a Pure Heart, not just on Sunday but every day of the week. If you work the word of God, then the word of God will work for you. So until next time, Keep your kickstand up and your face in the wind. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron Pastor Ron; Covenant Confirmers Ministries Inc. www.covenantconfirmers.org Founder of the Tennessee Biker Medical Clinic www.tennesseebikermedicalclinic.org Tennessee Confederation of Clubs State Chap-lain www.tenncoc.com Tennessee CMT/ABATE State Chaplain www.cmtabate.com

Legislative Resume I am Scott McColpin and I am a mem-ber of the TN Valley Charter. I have done lobbying over the last seven years with Wayne, Pierce and Mike Hays. I lobbied this past year with Brooklyn Tom after Mike Hays passed away. I am herby officially putting in my resume for Legislative Chair. Scott McColpin I worked this year lobbying with Scott and I believe he would do a good job as Legislative Chair I thereby recommend him for the posi-tion. Brooklyn Tom State Director.

Directors Cut Well the riding season is well under way. I have attended the swap meet in Nashville and the Liberty Rally as well as several charter meetings. I will be attending a photo opportunity to promote safety. I am glad to see that charters are attending each others events and working together. I have to tell you that it fills me with pride to see this. We after all are a community with distinctive customs, beliefs and code of behavior. These are all things that attracted me long ago and while they may not be as obvious today, they are still worthwhile to pass on. This is something us old school riders need to do. Our organization, I am happy to report, is doing well both in members and money but we still have a lot to do. We need to be better organized and improve communication. I have some ideas for this I will propose at the next BOD so why not attend the second Sunday in June. Our Helmet choice bill was put behind the budget and probably will die there. I as well as many of you are past tired of our issue being ignored by the house. How do we change this? There is only one way and that is we must pick some House races and help the people we like get elected and the ones we don't to retire. Our Issue is a hard sell and our cause is not for the lazy or the impatient. Freedom however is worth the time, struggle and effort to secure it. We need to build our organization to the point as we did in Florida where the house will HAVE TO LISTEN. We will not succeed by pussyfooting around or hop-ing those in power will see it our way. We need to lobby, lobby and lobby. We need to keep up the pres-sure and we need to show we will not quit or be defeated. Whether it takes one year or ten makes no dif-ference, in the end we will be FREE!!! Well I hope to see you at one of our events in the upcoming months. What can you do, talk about CMT/ABATE, sign up a member, support our events and have fun!!! Brooklyn Tom State Director

Letter To The Editor This is being written to thank the hard working Legislative Chairs we have had the opportunity to have in recent years. Our members, especially our newer members know about the helmet modification bill CMT/ABATE works on yearly. Published in our Newsletter Directors Cut of Feb. 2008, were the Federal initiatives that CMT/ABATE supported and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation took on and won. Unknown to many of our members are the accomplishments of our past CMT/ABATE Legislative Chairmen; Wayne Schaub, John Pierce and Mike Hayes. These hard working individuals accomplishments brought our organization great attention on the Hill. I am apologizing if I omit anything in the list below. In the year 2003 under Waynes wing CMT fought for the right to treat a traffic light that did not change to green for a motorcycle as a 4 way stop and proceed. The helmet bill had hope, but it was extended into the following year. In 2004, Wayne fought for a bill and won. It was a bill that allowed the use of DOT approved brake lights that flash before going steady red when applied. We got the May Awareness Proclamation. Sadly our helmet bill was defeated, but overall 2004 was a good year. 2005 brought the change of Chairmanship to John and it was a very busy and successful year. A bill that tried to overturn the flashing brake light was promptly stomped and never made committee. They tried again in 2006, and we had the same suc-cessful results. The kid bill that would not allow children 12 or younger ride was killed pre-committee and a proclamation that May was motorcycle safety awareness month was passed adding the word safety to the language. 16 members were invited onto the Senate floor during Legislative Day and re-ceived a standing ovation for the work. 2005 also was the year that handlebars more than 15 above the seat was fought for and won allowing ape hangers on motorcycles. A bill that punishes a driver that fails to stop at the scene of an accident with a felony was lobbied for and passed along with another bill that added points to a driver license that cannot be removed causing injury or death. Another was the Due Care Bill that amended TN Code to require all drivers that it is their responsibility to take care not to destroy, injure or kill while driving. It put the responsibility on the driver. Helmets: Since 2005 you can ride in a parade under 30 mph without a helmet. Another bill that passed was the bicycle helmet bill. TN is now the only state that allows the use of a bicycle helmet that has holes no larger than 1 ½ to be worn instead of a DOT approved helmet. Our helmet modification bill was passed by the Senate and made it to Finance Committee for 5 meetings only to be rolled into 2006 when they reconvened. In 2005 a bill was passed that, if you are eligible, you can now display one of over 20 military/memorial type licensee plates on your bike that only cars and trucks had before. Including the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor that are free of charge. Those tags became available to us this year. 2005 CMT/ABATE under John Pierce as our Legislative Chair won the only MRF State Legislative Award given out that year. It was a mighty year for our organization. In 2006 it was a bit quieter than the first year of Congress. Another May proclamation was approved and we started working on the helmet bill again with much discussion and testimony in committee. Although it was never killed by vote, it died in because the State Congress adjourned for the year. In 2007 Mike Hayes took over the Legislative Chair and again the Senate passed the helmet modification bill. Mike took us into committees only to see the helmet bill rolled to the following year 2008. For safety, wheelies are now prohibited warranting a reck-less driving citation. Lobbied for and won anew law gives a right of way violator a fine of $500 for killing and $250 for injuring another motorist along with loss of license. The May proclamation was once again swiftly approved and CMT/ABATE won one of 8 MRF achievement awards in 2007. Ours was for defeat-ing the under 12 Kid Bill once more.

Wheels of Thunder May 1, 2008 Director Bob Celmer called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited fol-lowed by a moment of silence for our fallen brothers and sisters. Treasurers Report Lynn reported we have $1070.92 in the bank. We will be sending $88.40 to the State for mon-ies accrued from the legislative poker run. Minutes A motion was made to dismiss the reading of last months minutes and to accept them as published in the newspaper and posted on the web site. The motion was seconded and approved. Minutes can be found on our web site, www.cmtabate-wheelsofthunder.com, under the meeting date. (Also known as Motion 1) Directors Statement Bob stated that he has 2 Mike Hays memorial patches left. They can be purchased for $5 if anyone would like to purchase one. $21,000 of the DOT grant which was allocated for Safety and Education was spent on bus signs and an extension has been granted to determine allocation for the remaining $14,000. Also, the safety and education position is open at the state level. There are several positions still open at the State level: They need our help! Please send resumes and volunteer if you can!! Legislative Scott McColpin is interim chair. Products, Treasurer, Safety and Ed, and Activities. The Newspaper editor could use some extra help too. Brooklyn Tom has prepared a 3 year strategic plan which Bob C. posted to our website. The 4 main areas are: 1. Financial: need a budget and a wish list. 2. Education: this is what we are really about. 3. Legislative: want to have a phone and email tree in place by December. So that we can determine coverage and contact people when we need them to contact their area legislative representatives. Also try to build membership where we do not have representation. 4. Membership/Public Relations/Newsletter: Would like to separate these into three separate positions by June BOD. Want to increase membership by 25%. Split Tennessee into 3 regions (East, Central, and West) and have areas work together to put on events and sup-port each other as well as the other areas. Discussion about making the Bash, Swap Meet and STR state events Email Bob if you are interested in reviewing the proposals in detail. Brooklyn Tom has put together some proposed By-Law updates which Bob C. posted to our website for your view-ing pleasure. Bylaws changes should be read at the next BOD (in June), taken back to charters for discussion and can be voted on at the September BOD. Activities-The Southern Thunder Rally will be held August 22-24. Papa gave the details about our legislative run. There were 18 people involved/participated in the run. Thank you to those of you who worked the stops and participated in the run. We had several members of the Wild Pigs come out and offer their support. Papa reminded the group that our Bash will be September 26 - 28, 2008. A sign up sheet went around for people to volunteer their help. We will continue to discuss at future meetings and will begin to schedule committee meetings in the near future. We will be selling advanced tickets. Malisa will update the flyer as we make decisions about activities. We also discussed other ideas for rides. Some ideas included: A Bug Run, Destination rides, participating in other groups poker runs, scavenger hunt, and bike night rides. The CMT/ABATE Liberty Rally will be held May 9-11 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Admission is $10 and camping is free. The flyer has been posted to our website. Also, the Motorcycle awareness day is May 10, 2008 from noon 3 pm at the Bicentennial Mall State Park in front of the Capitol in Nashville. This is the first one. There will be awareness booths. Membership software for voice outs to the members. This added to mass emailing would increase the likelihood that members would receive club information. Now that expenses are under control, the state budget seems to be improving and the need for/request for monthly pledges may become extinct. This months Letter- As always the letter is posted to the website so that you can edit and print your own or you are welcome to sign the one Bob C. brought to the meeting. This months letter is to Lamar Alexander In support of US S616 and US HR1076 - A bill to promote health care coverage parity for individuals participating in legal recreational activities or legal transportation activities. This deals with the HIPPA recreational technical act and includes ATVs, motorcycles, horseback riding, etc Legislation-There was discussion about blinking tail lights. Federal policy prevents manufacturers from installing them, but there is NO prohibition against an individual, shop, or dealership installing them. Blinking tail lights are legal! The rumor mill says that the sound level may be checked on motor cycles in the near future. New Business Steven Scheer brought to the table the idea of putting infor- mation about ABATE at different dealerships with cards for people to fill out for a one year free membership. This would help us collect contact info and maybe recruit some new members. There were mixed feelings about the idea, and no conclusion was reached. Membership We had 22 members and 1 guest present at tonights meeting. Two members renewed and one new person joined tonight. We sent around the membership list for members to proof and update contact info to ensure better communication. A motion was made to adjourn. It was seconded and approved Were outta here! It is 8:40PM
