    Temples - Sun Structures

An eagerly awaited debut by any sensible creature of the psychedelic universe, SunStructures meets the expectations created by the singles that preceded it. Like the tidalwave of neo-psychedelic bands of the last couple of years that adds somethingcontemporary to the multi-coloured cosmos of 1967, Temples emphasize the coordinates ofthe psychedelic now despite the apparent origins of their aesthetics traced in BarrettsFloydian summers (feel the astral projection of Interstellar Overdrive in Sun Structures),the psychedelic pop of the Beatles (theres an obvious reference to Tomorrow NeverKnows in Shelter Song), the Odessey And Oracle -era Zombies (The Guesser), the Kinksat their most dreamy disposition (The Golden Throne), Tomorrow and the whole LSD -pop

scene of 1967- 68s London (this hovers over the entirety of the album), with a hint of MarcBolan of his 7 0s output (Keep In The Dark). All this with the childlike simplicity and naivety

of Donovans psychedelic folk (Fragments Light) combined with the eternal escape trip ofthe genre (Colours To Life/A Question Isn t Answered) as well as something in theproduction and the style that reveals a distant relation to modern equivalents of the likes ofTame Impala (Mesmerise). Everything sounds British though, the heavier, bluesy legacy ofthe American side almost non-existent, in favour of a more ethereal sort of pop that focuseson the structrure of classic songwriting rather than the improvisational practicing of theendless guitar soloing of West Coast remnants. Sun Structures is a must for psychedelicmusic fans, but it would certainly be appreciated by more open-minded music lovers ofdifferent genres due to the groups ability to create beautiful melodic lines adorned withexcellent harmonic vocals, wrapping up the lot with compact rhythmic dynamics andmodern production ideas that travel back and forth in time avoiding the ususal clichs.Temples, almost never departing from the psychedelic world they have chosen to serve, have already made this writer a disciple.
