1 GeneralMELSEC PLC has been developed and maintained by Mitsubishi Electric Corp. MELSEC PLC can treat many kinds of CPU types and connection types. Refer to Mitsubishi Electric Corp. website for more detailed information.

FAST/TOOLS have provided to communicate with MELSEC PLC from R9.03 as one of EQUIPMENT/FAST options (Model: EQP-S11-MEL).

You must require to setup MELSEC PLC network configuration. For example, IP address and related configurations are required for MELSEC CPU unit or Ethernet unit. Such MELSEC PLC configuration must be required to refer to User’s manual of MELSEC PLC and/or MELSEC Engineering Tools, GX Developer, GX Works etc., even some information is written in this document.

3. Configuration in FAST/TOOLS MELSEC equipment

This section shows the procedure to communicate with MELSEC, especially the configurations in FAST/TOOLS.

The basic procedure is following.

1. FAST/TOOLS installation with EQPMEL patch (R10.02)

2. Apply FAST/TOOLS license

3. Setup MELSEC PLC configuration

4. Configuration of MELSEC equipment

3.1 FAST/TOOLS installation with EQPMEL patch (R10.02)

After standard FAST/TOOLS R10.02 installation, you must apply an EQPMEL patch for correct EZSocket installation on later Windows OS environment. This patch is provided for R10.02 and R10.02 SP1 environment. Please contact GSC at [email protected] for requesting the patch. In case you need to connect with MELSEC on R10.01 or earlier versions, also please contact GSC at [email protected].

3.2 Apply FAST/TOOLS licenseMELSEC communication with FAST/TOOLS is provided as one of FAST/TOOLS option licenses (EQP-S11-MEL). So you need a specific license for FAST/TOOLS MELSEC equipment configuration and runtime work. Once you apply a correct license to FAST/TOOLS, you can see “MELSEC” folder in the tree of Engineering Module. (Engineering Module -> I/O Process -> Equipment -> MELSEC)

3.3 Setup MELSEC PLC configurationBefore connecting FAST/TOOLS with MELSEC PLC, some parameters of MELSEC network needs to be configured by MELSEC configuration tool, GX Works, GX Developer etc. Refer to each User manual for required setup parameters

3.4 Configuration of MELSEC equipmentIn principle, configuration method of MELSEC equipment in FAST/TOOLS is similar to the other equipment, such as to configure Scan types, Lines, Stations and Points. This section describes Lines and Stations especially, because these include some parameters of MELSEC specific configurations.

3.4.1 LinesFor “Line” definition, it’s almost same as the other equipment. Only the point you need to care is the case of “Redundant lines”.Tab [General]

Appendix B. General procedure of MELSEC setup

Here shows one of general procedures for MELSEC PLC configuration by MELSEC tool.1. Install MELSEC Engineering Tool.

2. Setup MELSEC hardware and set power ON.

3. Connect between PC and MELSEC PLC by USB cable.

4. Read current setup parameters in PLC.

5. Write the parameters to PLC.

6. Set PLC power OFF and Power ON.

Setting up of MELSEC PLC is finished.

Step 1: Install MELSEC Engineering Tool.To setup MELSEC CPU and related parameters, you need to install MELSEC Engineering Tool(s). You can get some MELSEC related tools for this purpose, like GX Developer8, GX Works2 or GX Workd3 etc. Which tool you should use is related to what environment you need to configure. Refer MELSEC User’s manual for each tool for detail. Here uses GX Works2 in this Appendix.

Step 2: Setup MELSEC hardware and set power ON.In case you want to set up a MELSEC Qn-series CPU, you need the following unit is required: base, power, CPU. If your target CPU doesn’t have Ethernet port, Ethernet unit is needed additionally. Attach power, CPU and other I/O units on a base unit and set power ON. More detailed information should be referred to a MELSEC User’s manual.

Step 3: Connect between PC and MELSEC PLC by USB cable. When you install Engineering Tool, USB interface drivers are also installed in most of cases, because most of MELSEC CPU has USB interface to configure MELSEC PLC and I/O units.

Step 4: Read current setup parameters in PLC.Start installed MELSEC Engineering Tool and read current setup parameters.

FA0B0001E.ai

To read parameters, the following popup is opened. Here you need to choose your current connection environment. In case of direct USB connection, it’s configured as default. In other cases, set your environment. How to set this popup should be referred to a MELSEC Engineering Tool User’s manual.

FA0B0002E.ai
