Other aspects of the event included the presentation of Allweiler’s latest cutting-edge technologies such as the ALLMIND monitoring technology, the ALLTRIM antiheeling concept, the innovative OPTILINE Magnet Coupled pumps and the high-efficiency MI-D 350-250 double suction & double volute sea-water cooling pump. The combination of the above presented information with the input provided by Technava presenter, Petros Kavouris, who highlighted the benefits and advantages of the IMO & Allweiler pumps, once again stressed out the reliability of the products and services as well as the fact that IMO & Allweiler are solid and well appreciated brand names worldwide, but also among the Greek owners and end-users, covering every need in the field of fluids transfer.

Colfax Group (IMO & Allweiler) & Technava S.A. organized a technical forum on the “ Developments on Centrifugal & Screw Spindle Pumps– Advances on Energy Efficient & Environment Friendly Designs” at the Athens Ledra Marriott Hotel, on Thursday 3rd November 2011. A vast number of approx 250 participants honored us with their presence including key players of the Greek market, owners, technical managers, NB managers, decision makers from first class shipping companies.

Our company TECHNAVA S.A. among our wide range of activities and services rendered, is now officially appointed to represent IMO AB pumps for the Aftermarket products in the marine market.

The forum addressed mainly the benefits of using COLFAX group pumps and their impact on the reduction of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). More specifically, the presentations focused on pumps’ operating cost where relevant studies have proven that Allweiler efficient, high-quality, low-maintenance equipment is more economical from competitors’ products, leading thus to the main topic of the event which was the reduction of TCO as a result of the aforementioned characteristics.

BES&T is the longest active independent commissioning services provider for Power Plants and Petrochemicals in the United States. For over 17 years provides expertise and experience to help achieve service goals on time, on budget and in-line with the project requirements.

SigmaCommissioning™ consists of three distinct procedures: Froth Flushing, Sigma Clean and Sigma Blow.

- Froth Flushing™ is a high-energy technique applied to piping systems to remove loose mechanical debris and loosely ad-herent welding slag and corrosion deposits from the pipe surfaces. Froth flushing is performed by generating a slug of water that has a large number of air bubbles mixed into it. This frothed slug is displaced through the piping system at velocities of 40 to 80 feet per second.

- Sigma Clean™ utilizes the plant Boiler Feed Water (BFW) pumps to circulate the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) with an ammonia based alkaline solution containing a reducing agent. The temporary piping applied for this process allows the BFW pumps to circulate feedwater to both the High Pressure and Intermediate Pressure HRSG at flows, up to the plant maximum rated capacity, providing both an effective degreasing action as well as a passivation environment of the HRSG metal surfaces.

- Sigma Blow™ is used to accelerate the commissioning of combined cycle power plants. This technology allows the Gas Turbine (GT) to be operated up to base load firing conditions as the steam cycle and Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) are flushed of all particulate and non-particulate contamination.

SigmaCommissioning™ process over traditional steam blow procedures offers the following benefits: - Reduced fuel usage/cost during steam blow - the quality of condensate that returns from the ACC improves to the extent that most can be recycled to the HRSG’s w/minimal treatment. - Reduced fuel cost during plant performance run - formulated chemicals is added to exhaust steam to enhance the removal of silica from the ACC metal surfaces avoiding extended operation in bypass mode. - Reduced schedule - less time for performance, restoration and clean up of chemistry can reduce schedule by 10-14 days. - Reduced temporary water cost - little if any temporary treatment equipment from vendors is required. - Reduced GT starts – can be completed with as few as three gas turbine starts.

So far in Greece the method has been used successfully for the commissioning of TERNA’s HERON II plant. Currently is used for METKA built Korinthos Power S.A. new power plant, for commissioning of condensate steam pipes at the Alumina plant of Aluminium of Greece and also is candidate for commissioning of the hydrocarbon compressor suction lines at the new refinery of Hellenic Petroleum.

Real world examples prove that SigmaCommissioning™ can save up to €2M and 15 days of schedule!

Ariston A/S - Tank level gauging systems

By Alexis Chronopoulos

Ariston Norway AS specializes in the developing and manufacturing of technologically advanced automatic level gauging multipurpose tank monitoring systems. The focus in Ariston Norway AS is on the quality and performance - providing tailor-made system solutions to long-term warranty periods and excellent after sales support worldwide. Recent requirements by Oil Majors suggest need for retrofitting:

- tank pressure monitoring system - line/manifold pressure monitoring system

Predominantly this mainly applies to tankers which have been built until year 2003. Existing tank level gauging systems - especially of older tonnage, may be quite expensive to upgrade.

ARISTON AS, one of the leading tank level gauging manufacturers world-wide, proposes the complete retrofit of the existing system – at a most competitive total price. The ARISTON system can SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the time for the retrofit required - quickly achieving the majors’ requirements. Our system may be installed on an empty voyage, by crew, which means that dry-dock for the ship will not be needed, and this is SERIOUS cost saving! More details of the system in question, please visit our Principals Ariston A/S Norway : http://ariston.no/page/22958/
