No parent wants to see their child struggle with disappointment.

www.SharonBallantine.com

We may find ourselves wishing we had some

way to shield our children from rejection,

hurt and hardship.

www.SharonBallantine.com

Not only is that impossible, it can

also be unhealthy.

www.SharonBallantine.com

Rather than trying to protect your children from disappointment, you

can show them how to use their disappointment to achieve success.

www.SharonBallantine.com

Disappointment can be used as a tool for helping your children determine

and achieve what they want.

Disappointment comes in many forms. Maybe your daughter didn’t get the role in

the school play that she had her heart set on. or your son didn’t make the varsity sports

team he was trying out for.

Disappointment is part of life, but that doesn’t make it easy to deal with. Children

feel losses deeply. Rather than trying to glaze over them or minimize them, give your child the space to reconcile their

feelings and mourn.

We all process disappointment differently. Your child may only

need a few minutes to work through their pain before moving on, or it

might take longer.

Check in with your Internal Guidance System (IGS) to evaluate what feels appropriate in the given situation.

Once you are clear that they are ready to move on, you can help your child to

check in with their own IGS to transform their experience.

Your child can leverage their disappointment and use it to guide them

toward another more positive and empowering perspective.

www.SharonBallantine.com

Help your child to explore the feelings and experiences that they were hoping to gain

from achieving their goal. Encourage them to connect deeply with the feelings that they

imagined experiencing.

www.SharonBallantine.com

Once they are able to pin down what they were hoping to experience, they can engage their IGS to explore other ways of achieving

their desired feelings

www.SharonBallantine.com

If for example, the goal was to experience being part of a team

or a greater community of peers, perhaps they can find

another way to achieve that goal by creating another opportunity to have that experience. Maybe

they can be a supporting member of a team or create a

new group entirely.

Once their energy is shifted from disappointment toward something more proactive, from negative to

positive, they will begin to create the space for a the positive experience to

manifest.

www.SharonBallantine.com

With disappointment comes a myriad of negative emotions. By sitting with these

emotions and tuning into their IGS, your children can transform the energy of disappointment and fine tune their

true goals toward what they really want.

www.SharonBallantine.com

By supporting your child through their disappointing times and helping them to

tune into their IGS you are literally helping them transform their disappointments into

success!
