Volume 44 Issue 37 Kawerongo Newsletter 05 Hakihea 2018

It’s time to say all the thank-you’s for 2018, and the first goes to all our tamariki, our students, who

gave their best, grew in stature, confidence and learning. This is not about high academic

achievement, which of course we celebrate, but to those who dug in, heads down and grew,

who spread goodness, gave kindness and learned to recognise the needs of others.

THANK YOU to all the TEACHERS from nursery to class 12 who are so committed to getting it right

for our children and young people, thanks to you PARENTS who support our education, who

have your kids at school ready, eager and on time (mostly). The trinity of home, school and child

is a must for well-being and an anxiety free development. Extra thanks to the teachers and

parents who helped create something extra in the year – class plays, camps, outings, fundraising,

FAIR, raffles, end of year events, festivals, concerts, engagement with Christchurch events – and

there are so many more. Thanks to our Teacher Aides who have helped support some special

changes for our precious ones, to the office people who keep the school running, the support

staff who keep us warm, look after the buildings, the library, keep the whole place clean and

tidy, to the Proprietors, who look after our special character, the reason we are here – our Steiner

education, to the Board who meet monthly to ensure we in management are on track

supporting all that needs to be in place, and to my colleagues in the CPG who help manage the

school. There are SO MANY THINGS TO CELEBRATE, and while it’s now nationally recognised how

hard teachers work, I think our teachers need to take an extra bow.

KEI TE PAI KOUTOU! HAPPY 2018!

minute summation of their years’ work and the final presentation of their schooling years.

as a parent! We were in negotiation about class 1 and so now are advertising with the closing

the scheduled new class 1 meeting on Wednesday – yep, we are confident we’ll have the best.

Our dear Sam Wakelin has been head hunted by Ellesmere College for a full time job- which he

couldn’t ignore - and so we are also advertising for a Classics and Social Studies teacher. Please

put out feelers to your Classics friends and their social media networks! Applications close on the

last day of school - December 14. Big thanks to you too Sam for your year with us! A big welcome

to Jenny Cameron, who will be teaching in the kindergarten. Ellen is away for another year. We

look forward to her return in 2020!

SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES MOBILE PHONE APPEAL Each year at least 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in our oceans,

the equivalent of a full garbage truck every minute. With “Beat Plastic Pollution” as the theme for this year’s World Environment

day we ask for your support by dropping any unwanted mobile phones you may have into the collection box located at reception. Phones collected help raise funds for Sustainable Coastlines – a multi award winning NZ charity run by a small team of hard working staff and volunteers. Their

mission is to inspire, educate and enable others to look after the natural places we love – our beaches and waterways. Our school also benefits by

gaining valuable rewards from the mobile phones we collect.
