GAO Federal student loans:
(GAO. Federal Student Loans(nd) : n pag.Web 20 Mar, 2013.)
This paper goes through starting off with the congressional committees research about the
total price of attendance which is what a typical student would pay for tuition and required
fees, books and supplies, room and board, and other personal expenses and net price after
grants- the total of attendance minus all grant aid received by a typical student. This is seeing
the rest of the average of tuition due. This is where the loans come in, for most students who
cant afford all of the expenses.
The author bases his article on facts. The author backs his argument up that money is not
excuse because there is federal loans to apply for. He explained his points with using statics and
charts and tables. Such as show tuition and fees, Total Net price after grants, enrollment in
degree-granting institution of higher education for full and part-time students, the eligibility for
loans and how much they are allowed to loan. The author explains how easy it is to get loans.
(He talks about how many people get the loans they apply for and how they stay in college.
Most students only need the most loans for first and second year. Since usually they can afford
more.****move section up)

This article relates to my topic that money is not an excuse. This article covers federal
student loans and which is a major point in my paper. Federal loans are one way to afford
college when there is no other way to afford it. This raises many ideas in my head. Like why
dont people use this as an option? (Reading this article, the author is more fact based so I
really cant disagree with the writer. The author talks about the statics and facts of federal
student loans. Such as, Subsequent increase began; undergraduate students in all class
levels could borrow an additional $2,000 in unsubsidized or combined loans per year. How
even thou tuition went up so did the available money able to get for loans. ***Analysis)Why do
so many people use this as an excuse? Federal loans are very easy to get and very easy to
research.( This article also talks about people taking the time to make the effect usually are the
most successful. Students borrowing the loan limits generally attend a public 4-year
institution, and stays enrolled in school full-time, and were dependent students.
Predicting success in college:
The Importance of placement Tests and High school transcripts
Benfield, Clive, and Peter Crosta. CCRC. Predicting success in college: The importance of
placement tests and high school transcripts(2012): n pag.Web. 20 Mar, 2013.
The main point of this article is how placement tests and you high school transcript
which includes GPA, are critical to help shape your path way for college. The author supports

the importance of these two points. Mostly because it helps see if your even cut out to go to
college and or if you can get to college. The article starts off talking about the frame work of
telling if you are really meant for college. The framework section first talked about placement
test and then GPA, implies that the harder you work the higher you did on both of these the
most likely youll get into your college and could get scholarships. This argument leading to that
youll get money from the scholarships and this leading to the big picture argument that money
is not an excuse.
This article relates to my topic that money is not an excuse. This article covers How GPA
affects you getting into college along with get scholarships for college and which is a major
point in my paper. This article is all fact based. GPA is one way to help get into college and
gives you more scholarships that you can apply for. Which helps you can afford, when you cant
afford other colleges. This raises many ideas in my head. There are so many graphs in this
article that show how students GPA get them into college. They also talk about placement test,
the author saysPlacementtest are beneficial depending on how they are used. I agree and
disagree with the author here. Because like he says High school transcript is an
alternative to placement tests for deciding whether students should enroll in upper level
education. Because I believe you need both GPA and SAT/ACT to help get you into college
and get scholarships. It also helps decide whether each student is ready for college level
coursework.

The main point of this webpage is to list all the college in North Carolina and which city
they are located in. It list the minimum and maximum tuition you would have to pay to go to
that school, in-state and out-of-state tuition also giving you the number of student that go
there and the website address so you can go visit and get more information from. It list in-state
and out-of-state cost. The author does not really have a voice in this paper since it is straight
fact based. But this article does prove that there are some cheap colleges out there.
This article relates to my topic that money is not an excuse. This article covers Tuition of
college in North Carolina and which is a major point in my paper. This webpage is all fact based.
Tuition is one way to help find a college you can afford, when you cant afford other colleges.
This raises many ideas in my head. A big factor in deciding what schools you want to go to is,
can you afford it? Can you afford it by yourself, with student loans, and or scholarships? If you
can only afford only $1,500, then there are 65 colleges in North Carolina that are less than that
amount. For example, if you lived here in charlotte you could go to Central Piedmont
Community College it is one $1,524.00 for in state for a year. But there are even 7 colleges
that are under $1,100. Such as, Randolph Community College is only $1,072 for a year in-
state. Why do people say that college is too expensive when 1,000 dollars is very easy to get in
scholarships it you work hard in high school? So why dont people take the time to fill out
scholarships or eat out a little less?

United States. Office of Vocational and Adult Education., ed. Federal Adult Education Programs
for the 21st Century Report to the President on Executive Order 13445. D.C: n.p., 2008.
Print.
The main point of the bookBridges to Opportunity Federal Adult Education Programs
For the 21st Century istalking about the importance of college in this competitive market. It
talks all about the different work forces and how its nearly impossible to get a job with out a
college degree.
The books argument is that college is important because of you can get a job to make a
living without a college degree now days. He backs up his research with statics of increasing
opportunities offered and the decreasing amount of people taking the offer.
This source is very helpful, talking about how it is important to go to college and how you cant
even get a job without a good degree. The list statics that will really help my paper about people
who grab ahold of the opportunities offered to the to be able to afford going to college. This
leaves me with questions such as how do people in high school get jobs? Why do people think
its not important to go to college? The book completely agrees with my views on that money
isnt an excuse. Tying perfect in with my inquiry topic.
Quotes:
1)College access is not just about access for high school students. Its about access for adult
learners.
2)Americas economic competitiveness relies increasingly on an educated workforce. Twenty-
four of the 30 fastest-growing jobs require postsecondary education or training. Yet 60

percent of Americans have no postsecondary credentials at all, and less than one-third of
Americans have bachelors degrees. Even among college graduates, the percentage
proficient in prose literacy has actually decreased from 40 percent to 31 percent in the past
decade. Newly released data indicate that the number of high school graduates will peak
this year and then will slowly decline until 2015. This means that employers can no longer
meet their future workforce needs by relying solely on young people taking the traditional
route through high school and college
3)Our competitiveness as a nation depends on an educated workforce. We must give adults the
skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the job market.
4)America must ensure that our citizens have access to high quality and affordable educational,
learning, and training opportunities throughout their lives. We recommend the development of a
national strategy for lifelong learning that helps all citizens understand the importance of
preparing for and participating in higher education throughout their lives.
5)We have seen adult education programs improve their performance and outcomes by setting
ambitious goals, managing more effectively and efficiently, and achieving results.

The main points of the article The Importance of College Education, were to talk about
the opportunities giving to go to the college and the opportunities you get after going to college.
It talks about local, federal, merit-based, and corporate options. It also talks about the
understanding the importance of college education.
The articles argument is that they are many opportunities to go to college even thou the
tuition are rising. Describing all the reason that college is so important. If you work hard, you
can get into college since there is are a bunch of rising opportunities.
This is probably the most helpful articles. It raises many ideas for me. It lists more ways
to afford college that I didnt even think about. Im completely agreed with the article, there are
some many ways to afford college now days. This article answers more questions I could even
ask and it will very helpful for my inquiry paper.
Quotes:
1.) Why is it important to go to college? The answer is that, more than ever, attending college
provides opportunities for graduates which are not as widespread to those who have not received
a higher education.
2.) When students experience a post-secondary education, they have the opportunity to read
books and listen to the lectures of top experts in their fields.
3.) One important answer to this question is more opportunity. As opposed to generations of the
past, high school graduates today are unable to obtain the number of high-paying jobs that were
once available. The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing-based economy to an

economy based on knowledge, and the importance of a college education today can be compared
to that of a high school education forty years ago. It serves as the gateway to better options and
more opportunity.
4.) Although the colleges and universities of today carry a heavy price tag, it is of great
importance not to let that discourage you from obtaining a college education. While the cost of
tuition continues to rise, so too does the number of available financial aid options. Below we will
explain why it is important to explore these options before you go to college and the large payoff
they often provide.
5.) Local optionsThe people of your own community fully understand the importance of a
college education, which is why organizations such as the American Legion, the Rotary Club,
the Jaycees, and Boosters chapters offer scholarships for high school students in the area. These
organizations are often overlooked and serve as a great resource due to the fact that they have far
less competition than national awards. Start your local search by visiting your high schools
career options to see whats available.
6.) Federal optionsThe federal government is also well aware of the importance of a college
education, which is why they award more financial aid to college-bound students than any other
resource. The most important step in obtaining federal aid is to fill out the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Follow this link for more information on filing the FAFSA for
financial aid.
7.) Merit-based optionsMerit scholarships are awarded to students based on academic or
athletic abilities, as well as categories such as ethnicity, religious affiliation, club membership,

interests, talent or career plans. Learn more about merit-based options by following this
link: College Scholarship Money
8.) Corporate optionsCorporations are another resource who understand the vast importance
of a college education. Every year, corporations ranging from Target to Coca-Cola offer
financial aid to thousands of college-bound students. A great way to start your corporate
scholarship search is with you or your spouses company. Often times, organizations will award
the children of employees with scholarships or grants. Follow this link to learn more
about college financial aid and grant searches and determine the eligibility of your student.
9.) The global economy is becoming increasingly more competitive, and in order to give yourself
the best chance for a well-paying job, you must first understand the importance of college
education. Attending college provides students with the knowledge and experience they are
unable to receive from a secondary education, and finding a way to fund a higher education now
can pay off in a huge way in the years to come.
